Looking forward to seeing this one in the spring!

I'm posting a video of this race because of the conditions these horses had to endure. The race starts off a wet turf chute and then on the dirt track which was astoundingly muddy to the point where horse entering the straight surface water was visible. I'm not sure how much it rained but if this was SoCal the meeting would of been cancelled. In fact Del Mar cancelled this week's Tuesday meeting 5 days in advance given that weather conditions would be ripe for the first pronounceable rain in months.

No veering by Frankie in the straight.... Nice ride. Good horse and worth a drink of wine for Dieu du Vin.

Wasn't there a Kentucky Derby run in similar conditions in recent memory? Never seen anything like it.

The last 3 KDerbys have been run on rain affected tracks.

This year's was rated as sloppy as was when Justify won in 2018. And one cannot forget how Thunder Snow did not want to run on a wet fast sealed track on which water was visibly standing...

With another impending storm coming to the West Coast that's going to cause havoc, DelMar has cancelled the Thanksgiving Day card.

In the revised weekend slate, the track will move up first post both Saturday and Sunday to noon PT and run 10 races each day. There will be seven graded turf races over the two days, offering $1.3 million in purses.

Happy Birthday to all the Northern Hemisphere steeds...

New Year's Day brings us the first event of Road to the Kentucky Derby, the Listed Jerome Stakes over a mile at Aqueduct. Hot favourite will be Independence Road, who registered a 4 3/4-length win in a Sept. 21 maiden race at Parx Racing that caught the eye of Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners president and founder Aron Wellman. Joining forces with the Twin Creeks Racing Stable of Randy Gullatt and Steve Davison, they bought shares of the precocious colt and eagerly awaited his next start, which came Nov. 3 in the $150,000 Nashua Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct.

Davison, co-owner of the Ragozin service, and Gullatt had a particular interest in Independence Hall as they raced Constitution and have breeding rights to WinStar Farm's popular first-crop sire of 2019.

Their hopes were met—and then some—when the dark bay colt raised his game to a new level. He simply demolished his eight rivals in the one-turn, mile stakes, romping to a 12 1/4-length victory in the scintillating stakes-record time of 1:34.66.

I'm not going to start a new thread but this is on the same lines as Top Horses of The Decade - USA.
Also this is not my list but BloodHorse but its worth debating as well!

1: American Pharoah - Horse of the Year in 2015, Triple Crown Winner & champion at 2 in 2014
2: Wise Dan - 3 Eclipse Awards in consecutive years - he won 11 grade 1 races and lost just a single time in 16 turf races
3: Gun Runner -6 Grade 1s, topped by the 2017 Classic and 2018 G1 Pegasus World Cup
4: California Chrome - Horse of the Year title as 3YO (Kentucky Derby and Preakness) & Horse of the Year title as 5YO in 2016 winning seven of eight races, including six grade 1s
5: Arrogate - won the G1 Travers Stakes (record time), G1 Breeders' Cup Classic, G1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes  and the G1 Dubai World Cup over Gun Runner
6: Zenyatta - winning 19-for-20 and only defeat in 2010 G1 Breeders' Cup Classic by a short margin
7: Tepin - most brilliant in 2015-2016, she rattled off 11 victories from 15 races including 2015 G1 Breeders' Cup Mile, she traveled to Royal Ascot in 2016, winning the G1 Queen Anne Stakes
8: Justify - Horse of the Year in 2018, Triple Crown Winner
9: Beholder - no female horse won more Grade 1s in the decade including G1 TVG Pacific Classic Stakes in 2015
10: Bricks and Mortar - 6-for-6 year in 2019, winning top turf races from 1 1/8 miles to 1 1/2 miles including G1 Breeders' Cup Turf & G1 Arlington Million XXXVII

Obviously there are some questionable placings but all in all a superb group that raced in the USA.

January 1
G3 Jerome Stakes 1 mile Aqueduct, New York

Independence Hall (Constitution out of Kalahari Cat, by Cape Town) 1/10on short favourite lunged at the start and run up and challenged for the lead before putting away the field in the straight by 4 lengths. Prince of Pharoahs and Bourbon Bay dead heated for 2nd.
Time for the mile was 1:37.27. Gains his first points for the Kentucky Derby and is in 8th place. Probably will head down to Florida.

January 4
G3 Sham Stakes 1 mile Santa Anita Park, California

Not surprisingly as the new season starts trainer Bob Baffert shows up with a couple of horses in California which will make an impact in the 3YO season. Authentic (6/5 fav) (Into Mischief out of Flawless, by Mr. Greeley) let all the way and extended his margin in the straight to 7 3/4 lengths in a time of 1:37.57. Azul Coast gave Baffert the quinella with Zimba Warrior 1 1/2 lengths away in third. Authentic moves into 12th place in the standings.

Next - Two weeks from today - Saturday January 18
G3 Lecomte Stakes over the new distance 1 1/16 mile at Fair Grounds, New Orleans.

Field of 14 drawn.

Mr. Monomoy a second start winner winning by 5 1/2 lengths to win a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Churchill Downs was  beaten a head last out by fellow Lecomte entrant Lynn's Map who is owned by Prince Sultan Bin Mishal Al Saud.
Lynn's Map stablemate Enforceable trained by Mark Casse who was was third in the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1) at Keeneland and fourth in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) at Churchill.
Multiple graded stakes-placed Scabbard is expected to return in the Lecomte after finishing fourth in the TVG Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1). Ontario-bred Halo Again, the Coronation Futurity winner, will put his record on the line after winning his first two starts.

Kentucky Jockey Club runner-up Finnick the Fierce, Perfect Star, Excession, New Eagle, Jack the Umpire, Silver State, Bango, Shashashakemeup, and Sycamore Run complete the field.

Often as we head into the 3YO season average juveniles who were usually handily beaten into minor placing grow another leg or improve to an impressionable point. Such is the case of Enforceable (Tapit out of Justwhistledixie, by Dixie Union) who had run well in his stakes races but on Saturday showed he is vastly improved when winning the G3 Lecomte Stakes. Settling well behind after the start and shoved outside for most of the running Enforceable still had enough juice to come into the straight 6 wide and blow the field away by 1 1/2 lengths at the odds of nearly 7/1. Silver State as the joint equal favourite (16/5) who had a unsettling run and also finished well into second and Mr. Monomoy was a neck away in third.

Next: Opening of the Oaklawn Park 2020 season in Arkansas with the 1 mile Smarty Jones Stakes on Friday, 24 January.

There are nine entries including Springboard Mile winner Shoplifted and 4th place Jungle Runner with also G2 Kentucky Jockey Club winner, the Asmussen trained Silver Prospector who will probably be the favourite. Trainer Steven Asmussen has three other entries.

Two big events this weekend @ Gulfstream Park although as noted not as big as they use to be!

G1 Pegasus WC Turf for US$1 million over 1 3/16 miles (~1900m) has a field of 13 with one also eligible.
We like Magic Wand (7/2) in this but she is drawn barrier 12. Chad Brown has three entered, Instilled Regard (10/1), Sacred Life (12/1) and Without Parole (4/1) to be ridden by our international mate Lanfranco D.
They are several other interesting runners include West Coaster Mo Forza (winner of his last 4) and Arklow (G1 Turf Classic @ Belmont Park).

And the main event the G1 Pegagus World Cup Invitational over the Classic 1 1/4mile distance for a not too shabby US$3,000,000 has some nice entries of which is one of favourite from last season - Omaha Beach (7/5). I saw this nice colt at Oaklawn Park last season when he won in one of the divisions of the Rebel Stakes. A classy one who unfortunately scratched from the Kentucky Derby but was had a wonderful fall as a sprinter and also finished second in the G1 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. It will be his last start before going to stud. Just too quick to leave the scene. Spun to Run (7/2) who did win the G1 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile is also entered and will undoubtedly show presence upfront.
Other interesting entries include Tax (12/1), Higher Power (6/1), a matured Mucho Gusto (9/2) and longshot chances Bodexpress and Mr Freeze.

Both horses scratched... Omaha Beach some swelling beginning to happen in his right hind ankle.
Spun to Run - due to a skin rash.

Listed El Camino Real Derby over 1 1/8 miles @ Golden Gates Fields

(30) Azul Coast  4 points  (Well beaten 2nd in G3 Sham Stakes) Trained by Bob Baffert

Azul Coast  (11/8 fav) (Super Saver out of Sky Treasure, by Sky Mesa) rated well early then came 3 wide into the straight and won on the all weather track in 1:51.31. Jumps to 11th place in the standings with an automatic entry in the G1 Preakness still needs more points for the KDerby.

G2 Risen Star Stakes over 1 1/8 miles @ Fair Grounds, New Orleans

Division 1
(6) Enforceable 13 points (G3 Lecomte Stakes winner)
(18) Scabbard 6 points (4th G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile)
(27) Silver State 4 points (2nd G3 Lecomte Stakes)
(38) Mr. Monomoy 2 points (3rd G3 Lecomte Stakes)

Mr. Monomoy (15/2) (Palice Malice out of Drumette, by Henny Hughes) lead all the way to defeat the favourites Enforceable and Silver State in 1:50.43 proving the Lecomte Stakes was the form for this division. Mr. Monomoy heads the standings and is assured of a start in the Kentucky Derby.

Division 2

All four pointgetters in the event were new entrants in the qualification process. Modernist (13/1) (Uncle Mo out of Symbolic Gesture, by Bernardini) shook clear in the straight to defeat Major Fed by a length over Major Fed with NY Traffic a neck away in third in 1:51.28. Even money favourite Anneau D'or was a disappointing ninth.

(14) Silver Prospector 11 points (9/2) - 4th Smarty Jones Stks
(20) Gold Street 10 points (6/1) - 1st Smarty Jones Stks
