In using the word 'preposterous', I don't know if Anthony means the model or weather for February is off it's rocker
Now these temperatures you can see above are simply preposterous for this time of year, we will see local hail as a minimum in the South and snow on the Alps, Tasmania would be in a blizzard next Saturday and Sunday. And out West you can see the colder air now floating much further North, so the Long Wave trough is about to organise itself. So this is the shift I have been waiting to see, it is now unfolding, and this has all come about because of that first tropical low that came down the west coast and drifted into the Indian Ocean, it was forcing a move of the ridge. |

I saw there are huge floods in WA . Northam I think it was. Carioca is in WA so maybe he can fill us in.
As Furious says, stay safe everyone and fingers crossed for no fires.

That's a little ungenerous of you Phazeal. All I'm doing is offering a little "balance" ... I feel obligated to help, when a naive fellow villager is literally screaming out for clarity and direction from anyone out there, other than the rusted on Climate Change nutters who are clearly over represented in here, compared to the real world? Clearly I'm providing a necessary public service, and providing factual examples ... now please don't allow this to trigger a nasty vitriolic, violent and abusive, response, as it would with the majority of your comrades, whenever they are confronted with an opinion that does not strictly align with their blinkered "reality" ...

You are correct about Northam although I think that is now OK. Further south Ravensthorpe has been totally isolated some drivers had to be rescued by helicopter after the main south highway was closed by floods including a bridge washed away. I live 400km north of Perth and we missed the worst of the rain. |

Thanks Doc. I might be naive but surely we can all wish for a good outcome with all Australia pulling together to overcome anything be it heatwave, flood, high tides, beach erosion, fire or freezing cold. It would be nice if we could go back to last year - but then I lost most of my veggy patch to rust with all the rain. So I guess we can't be happy whatever the weather throws at us.
It's back up over 41 so the heat is moving in but didn't seem as intense as yesterday when I took the dogs out for a break. A quick glance around showed no smoke so much better than Christmas 2008? (somewhere around then) when where ever you looked the sky glowed orange or red depending on intensity of the fire! Heat I can take. Fires are another thing.

I wasn't referring to you in that post furious, it was for someone elses benefit. I like a couple of your observations, and they are more relevant and important than most of the "graphs and pie charts" and forecasts based on rubbery figures that keep being proven wrong, that are quoted in this thread ... "balance" ... clearly very hot here now, but not so much in WA or the northern hemisphere ... is that nature at work? ... it may be that sometimes the old girl knows something that our self interested climate "scientists" don't know ( or just don't want to know?) and your comments on the "economics" and human cost of blindly falling into renewable energy, is far more relevent to a population like ours. Regardless of how the greenies lie about renewable energy that is currently available, it IS expensive, unreliable, and accordingly dangerous ... people who are on the brad line - you know the ones that the left are always so concerned about - are making life and death decisions this weekend about using fans and air con, based on affordability, and they do the same in the depths of winter regarding heating ... but that's just stuff that is irrelevant to the elite Social Justice Warriors living in their own little world of entitlement in the Eastern Suburbs, sponsoring a child in Africa to make them feel good about themselves, doing your bit for humanity (and relieving their feelings of guilt), driving the Merc to the local shops, using the clothes dyer all weekend, with the pool filter and ducted air devouring energy ... and in the same breath hypocritically saying we need to cut human emissions by 50% or the world will end, and violently abusing anyone who disagrees. If we achieve 50% reduction in emissions in Australia and endured the pain for the next 30 years, how much effect will that have on the alleged increase in global temperatures, do you think? According to the "experts" .... less than 0.02 degrees. ... and if we shut the country down and euthanised the population, THAT would achieve another 0.02 degrees reduction in the "predicted" global temperature increase. Nothing ... and that is if they are right. Interesting that THESE facts are never reported or discussed, other than by the "loony" Climate Deniers ...

Stop buying from the biggest polluter in the world, China, if you want to be serious about climate change.
How does a little backwater like Australia really contribute to the pollution of the world? apart from selling the iron ore to China, who then turn it into whatever, by way of their pollution belching smelters etc to sell back to us as a finished product. ok we also flog good quality coal to them, but jeez we have to make money somehow!! My grandkids are learning chinese at school....so they can converse with there future employers.... what a thought. We have become such a "roll over" society.

I see the Climate Liars are out in force again, and the stupid lazy media are just blindly swallowing their crap sandwiches, and saying, "mmmm, yum, can I sit on my lazy ass and have some more?".
They are telling us that it is "Australia's fault" that Global Warming (that we KNOW we have no impact on) may cause coral bleeching on the Great Barrier Reef (a natural occcurance) for 2 successive years "for the first time in history" - their "history" of course spans about 30 odd years of observation and record keeping, whilst coral reefs the world over have lived for thousands of years, and logically suffered bleeching an incalculable number of times in that period, and recovered every time, even though the "scientists" didn't notice ... Worse liars than CNN reporting on the devil incarnate himself.

Did you see Media Watch last night? Murdoch reptiles and Hadlee ranting about how Coka-Cola leaving Adelaide because of electricity issues despite clear and repeated word from Coke that it's not the reason. Fake news.
Not that the ABC are any better when it involves one of their PC sensitivities, especially the religion of peace, e.g. airbrushing of Trad story.

So if Coca Cola don't need reliable affordable energy, what was their reason for leaving? ... could they not afford penalty rates?

Good riddance to the harbingers of death, I say!
I've had a great idea that would see the SA economy thriving! They just need to provide some initial subsidies for the generator manufacturing industry to set up ... they could never keep up with the demand in their own state alone ... those generators use windmill energy don't they?

... and just imagine how many banking jobs there will be, if the banks could afford to open on Sundays ... even Bullgelati Bill could get a job as a teller - they would need to keep a CCTV camera on him at all times, and conduct a full cavity search before he left each day, of course, but they could afford it! < cavity searcher, wearing glove

China shift to renewables transforms world's biggest polluter from 'climate bad boy' into 'true leader'By China correspondent Bill Birtles Updated about 2 hours ago A third consecutive year of falling coal consumption and a renewable energy spending spree has made China the new global leader on climate change, some environmental groups claim. Figures from China's National Bureau of Statistics this year revealed a 4.7 per cent year-on-year fall in coal consumption in 2016. Coal production dropped even more, and the latest figures confirm a three-year trend of declining coal use for the country's massive electricity grid. |

Any thoughts on this ... or just a marketing stunt from a company that is struggling?
Tesla boss Elon Musk pledges to fix SA's electricity woes in 100 days 'or free'Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has joined the throng of entrepreneurs pitching potential solutions to South Australia's power woes. But the boss of Tesla and Space X has made an intriguing pitch — declaring his company could install a battery farm capable of "fixing" the system within 100 days, or else do it for free. |

YOU STUPID WOMAN , as Rene Atwah would say Sub. The East Coast is having an above average Summer while the West Coast has recorded low Summer temperatures. . You can't have the cake and eat it too. By the way , What caused the higher record heatwaves recorded in the late 1880's.?

Yes maccamax, i thought we were going to be burnt to a crisp, in enternal damnation and yet my dam is the fullest its been for this time of the year, here in perth.
Climate change means many things, and is interpreted differently by people, is what i'm learning. I assume budding entrepreneurs see it in their best financial interest, and their superannuants, to keep the climate change idea going. Starving people and failed crops is more about politics and war, sadly. |
