NOB, do not catastrophise - leave that to the expert Climate Alarmists and their SJW minions at GetUp and The Greens!Wink

Long before we run out of coal, and long before the planet freezes over or turns to dust (whichever the latest Climate Lie is predicting!Ouch) we will have properly developed, reliable, affordable and quite likely cleaner alternatives to coal ... it's happening now, and it's likely that we will have these functional alternatives within decades ... and they will be adopted unilaterally around the world, for those reasons, not because they provide multi millionaires with an opportunity to pick the pockets of taxpayers via subsidies from gullible governments.Thumbs Up

I saw a show on SBS the other night & it said there'd be no coal or oil (forget which!) left in the US within 50 years. Could've been the world but whichever, there isn't an endless supply of either. Same for a huge aquifer in Jordan, presently supplying most of the countrys' produce tho' I think that is now in much shorter supply.
Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!

Quite simply, the banks and the big energy companies won’t touch new coal fired power stations. Won’t happen, and it’s not because of subsidies.

The punchline for NOB was going to be = he has to be a woman, NO man is that silly    and .
We will never be out of Coal as we don't use it.

Your naivety and blinkered compliance to the "teachings" are quite endearing!

Did "The Conversation" cut and paste that from "The Guardian" or "GetUp"?

Tell me which multi national energy conglomerate would NOT build a coal fired power station, as opposed to investing in windmills and solar panels, if the SUBSIDY IMBALANCE WAS REVERSED ... ie COAL WAS SUBSIDISED AT A RATE 6 or 7 TIMES MORE THAN RENEWABLES ... and which MAJOR BANK CEO WOULD BE SACKED, FOR NOT FUNDING IT?

Follow the money, dummies!Cry

Hey Doc, is the price of wind, tide of sunshine subject to market price manipulation?

What do you think will happen to the price of coal or oil as it starts to run short?

Nope, wrong again Doc. Banks and large energy companies aren’t going to make stategic investment decisions on the basis of subsidies, which are at the whim of the government of the time. The industry said so at the beginning of the year, and they’ve acted on it since:

https://www.energycouncil.com.au/news/credible-national-and-climate-policy-remains-solution/

Renewable is seen as the winner, coal as the loser. That’s just the way it is.

How desperate are these 'coal is king' ideologues getting?

Government backbenchers are insisting the competition watchdog investigate AGL's planned closure of the Liddell power station as a possible misuse of market power, adding to Malcolm Turnbull's headaches in settling on an energy policy acceptable  to he Coalition party room.

NSW Liberal MP Craig Kelly, who chairs the Coalition's backbench energy committee, maintains AGL's decision not to offer up the ageing Hunter Valley station for sale could be a breach of competition law and should be re-examined against the effects test, which came into force late last year.

But the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission late on Thursday ruled out a probe, reiterating chief Rod Sims' view that AGL's conduct did not amount to a substantial lessening of competition.

AGL reaffirmed in September it would close Liddell in 2022

Why would a company refuse to sell an asset to a competitor, if it is technologically and financial nonviable, and they can't do anything with it themselves??? ... do you think someone is telling fibs?Confused

Just how gullible and commercially unaware are you crazies?Embarrassed ... do you think they may want to keep it as a museum?LOL

PT and co love to imagine themselves in the vanguard of progressive dynamism, the very cutting edge of informed thinking, unfettered by prejudices......blah, blah. In reality, just apeing the latest "buzz" fed to them from social media, their next original idea their first !

No, it is just a form of elitism, falsely imagining yourself to be firmly in possession of the truth, and worse than that, thinking yourself on the side of what is "good". The ultimate fantasy. Nothing is that black and white. Only a fool is not beset by doubts, that is one certainty you can back in !

I love the "science" of the notoriously villainous Crown of Thorns Starfish, or as old Joh used to call it, perhaps more accurately, the Star of Crowns Thornfish. It has been devouring the reef for 50 years, and still hasn't managed to finish the job, but I suppose it takes the pressure off the Curse of Coal as the main culprit. You would think after all the COTS panics over the years, someone well paid to do it, would have worked out exactly what the ecology of the situation is, but no, let's organize a tinny full of divers equipped with vinegar-filled syringes, to cleanse 10,000 square miles of reef.

Yet another Green Lie!Dead

That was just a training camp for the Green Hippies, to get their chanting tuned, their lettering right on their placards, and their "look" refined.

They did so well, they are now 'legit", and on the payroll and available for any virtue signalling event on the calendar ... Adani, SSM, Bi Elections  ... you name it!Tongue

"Dial A Mindless Protester" is the main outfit, but "SJWs 'R' US!" is the new kid on the block, attracting a lot of ALP funding, and very violent and aggressive from all accounts!Clap

out of touch with reality: WA fund manager Packer and Co

Monday, 8 January 2018 12:27PMAustralia is “losing touch with reality”, according to a WA fund manager with almost $2 billion invested offshore in some of the world’s biggest companies.

Cottesloe-based Packer & Co, which manages the Investigator Trust, a pooled fund anchored by wealthy investors in Perth’s western suburbs, has also likened the political stewardship of Australia to tyrannical Roman Emperor Nero fiddling while Rome burned.

In another typically forthright, wide-ranging and offbeat biannual newsletter for the fund’s investors, Packer & Co said “our politicians are concentrating on issues like dual citizenship and backpacker taxes, while Rome burns”.It is difficult to understand why the New South Wales Government is about to spend $2 billion of borrowed money on upgrading its Olympic and other colosseums, when this money would be better spent on new power stations and other infrastructure that would create long-term employment”.

Australia, it said, was “losing touch with the reality of the modern world”.

“The east coast property boom ... has lulled the bulk of Australia’s population into a weird sense of complacency. The problem with residential property booms is that the older generations are the winners as they sell out and retire with a big nest egg,” Packer & Co said.

“Sadly their children are the losers as they have to borrow an exorbitant amount to buy their homes, and then through taxes support the baby boomer generation in their old age.”

The fund manager also weighed into the lithium debate as it defended Investigator’s big exposure to major traditional oil and gas stocks.

“The public has been led to believe that battery-driven cars will soon dominate the planet and we will live in a beautifully clean and silent world,” it said.

But Packer & Co says that while batteries will inevitably play a major future role, practical barriers to mass adoption means that oil demand will continue to increase, partly driven by the growth in air travel.

“All the ducks are in line for a serious long-term boom in the oil price,” it said.

As at December 31, an increased 28 per cent (23 per cent a year ago) of Investigator’s $1.7 billion portfolio was invested in energy stocks, including US groups Hess and Anadarko and Russia’s Rosneft and Gazprom.

Packer & Co noted the energy sector was “extremely unpopular”, but insisted it also offered “rare fundamental value”.

Similarly, it has gone against the investment trend by backing US coal miners Arch Coal and Peabody, which account for about $138 million of funds.

The energy stocks, however, weighed on Investigator’s returns in 2017, offsetting growth in its industrial, technology and banking investments.

The fund returned 9.5 per cent for the year, its lowest result since 2011, undershooting the all-ordinaries accumulation index (12.5 per cent) and the MSCI world accumulation index (13.9 per cent).

The climate change delusion will help The USA in time.    They have sense enough to give it the flick.

Interesting article, so there's plenty of money to be made in fossil fuels, and for a long time - just not in Australia whilst we have out of touch subsidies? ... who'd have thought?Ouch
