Ok, I’ll bite.

How is it stealing money to stop people getting a tax refund, when they’ve paid no tax.

Please, list all the countries in the world that you can pay a negative rate of tax.

Oh, and if you can only answer in crayons or in slogans, then you’ve lost the argument.

Australians are answering in votes:

Labor remains ahead of the Coalition with an unchanged two-party-preferred vote of 53-47%, according to the Newspoll published by the Australian on Sunday night. Labor also increased its primary vote a point to 39%, with the Coalition still on 37%.

And many self funded retirees rely on this credit and have planned their finances around it. Labor could at least have a limit, say $5000 where franking credits are returned, over that nothing. A compromise like that would at least look after those retirees with a modest income but remove benefits from the wealthier ones

So, getting a benefit for years that you shouldn’t,justifies you keeping it forever?

In what way, would people have changed their investment decisions on the basis that they would benefit from this rort?

They invested in shares not property?
Sell the shares and buy a property....

Yeo buy a property by selling a few thousand dollars worth of shares even $100,000

Great suggestion ,that iws what retirees need to do, get a mortgage Confused

Good for mortgage brokers maybe Smile

This is much like the parking tickets rort. You buty a ticket to park for say 2 hours, find you only need 1 hour.It is illegal to give your ticket to someone else. Because the council has been paid for the 2 hours but is so money hungry they want another payment for the same time period Ouch

Tax has been paid by companies, should be passed on to everyone

In the scenario where retirees have 100, or 300k worth of shares, there is zero chance that investment decision was made on the basis of franking credits being turned into cash.
That was just a side benefit,if they understood it,and claimed it.

Doesn't matter, tax is paid by companies should be available to everyone, the proposed discrimination  is wrong.

Anyway I have put my reasons, you have put forward your prejudices, oh these horrible wealthy retirees  Confused

Arguing has never changed anyone's opinion.

I guess their world is so separate from yours that you cannot even begin to understand their complaints.
And no the changes do not affect me

It is available to everyone.
The company made a profit,so they must pay tax on it.
Everyone gets a credit,so they don’t pay tax twice on the same profit.

It’s not designed so that a few actually pay a negative tax rate, which is absurd.

No one has said wealthy retirees are rotten, just they are not entitled to pay negative rates of tax.

Imagine if that happened in Australia and it was a move made by the ALP, you wouldn't be able to move on these forums for all the pink crayon that would be spewed out and thats not even factoring in macca farting on about how it got hot once in the 1890s and coal is the future.

It's Ok Whale, most retirees are smarter than rusty, and they own a property! ... Labor may have abandoned them because they don't support Gay Marriage, or Climate Change or Socialism, and even though they don't complain about being victims on social media or get included in many polls, they still vote, and they still have an inheritance they want to preserve for their kids and Grandkids ... they will get the message across in plenty of time.Wink

That decision will be thrown out on appeal in a nanosecond.

Can you imagine the ramifications of the precedent?

So they will be like Victoria and South Australia, but relying on Russia when the wind doesn't blow and the place is blacked out - sorry I mean "load shedding" - does that mean that Angela is "colluding" with Russia?LOL

Australia is about 22 times bigger than Germany. Germany is approximately357,022 sq km, while Australia is approximately 7,741,220 sq km. Meanwhile, the population of Germany is ~80.6 million people (57.4 million fewer people live in Australia).

So with a much larger land mass and much smaller population, coupled with our climate, the logical move would be to convert to solar power, is that wht you are trying to say?

Actually the “geography” of Australia, lots of coastline, wind and sun makes it the ideal place to develop renewable energy. We’ve been so complacent in this country- others without our abundant natural resources will I fear be far more innovative. We can’t rely on being a mine and a farm forever.
