Many people are fascinated by gangsters, how else to explain the popularity of movies and TV shows centred around them. Never mind that they are simply heartless people than exploit human vulnerabilities, especially in regard to addictions of all kinds. But the idea of "living large" without regard to how it is funded, or who gets hurt, appeals to a lot of people,

The irony of drugs these days, is that the crims are actually in competition with the govt, on the same side of the trade. I speak of tobacco, where extortionate govt taxes have encouraged organized crime to join the feeding frenzy. The crims care as much about the addicts as the govt.

Tobacco has become a poverty trap, among its other ills. Oddly, it has been illegal since 1908, to grow your own.

Without great detail AA .     . Remember Roger Rogerson is only one member of an army of senior Police , Politician and members of the judiciary ,   Who are as bent as you could imagine and this group have virtually run the Country for generations.
Cast your mind to the Trimbole Crime gangs of Griffith.   Where any opposition was simply murdered .    . Do you think things have changed.
NSW is run by the very man & his tentacles , who haven't had good publicity of late but rest assured , they will walk.
They have before numerous times.     Judges giving a bond for a bashing death that started off as murder. ( can you believe )
Google up John Ibrahim charged with murder.
"       "    Brothers win Murder appeals
The millions found concealed in their houses= proceeds of crime
It is never ending .   Even the Wood Royal Commission named them over 20 years ago .    Has it changed .. NO   No = The drugs , tobacco and whatever continue to flow .   The guns are still being fired .. Opposition simply disappear.
Anyone note who the friends of people like Sanderling , Haynes etc are.   . The MOb are in everything
So humerous --- especially the slogan ...   REDUCE CRIME = deport   some POLICE , Judges & Politicians.
One reason they succeed is .... WE, the Public , don't care about the Ibrahims and Meijars

The politicians, and public generally, don't care if crims catch and kill their own. The unwritten code is, and was, that a blind eye can be turned, unless innocent people get in the firing line. People who buy drugs and suffer harm, are not seen as in the "innocent" group. I was talking to a bloke the other day that told me that when he was walking upstairs into an illegal casino in Brisbane in the 80's, he was passed by Russ Hinze and a well-known Rugby League referee, coming down the steps. No-one really cared if you got fleeced in an illegal casino, it was only an unusual constellation of events that saw the Fitzgerald Inquiry established, but in the end it mainly exposed activity there was no real public will to have stopped. The wider public saw it as mainly victimless crime, that if you suffered by it, it was through your own consent.

Incidentally, when a punter suffered heavy losses in that illegal casino, he would be offered the consolation of the company of good-time girls, downstairs, free of charge. I doubt that happens at the legal casinos.

These groups control everything.     Half of their employees are X NZ & Islanders who are licenced Security Guards by day and deadly bouncers by night.
Bouncer is protecting the territory.    Any intruder selling drugs in the Cross is a dead man .       . That was the line Ibrahim & Townsend
( the White Rhino ) used to have a judge let them off when the unfortunate died after the hiding they gave him .   The Judges words were " he understood them being angry when approached to buy drugs "
John Ibrahim got off and Townsend got a good behaviour bond . Google .
Who are they fooling.

Old Roger Rogerson could do society a favour and write his memoirs, kept in a safe till he dies. It would not be safe to name people still around.

Roger Rogerson maybe the best known as he killed so many and was even decorated for it.    Neddy Smith got involved over the lanfranchi killing and eventually killed the girl friend as she was talking too much.
John Laycock took over the case and Neddy got life .
Later John became Deputy Commissioner but retired when his son Sergeant Christopher got busted for worse behaviour than Rogerson at the time after 20 years of service .
Hard to find an honest one .
Took them over 10 years to sentence him ( probably ) rolled over.
Finished up getting only 7.5 years in 2012.    Be out by now I expect.

Depends what you mean by serious crims. Anyone the victim of a serious crime, has been offended against by a "serious" crim. Crime czars don't typically offend against ordinary citizens, so many aren't that concerned by them.

Pretty simple really, George Freeman, e.g., was able to flourish because innocent members of the public had nothing to fear, upstarts wanting to muscle in on his turf did. The public don't care about such crime, which meant the politicians weren't under pressure to act, and they could join the party by getting a cut.

Yes, I do care actually.  But when you read the front pages about them they tend to make them out to be heros, or special, or something, when really they are low life creeps who have come by everything they have illegally .  Poor old Mum in her fibro in Guildford,,,bred up a crop of crooks.

AA...   Mum had a mansion in town in Turnbull country and rejected it so they spent a squillion on the old block at Merrylands.
She , her daughter and a brother had many Millions in cash stashed in the walls and ceilings in their houses ..   No explanation so lost it as proceeds of crime.
I could never understand ...   the Tax Dept can't divulge criminal activity provided they declare and pay tax on it.
That's how many of them die filthy rich and all is OK .
