Connections of Master Fencer have left the horse in the USA and indicated that he would next run in the GI Belmont Invitational Derby over 1 1/4 miles on the Turf. The race is scheduled for July 6, 2019. It is now part of the newly formed Turf Trinity series inaugurated by NYRA this year.

G3 Ohio Derby was won by Owendale (3/5 fav) by one length over Math Wizard with Long Range Toddy a long way away (9 1/4 lengths).

Owendale continues his impressive form after winning the G3 Lexington Stakes and finishing a fast closing 3rd in G1 Preakness.

Racing concludes today at Santa Anita Park with the G3 San Juan Capistrano Stakes over abt 1 3/4 miles on the turf. The race has lost much of its prestige over the last few years as the East Coast turf races especially at Belmont Park have pumped up the purses and have attracted the long distance turf runners from Europe.

Southern California racing will switch for a short 10 day meet to Los Alamitos (no turf racing) before heading south to DelMar which will also have turf racing.

Last year's 2YO champion Game Winner, who last started in the G1 Kentucky Derby finishing 5th, won his first race of the season in four horse GIII Los Alamitos Derby starting at 1/20on on winning like that by 6 lengths.

Nice little trial for Baffert who will now consider the G1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga in late August as a must.

This weekend most of the eastern half of the US will be feeling the effects of excessive heat as many records will fall.

Given this racetrack administrators have moved quick to cancel race meetings.

The list this far is for Saturday, July 20 race cards: Belterra Park, Delaware Park, Ellis Park, Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack, Laurel Park, Parx Racing, and Saratoga Race Course.

Laurel also has called off its Sunday, July 21 card.

Saratoga has move the G1 CCA Oaks to Sunday.

Missing from this list and a bit suspect is the Haskell Day meet at Monmouth Park, NJ where Maximum Security is going to try and get back into the winner's circle.

I'm sitting here in Atlantic City on the beach this morning and although the ocean is cool outside at 11am it was starting to bake. I think half of Philadelphia will be heading here to kool off rather think about betting on the Haskell.

She won her maiden last year at Santa Anita. Earlier this year she won an allowance also at Santa Anita before having a 4 month spell and shipping to the East Coast.

She showed promise in NSW as a maiden but has really started to improve here in the US. Would like to see her in a mile race on the turf.

Sticking to a sprint....

Oleksandra is entered in the G2 Royal North Stakes over 6f for F&M at Woodbine, Toronto on Sunday.

Morning line odds have her @ 2/1 second pick where she will be getting 7 pounds from Summer Sunday as the 8/5 fav.

Maximum Security (4/5on) won by a half a length in the end after a "Down the Straight Tussle" over B.Baffert trained Mucho Gusto in the G1 Haskell Invitational to get free pass into the Breeders' Cup Classic later this year at Santa Anita.

Very nice win. Well deserved

Ever Fast was given a rather interesting ride being close to 20 length off the pace.
I missed the start. Did it stay in the gates or something?

The jockey just eased Everfast out of the gate and did not push from the start. The horse is really a 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 mile type of plodder.

Oleksandra (29/20 fav) finished like a train after settling last after the start and racing 3-4 wide then could not peg back leader Summer Sunday (11/4).

A great story from Racenet

A racing rarity will happen at Saratoga in the US on Wednesday when a mother and son compete on the same card.

Seven-year-old mare Enthusiastic Gal will run in the ninth race of the meeting while her two-year-old son Get Set will go around in the sixth race.

The owner of both horses, Joseph Imbesi, told the Daily Racing Form that Get Set was bred while Enthusiastic Gal was recuperating from a bowed tendon.

This weekend we have anudder prep race for 3YOs, the G2 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga. This race has attracted a couple of horses that were in the Triple Crown races in the spring. Most distinguished among the enries is War of Will, the G1 Preakness winner and Tacticus who was second in the G1 Belmont Stakes and 3rd in the Kentucky Derby. However, Global Campaign may be the most dangerous coming off his win in the G3 Dwyer at Belmont Park.

A very interesting prep race for the G1 Travers indeed!

The G2 Jim Dandy Stakes was won tenaciously by Tax (9/2) who battled well to hold off the 8/5 favourite Tacticus who missed the start and it cost him the race. War of Will finished unplaced after leading and Global Campaign came in third.

Tacticus will be tough in the Travers if he behaves in the gate.

Weekend saw some excellent racing at Saratoga that's worth reporting on this thread.

G1 Whitney Stakes for older horses was won by the leader in the division (IMO), the Bob Baffert trained McKinzie starting at 4/5on holding off the ultra consistent Yoshida.

The new turf races for 3YOs part of the new NYRA Turf Trinity/Tiara with huge stakes were competitive.
The races were classed as Black types in their inaugural runnings.

Thread of Blue (13/1) (Hard Spun — Enthused, by Seeking the Gold) won the $1 million Saratoga Derby over 1 3/16 miles in a time of 1:52.02 by 1 1/2 lengths over Digital Age with Cape of Good Hope in 3rd.

The Saratoga Oaks was won by Concrete Rose (1/3on) who has now won 2 legs of the Tiara by a comfortable 4 3/4 lengths over Happen and Kelsey's Cross.

The attention this weekend is the Arlington Million meeting at Arlington Park, Illinois on the outskirts of Chicago.
The G1 Arlington Million has attracted last year's winner Robert Bruce (CHI) and Bricks and Mortar who is on wonderful streak. Aiden O'Brien has brought over a couple to make the meet it trademark international status with the mare Magic Wand (IRE) and Hunting Horn (IRE), with the former also entered in the G1 Beverly D Stakes from F&M but at the slightly shorter distance of 1 3/16 miles.

The other G1 on the card The Secretariat Stakes for 3yos has been shortened to 1 mile has also had AP O'Brien interested with him bringing the disappointing Van Beethoven (ONT) and the lightly raced Never No More (IRE).
