“In theory I guess most of the floodwaters head out to sea, which is the biggest waste and should be a punishable offence”

So I guess coastal ecosystems, and anyone dependent on those (tourism, fisheries etc) can go get stuffed, eh?

In theory I guess most of the floodwaters head out to sea, which is the biggest waste and should be a punishable offence. The stupid thing is, if we sent all of this monsoonal rain inland everywhere and planted trees and vegetation, we would alter the weather patterns and drought proof this country.

Instead, we spend 5 Billion a year on subsidies for renewable energy, so our prices sky rocket and we have black outs on hot days. So to answer the question, the Lake Eyre system will likely see a fair portion of the Mt Isa rain, it should arrive in time for May as it will take a few months. Don’t think the Murray Darling Basin will get any, it will need to be a huge rain event in NSW I think.

Out of all the hundreds of ways to fund this project, by cost cutting or raising revenue, this bloke targets renewable energy subsidies. I smell a rat.Wink

Really? I smell a halfwit. Though it’s entirely possible we’re both right.

This is precisely what has been proposed for SW WA by a govt. environmental study/paper.

Bromyn Bishop said last night on TV that Dams & channels had been on the books for years.   To feed the Darling that feeds the others.
Not as costly as we might think , but they are more likely to spend the money on a rail in the City that will benefit few by comparison.

If Morrison pledged drought proofing , coal fire energy , More Coal Mines, Reduced energy costs etc.   He can win this election.

Now THATS climate change Clap

Humidity crushes me AA...     Anyone thinking of moving North should consider that .        I know many who can't handle it .

When your reared and spend 30 years in the Mountain Snow areas , It's not easy to cope in the sticky, oxygen starved , Hell, of this " Hot Box ".
   Queensland ,

We should punish China and give it to them .   Palashady isn't doing much with it.

what are you doing here then macca - cooler climes at you age might help you think a bit straighter

Ohhh My ----   Marble.     I realise , if you ever get Haemorrhoids you will be treated by a Dentist ,     But surely you don't want to fall to the level of ( You know who )AND choose the aged as your victim .        Doesn't paint you in good light.

ive got nothing but respect for the aged macca - just don't think they should be allowed to vote as their thinking is not relevant to the issues of the day and they grossly over represent the electorates
It's just human nature to be stuck in the past - you still think its 1945.
I'm 55 and will gladly take a step back in ten years time to hand it to the youth

No you wont.  Not when the pollies of the day want to stuff you about with your money , while they draw their massive $$$ for doing just that.

Once again, marble exposes the folly of compulsory voting - and his vote is worth the same as anyone else ... Dead

Don't worry aa ... I'm very confident that marble will have no assets or super in retirement for the Gubinment to steal ... he will undoubtedly be a Labor Loving welfare parasite ... there are no excuses for those imbecilic opinions otherwise!Embarrassed

So you can't make any intelligent points to debate Marble, you go straight to attacking the man.

His fault I s'pose,if he was a winner, he would have regaled us with stories about his "successful business " and fables from his glory days about being a talented sportsman, a popular man about town, and of course a well renowned lover........

So Dr E when people fall on hard times they are parasites.  But when the government shut down industries they are not to blame!  Sometimes you just get sick.  The help for those people is there but they have to jump through hoops to get it. 13 months and counting for handrails in the bathroom when you legs can give way at any time and you have gone from earning 80 thousand a year to 20 thousand and still have the same old bills and now more medical ones!  Yes friends and family can help out but many haven't even got that support.  They are finally getting some help thank heavens but as I said nothing is easy and most of the tunnels have trip hazzards.  They don't just give it out.  Unless you know the crooks who can manipulate anything to there benefit.  This has been set up to stop that but makes it almost impossible for the truly sick to get help.   You can be at deaths door in hospital and they will stop payments as you haven't been to the office to report etc.

What are you on about furious.

marble made the moronic statement that older people should be pensioned off and ignored - I agree in his case, and it couldn't happen soon enough ... my point is that it is an embarrassment that people with that kind of mentality get a vote on ANYTHING!

The only "hard times" that marble has fallen on is being absent from the room when they handed out brains ... I'm assuming that with the ridiculous arguments that marble throws up, he has always been a welfare recipient ...

A genuine welfare safety net is part of a balanced civilized modern society, and I have never argued anything different.

You hit a sore point Dr E.  I know how hard it is and I think most people are not parasites.  Probably just your phrasing hurt.  I'm a swinging voter.  But my father was Labor all his life and a better person you could not have met.  I can't stand the greens superiority but not all the  labor party is bad same as not all the Liberal party is good.  The papers are just getting to me that I might vote to spite them as I'm sick and tired of scare politics and that is the big thing out and about again.  All I might add against Labor.

Yes, I understand furius - the parasites know who they are, and so do you and so do I ...

I voted for Hawke, Paul Keating was my local member and I voted for him too - the current Labor Party is as far removed from the principals of those men, as Turnbull is from Conservatism. Labor is now about Socialism ... big government and control - you and me, the citizens can't be trusted - and they are beholden to the Communist Greens, as they know they can't win an election without their preferences.

In saying that, I vote based on policies ... the ALP/Greens economic policies do nothing to incentivise growth and prosperity, in fact, they are the opposite, and penalise low to middle income people with moderate assets and savings, including EVERY person who owns or is buying a home ... get used to the phrase "NEGATIVE EQUITY" if Labor is elected ... that means young people who have bought property that will drop further in value, and be worth less than what they owe on it ... these people will never have the opportunity to grow their wealth, and that is where the Labor/Greens want them, controlled ... the rich will be unaffected, because they can restructure assets ... because they are rich!

you couldn't be further from the truth Doc - I started work as an apprentice when i was 16 and have worked hard all my life . I 'm no fan of lazy people and admire people who achieve.
I might have been a bit out of line with cutting out the aged ( might have had a few that night) - but when you look at whats happened with brexit then i do feel for the younger generation there who have been sold down the toilet by the older generation. It's an unmitigated disaster
Accepting and tackling climate change is another issue the older generation don't want to know about.

The negative equity we see at present is a normal and insignificant part of a market over shooting, and the effect of FOMO - people jump in when the market is overheated due to the "Fear of Missing Out" ... no big deal in a normal market, as people can afford debt, the falls will ease, and normal modest growth will return within a few years, in which time borrowers will have been reducing debt anyway.Big smile

Under Labor, the market keeps plummeting, ancillary industries shed jobs, we are in recession, people struggle to repay anything, the loss of wealth then takes GENERATIONS to recover.Ouch

... but this is what people are MISSING;

People who ALREADY HAVE PROPERTY ASSETS - LIKE HYPOCRITICAL ALP and GREENS POLITICIANS will be generally insulated as THEY HAVE THEIR NEGATIVE GEARING ENTITLEMENTS "GRANDFATHERED", and already HAVE SIGNIFICANT EQUITY IN PROPERTY as well as SUPER, which is also insulated against FRANKING TAX CHANGES ... FUTURE GENERATIONS WILL NEVER COMPETE AS INVESTORS, as it will take them DECADES TO BUILD POSITIVE EQUITY, LET ALONE AFFORD AN INVESTMENT ... Socialism 101.Dead

I have explained all of this before Whale ... please pay attention!Embarrassed

Of course I accept the fact of anthropogenic global warming but the knuckleheads do have one point- if Australia stopped emitting carbon tomorrow it would have almost no effect. So unless there is a renewable energy solution that a. solves the intermittency problem, and b.blows fossil fuels out of the water on price, and c. is adopted immediately by the big emitting countries, I can only reach the gloomy conclusion that we are farked.Big smile Am I wrong?

that argument is always put up, no denying it, but is that a reason not to do the right thing and hope every other country does the same ?
