I haven't changed yet from cable to NBN but the next door neighbour has and I'm glad I haven't yet, they have told me all of the nightmares

* speeds that were promised ....fail

* connection drops out 1/2 hours at a time, sometimes twice a day...fail

* very poor connection if it's not dropping out...fail

I will get it once they haved fixed the debacles

What was your actual, tested, not advertised, speed, before NBN, and what is it now?

I'm quite happy with NBN because I'm getting unlimited for the same price I was getting 100GB with adsl, but it's no faster. Doesn't bother me because I have very limited needs- if it streams ok to one tv that's all I need.

They say our area is NBN ready (as of about 3 months ago). In our apartment block you can only get it if you have a Foxtel service (cable). We do - however all I hear is similar to Tiger - crap reliability / dropouts / no quicker than ADSL2 - so I'm waiting as well

The recent 7’s events in London & Paris were telecast by Kayo.
After midnight,my Internet still could not stream it.
I had to tether my mobile phone to an iPad to watch it......
Hopeless!

f**king midnight ?

You hear ads basically saying a provider will be good during peak periods, You would expect all providers to be perfect in off peak. It should be bloody well perfect all day everyday.

Actually, now that I think about it, the week in London, I could watch most of it.
Although there were several games where buffering completely stuffed me.
But the last week in Paris, there had been rain, so the Internet was completely useless.

So, in good weather, in off peak times it almost works.....

My speeds are worse than pathetic from mid arvo onwards i.e. Downloading something as small as Ccleaner (latest version), is already done by the time I've clicked Save File, in the morning vs. evening which takes 7mins Angry

I have been lucky as we have FTTP here and consistently get about 23 Mbps download speed on the standard package no matter what time of day.

Have had no problems at all

After a shaky start 6 months ago we get average 45 down 18 up. It streams pretty much everything without buffering or stalling.

I suspect Turnbull and Abbott watering it down from fibre to the premises to either the node or curb will be a large part of any issues however, we've got to the curb FWIW.

And it changing from fiber to old copper from the node into your box.

Complain and they should at least upgrade the copper wiring into your home. It will improve speed a fair bit.

Thanks Mal, thanks Tones  Angry  Dead

Testing of 43 modems or routers by the Australian consumer watchdog found none could achieve download speeds of 100 Mbps over the average length of copper in an NBN fibre-to-the-node connection.

Here's a deal for you. First six months of unlimited plan at 900/500 Mbps for $49.95 per month. Goes up to $99.95 after that. You will have to move to Dunedin.

5G is hopefully not far away. They have it about 50km north of us on the Gold Coast. People are getting up to 800Mps on wifi hot-spots, and they say you should get 3,000Mps when the network is up fully.

Just got to be able to afford a 5G compatible mobile phone.

https://spacenews.com/amazon-planning-3236-satellite-constellation-for-internet-connectivity/

Your more likely to have internet services provided by Geoff , rather than slow NBN (or is that Slo-Mo NBN) or even Telstra 5G .

I believe NBN is in discussion with internet providers to charge more for streaming from services like Netflix, etc.

What a surprise   NOT, every change brings increased costs Cry

We get our NBN via the Foxtel cables in our apartment block. Not sure is that's typical or not. Thing is we are always having Foxtel outages (common even before NBN came along) & we get text messages telling us of same. Thing is they always say their is an outage occuring that may affect your Foxtel services but never mention NBN - which of course is a much more critical issue for most folk these days.

I'm happy to say Iprimus rang last week to tell me I was on an ancient plan & needed to upgrade Smile Of course, they were trying to flog their TV plan and having told them it was of no interest, that ended the call.
I immediately checked their plans to discover the unlimited fast speed one with free domestic & mobile calls (mobile didn't qualify prior) for $80 vs the $90 I been paying.
Speed was noticeably quicker last night so I checked to discover 37mps, a x10 improvement.............at long last Big smile
