The "real" Doug Anthony ran the country as acting PM, from a caravan at a coastal hamlet in northern NSW, one Christmas, apparently. Times have changed.

I think they featured that story on an ABC feature on the history of the Nationals He lives on a property outside of Murwillumbah, and had a beachfront block at a place called New Brighton(2km from here) Now a holiday rental house on the block that he still owns They put a telephone line onto the vacant block for him

Some of the most talented people this country has produced! Sad to see Tim Ferguson struggling with MS in recent years.

Council of Australian Governments meeting agrees to counter-terror reforms including emergency alert systemTom Minear, National Political Reporter, Herald Sun EMERGENCY alerts will be sent to people’s phones during terror incidents to tell them to stay away from areas which are under attack. The national emergency alert warning system — which is currently used for natural disasters like bushfires — will be made available for security reasons as part of a suite of counter-terror reforms agreed to by the nation’s leaders today. The states and territories also agreed to share drivers’ licence photos to enable instant identification of terror suspects and other criminals. The current process can take up 10 days but the new facial recognition system, which will cost $14 million to set up, was hailed by Malcolm Turnbull as crucial improvement. He said it would not be a “mass surveillance” system. “It’s really taking a resource that has been accessed for years and years and making it available in a 21st-century manner,” the Prime Minister said. “Most Australians would assume it would be accessed in this way now but it hasn’t been.” Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said it would be “unforgivable” not to make it easier for police to identify criminals. “State and territory motor vehicle and drivers licensing agencies have been manually providing this information for a very long time,” he said. “To say that it was inefficient or not fit for purpose is an understatement,” he said. Other reforms agreed to at the Council of Australian Governments meeting included new national pre-charge detention laws allowing police to detain people planning terror attacks for up to 14 days and question them. The Commonwealth will also create two new offences targeting people accessing instructional terror material and perpetrating terror hoaxes. Mr Andrews said the nation’s leaders did not have the “luxury” of considering the “notional reduction in people’s rights and liberties and freedoms” caused by the reforms. “We are called to make the changes necessary to give to law enforcement and our security agencies everything they need to keep Australia safe,” he said. The leaders also committed to greater information-sharing to identify extremists and to improve deradicalisation programs in prisons. |

He may see himself as the next Premier. The electorate today is not rusted-in like it largely was, it could happen.

Kevin "Grecian 2000" Andrews is of course now a back-bencher, having supported the Mad Monk in the Lib leadership spill after earlier proving a totally dud Cabinet Minister.
However he's busier than ever it would appear, with two current cause celebres. The first involves running a vigorous campaign in Catholic publications and elsewhere fore-warning eternal damnation should parishioners voted YES in the SSM postal vote. And the other is even more up his alley, as it involves fund raising. Because after the Church declined to publicly fund Cardinal Pell's defence in response current Court action, Kev's been tasked with putting the extremely heavy on Christians of the Roman persuasion to dig deep and even deeper to unofficially but seriously fund the good Cardinal's defence. Yep, Kev's a very busy man.

Max, Gay has suggested you go the same way as has Whale.
He for allegedly flouting TBV rules, and you for making a clearly deliberate but nonetheless awful play on words.

Australia has to have strict gun laws as we are doing away with detention areas, in most cases.
Our criminals are housed in the community. |

Policy to deal with climate change is like primitive people killing goats to appease volcano gods, former prime minister Tony Abbott has told an audience in Britain overnight.

Looks like Tones is intent on spending the rest of his career (and probably beyond) as a full time troll. He was doing it whilst PM- the only way I can possibly rationalise his decision to grant a knighthood to Phil was to annoy his opponents. He’s never really outgrown his undergraduate campus culture warrior persona. What a stroker.

There was never any chance of my voting Lib with Tony at the wheel. Probably no chance of voting Labor with Shorten. I'll have to vote for the punters party.

I thought you were a true Maroons man Max. Precious Pauline needs us . BTW . I haven't heard of Jeff Horne recent times. I was hoping he might close Anthony Mundine down. |
