He is right Whale. I started smoking at about age 10 . Picking up bumpers was the main supply and with Servicemen everywhere , They were always good to us kids with the tobacco handouts.
Americans had those colourful ( Players ) Tailor mades . The empty packets were in huge demand by kids. Crazy blaming smoking for everything === always tell a Doctor you don't smoke ... They have fixed delusions too. But I agree, Max is very knowledgeable. |

WOW ..This Global Warming .. Some temps taken from around the Country AND = would you believe . Every area, temps recorded over 60 Years had the 3 coldest days falling on dates since the year 2000.
I found global warming does exist, I moved from the highest peak of the Great dividing range at Orange NSW ( snow area ) in 1965 and finished up north of Brisbane in 2009. It's got very hot for me since then , Bluddy Hot, but poor Orange NSW residents freeze like you wouldn't believe in winter = still. They need Coal fire assistance. |

The mildest spring I can recall for a very long time. The weather boys predicted a dry, hot spring. Turned out fairly wet, and cool, so far.

Depends where you live max! We around Ballarat scraped in 2" Sept, an inch October & bone dry so far this month & it's been as cold as winter 'till the last few days.
The weather man tipped a mild La Nina back in April so I hope we have some in store shortly as the ground's cracking in our paddocks already |

Wonder if it has anything to do with the slowing of the rotation of Earth?
Or maybe it's just a bit of good old fashioned climate change ...

Andrew Bolt doesn't mention Carl Meares any more "This is Carl Mears, the guy whose graph you keep using. We tracked him down, he has a message for you." The show then played a clip of Mears, a climate scientist and the vice president for research at Remote Sensing Systems, who contradicted Bolt's position and said the globe had indeed warmed in the preceding decades. "It's pretty clear that the globe has warmed over the last 18 years," said Mears. "When you do real science you can't just use the data sets that fit your pre-drawn conclusions, but you really need to look at all the data togetherhttp://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/waleed-aly-takes-on-andrew-bolt-over-climate-change-science-let-me-nip-this-in-the-bud-20151209-gljuj1.html |

for the dinosaurs here is a table of global average temperatures since the 1880's. Most of the warming has occurred since the 1980's. At the current rate of warming we will have an increase of 2 degrees by next century. Some areas of the planet have had higher warming - Arctic over 2 degrees. the northern hemisphere has warmed more than the southern hemisphere.
2 degree increase will lead to catastrophic changes. Raised sea level, massive displacement of people. higher incidence of weather events. we can slow this warming by increasing renewable energy output, decreasing the use of fossil fuels. Hopefully with a younger generation coming through and the old dinosaurs who have a love affair with coal fade away then we might have some chance

I hope you believers in the Climate delusion are riding Bicycles, rowing boats & using candles . If so we won't need renewable energies.
I realise Tasmania is almost underwater , The Pacific Islands must have sunk, judged by our Gaol population > Bondi beach is now at Parramatta , with Botany Bay causing washaways near Katoomba. |

You surprise me MARBLE that stupidity allows you to disregard the wisdom of experience. . I've seen many more " Flannery's " than You. . So forgive me for being loathe to accept what people like him and yourself say , as being reliable. Some ordinary common sense should have you listening to the fact we are of little consequence on Climate changes , given the comparison with what (say) India, China & America are doing. Further , I doubt the very few people who make a point of trying to put down Senior Citizens , are helping your own image or the value of your input. |

you misunderstand me macca - i have the highest respect for my seniors, i'm not that far behind. But if the old are preventing a future for the next generation then i get upset. tackling climate change is a global challenge regardless of how big or small the country is. Why should a small country be allowed to emit more carbon per capita than a large country?

Great, That's more like the Marble I know and respect. We all have opinions and that's what forums are for ... Views differ, We are all entitled to them . Even the specialists in the various fields have very different opinions on most things, and can put forward good debate forward in favour of those views. Right or wrong on this one , Australia's usage is a drop in the Ocean and it seems self destructive for us to avoid use of our resources at great cost to ourselves while we import them to advantage the billions off shore. |

Coal is a four-letter word starting with "C" these days. Easy to be an activist saying dump it, but it is a vital part of export trade.

It takes an awful lot of coal for Chinese factories to produce a few wind turbines and some solar panels to sell to ... us.

Hey marbles, you'll get your chance to fcuk the joint up ... it's our turn now, so wait in line!
Just imagine if a warming planet was actual causing greening and a time of plenty, as it always has during the history of the planet ... I wouldn't want to be the one who caused it to cool ... even the dinosaurs couldn't survive that gelati! Seriously, a couple of decent volcanic eruptions, and it won't matter if the entire planet gave up fossil fuels for a decade! ... to even think humanity can effect the planet in any significant way is simply arrogant.

Dr - to even think we havent affected the planet is irrational and destructive. There are a few slow people who might agree with you , an odd mad scientist or deranged politician who might but you are in the vast minority. Have you been to shanghai lately. you cant even spend a few hours outside before getting a headache. climate change deniers should all be shifted there to choke on your own emissions

The problem in such places as Shanghai is their failure to produce rubber goods and decentralise. Like London many moons ago was polluting themselves and had fears of rising horse shxt levels. They curbed that problem with renewables over time that advanced mankind to examples like Hiroshima & Nagasaki . . With NK setting an example , the world would give anything to return to the days of the humble Horse. |

Human emissions of CO2 dwarf those of volcanoes: There is no question that very large volcanic eruptions can inject significant amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens vented approximately 10 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere in only 9 hours. However, it currently takes humanity only 2.5 hours to put out the same amount. While large explosive eruptions like this are rare and only occur globally every 10 years or so, humanity’s emissions are ceaseless and increasing every year. https://www.snopes.com/volcano-carbon-emissions/ |

As is always the case, there is a lot of things going on, and today the bulk of the post will be about the big jump in global temperatures. Here are the latest satellite global temperatures form the University of Alabama Huntsville (UAH). You can see for the last 4 months, we have seen a steady increase in global temperatures. There is a good reason for this, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the bullgelati that alarmists are going with at the moment So what we do know, the global temps follow temps in Nino 3.4 by a lag of roughly 3 – 6 Months. Being satellite temps, this measures the entire Lower Troposphere, so not just the ground, it measures right up to 20,000 feet high. And thats why there is always a lag. For those who don’t know, here is where the Nino regions are, we measure the ENSO by taking temps in Nino 3.4 region. So the strongest ENSO events are always when this area is very cold, or very warm. |

you are reading it correctly macca - but any year can provide a spike. the idea is to draw a straight line to observe a trend. then the result is painfully obvious
