Regardless of how many experts & specialist say there's nothing wrong with him, I had a top racing vet tell me off the record, that they believe & accept >50% of starters are SUBclinically sore.
How may times have we been xrayed or ultrasounded for pain which didn't show up? They're no different. He's worked out racing = pain, stay in gates = no pain. The horse has earned millions, do they NEED to squeeze an extra few thousand from him at HIS expense?

I agree also Tlaz, he's lost at least 2lens on his best, this last race prep. despite winning a TJ Smith & whilst he's always settled back, he's now close to tailing off early.

We know animals have evolved to continually push thru' the pain barrier in order to survive, whether it be as prey or predator, fleeing or chasing, so it makes perfect sense for race horses to endure this also & they do, evidenced by studies showing 90% of sport horses bleed in the lungs.
However, the smart ones at whatever level, eventually work out a way to evade this e.g. the so called 'milk drinkers', barrier rogues etc., some finding whip use lessens as they drop out of contention, cause & effect, they're not all stupid.
The stoic 'honest Johns' tend to disregard warning signs & are generally the ones who break down, often catastrophically.
Well, that's my take on the subject, so whilst I hope he'll be gracefully retired, I suspect the Hawkes camp will see this as a challenge they can overcome Smile

Rubbish. It’s a plain and simple format. Jump onto the net and you’ll find it with about three clicks

If he had the Diva's, Nelly or Winx's star power the authorities might approve bringing back the starter rope that they lift (just like the jumps starts)

Or even the running starts for he trots

the solution is simple...get Wayne Hawkes behind it and when the gates open he kicks it as hard as he can up the clacker .The horse won't even touch the ground for 200 metres.

Chautauqua runs out of time for G1

Posted by: AAP+ at 7:00am on 16/3/2018
Chautauqua has run out of time to make his return in the William Reid Stakes with the champion sprinter missing a jump-out at Flemington.

After refusing thee times to leave the barriers in trials in Sydney, Chautauqua has been ordered to trial twice before he races again.

One of those was to be in a jump-out at Flemington on Friday but Hawkes Racing decided instead send him to the Cranbourne trials on Monday, four days before the Group One William Reid at Moonee Valley.

“Chautauqua is very well in himself but we have decided that he will NOT Jump Out @FlemingtonVRC He will now have an Official Barrier trial on Monday 18th March @CranTurfClub” Hawkes Racing said on Twitter.

The seven-year-old has won the TJ Smith Stakes a record three times and will be aimed at the 1200m-race again at Randwick on April 7.

Smacks of desperation to give him a send off in the TJ. Looking out for the best interests of the horse ??

What a circus and the Wayne just talking garbage as usual.
