His record against those factors (first up, 1400m) is effected by the great one. No great one today.

Don't get me wrong, you can't be confident about any of them. But you're using only part of the stat picture to make a case that suits your opinion - which is dangerous.

That was the easiest money any of us will win this year.
No Winx to deal with and he beats the 5 times Grp 1 winner BHB with ease over BHB's preferred distance at his favourite track.

Cooked? Well done I'd say.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left

I think Hartnell can win everything that Winx doesn't contest this prep ... great ride, far too classy.
In reference to every post in the Trump thread ... "There may have been a tiny bit of license taken there" ... Ok, Thanks for the "heads up" PT!

Also not at his best with give in the ground. Couldn't get past Charmed Harmony tells the story. Market nailed it, Hartnell was trained (and ridden) to win first up. I for one now intend to jump off.Big smile

Charmed Harmony ran second today, he's a truly grand competitor.

But now an 8yo who's never won or placed at Gp 1 level, his 2nd todaywas his first placing at Gp 2 level, and has a win and two 2nds at Gp3 level.  All up 12 starts in Gp races for one win and three placings.

Which imo puts Hartnell's (easy) win in some perspective, particularly given BHB appeared very big in the yard.

That said Hartnell should win his share this Spring.

What a good horse. A seriously good horse.

Why did Centrebet take him on this morning? Luxury $3.7 was there for the taking and plenty did considering the SP!

Jockey Craig Williams has been slapped with a $2000 fine after loading Hartnell with more weight than he needed to carry in his P B Lawrence Stakes win at Caulfield.

Williams realised when he got to the barriers he was wearing a lighter vest than the one he weighed out in and picked out some tools from a nearby farrier's bag and put them in his boots.

Williams told stewards he panicked when he realised he was riding Hartnell in the lighter vest.

"I realised behind the gates that I had the light vest on and I panicked," Williams said.

"My first thought was the horse would be disqualified. I had to make up the weight."

Williams weighed out for the Group Two race at 60.1kg but weighed in at 61.3kg.

He had weighed out to ride Hartnell in the heavier vest but before going out to ride him he had also weighed out for the following race in the lighter vest.

Williams went to the farrier's bag and took out a set of clinching tongs and a buffer and put them in his boots.

Chief steward Terry Bailey said the panel had difficulty finding a precedent and the matter would have been worse had Hartnell been beaten a narrow margin.

"It's an unfortunate situation but it could have been worse."

Williams was fined for $1000 for altering equipment without stewards permission and another $1000 for weighing in more than a half-kilogram above his allocated weight

What horse looks outstanding racing Winx ? Answer, Winx's Shadow, especially when the sun is behind them.

Would Williams have weighed in light if he hadn't loaded his boots?

In some ways you have to admire his quick thinking but how could this situation be allowed to happen, procedures should not allow this.

Is there any explanation as to why Hartnell got different weights in the Caulfield and Melb Cups? 58kg at Caulfield and 57.5kg at Flemington.

At a quick glance it seems every other horse entered for both Cups got the same weight in each.

Maybe something to do with minimum top weights??

Carpenter said Hartnell given a slight discount in MC weights to reflect his 3200m record.
