The owners would be impressed by that. They can't have been winning chances, imo.

Hopefully its not something so trivial. I have always felt trainers do not stand up for their convictions. Hopefully its a more serious issue. |

The publicly available food at most racecourses is dreadful. 90% bull's grease.

When our resident psychiatrist fiddlesticks reads this I am sure we can come to fathomable reason for his action.
Really there has to be bigger issues ( at home perhaps ) that would allow you to get so angry as to pack up and go home. |

Not excusing him for a moment for the scratching aspect, however providing he had a horse in the immediately prior race he's as much entitled to a sandwich in the owners and trainers bar as are the winning connections.

Stanaway scratches over a sandwichThis is one for the 'truth is stranger than fiction' files. Torquay trainer Bryce Stanaway scratched three of his horses from Racing.com Park on Sunday because of a dispute over sandwiches. Yep, you read that correctly. It’s understood Stanaway wanted a sandwich from the winners’ bar, but was told no. An argument with a Pakenham Racing Club official ensued and the trainer declared if they weren’t going to give him a sandwich, he was going to scratch his remaining three runners at the meeting. So that’s exactly what happened. Entirely Perfect and Trinidadian were taken out of race eight, while Traveling Wilbury was removed from the ninth. “Bryce requested that his last three horses for the day be scratched,” steward Taylor Wilson, who was chairing the meeting, said. “There was an issue with the club, we’re led to believe, he’s put forward his side of what’s occurred – he was a bit disappointed with the way the club handled an issue that he had. “We’ve yet to talk to the club in regards to that, but we will be doing that before the end of the day. “At the end of the day, we acceded to his request and authorised the scratching of three horses. “As far as we’re concerned, he wasn’t prepared to run his horses today and what the argument about is neither here nor there, we’re dealing with the racing of horses and not any catering issues that may or may not have occurred.” Stanaway, who also had Black Soul and Bardell compete in race four, is the first owner listed in all three of the runners scratched. There are an infinite number of reasons to stop horses from getting to the races, but this is definitely one of the more unusual. |

I don't understand why stewards agreed to scratch three horses for no reason relevant to the horses themselves. Poor decision, imo.

What would be stopping the trainer simply taking them home ? If the Stewards have scratched them than I guess he is in no trouble ?

My understanding was that beyond final scratching time, you needed a veterinary reason, or a deterioration in track condition, or some other excuse related to the horse's performance, the seeming peevishness of thr trainer would not qualify.

See, I read this and I do not see Stewards having approved anything. I read it as Stanaway has simply loaded them onto a truck and gone home without actually getting them scratched. |

That appears correct as I understand it. And if so, will the presiding Steward be relegated to country Sat'y meetings for authorising the scratchings. And bizarre as it may seem, Stanaway appears to be in the clear.
