Berry says that Chaut gets a lot of satisfaction from standing in the barrier- the satisfaction of getting a win, getting his own way.Big smile

That idea surely has to be in the pipeline you'd think. Surely there is a role for him in some capacity.
Australian racing is only good up to 1400m in terms of world standards when it comes to depth/quality in numbers

Do you have inside info on this Shrunk? I see little difference to being in work as a Clerk of Course horse or a racing one Confused What didn't he like & how did he show it?

No I don’t have any inside info but I respect the owners.
Maybe I can rephrase it.

“Parhaps he wasn’t happy being retired”

Is Chautauqua coming back into work?

Rupert Legh, Chautauqua's managing owner, didn’t rule out the barrier rogue coming back into work during a radio interview on Tuesday.

Chautauqua, one of the best sprinters of the modern era, has not raced since finishing fourth in the Group I VRC Sprint Classic (1200m) on November 11, 2017.

Speaking on RadioTAB on Tuesday, Legh said Chautauqua could return to racing if he gains permission to trial.

Whether he races again or not, or whether Legh wants him to race or not, it is his fiduciary duty as legal managing owner to explore all options while the horse is sound and healthy enough to race.

Hopefully he is retired. It is not a good thing if the welfare of the horse is outweighed by the legal obligations of the manager.

What exactly is the welfare issue ?

Are we saying racing is unsafe ?

It's obvious something wasn't right with the horse mentally.

I dont know why the horse doesn't want to leave the barriers and seemingly nobody else does either. Is he a safety risk should he jump and then decide mid race that he doesn't want to go any further as Pakistan Star did? What if that was in the middle of a field?
