yes Troppo, i find it pretty amazing really considering i dont think there has ever been a stallion stand at $5000 down here . to be booked out in June when the yearly Tassie broodmare band is around 230 is incredible. i dont know what number of services they chose to close the book. he covered somewhere between 70 and 80 last season from memory.
still when his A.E.I  is over $50 grand and his progeny racing for low stakes its a pretty good effort.

Does Testa Rossa have many sons at stud?

Unencumbered was only a 2yo, and his claim to fame was winning a QLD Group 3 and running 2nd in the Todman, unless you want to count the MM, which for a sire i think means little.

The stud manager,  Stuart,  did tell us , in Feb, that after the horse served Geard,s chosen mares,  that they were planning  to take  "about 30, maybe a few more " outside mares .
How many would the Geard,s send to him, do you reckon ?  I know they have a lot of mares !!!

We did see Clangalang,,,,
Not in the same class as Wordsmith for mine , but a good old horse all the same.
Just curious how many Wordy will get , all up.
Can you ask Stuart next time you see him at the races ,  Big smile  maybe Thumbs Up please LOL

great story for Tassie breeding with all but the last placed horse being local sires......

Stakes Quinella for Wordsmith
Tara Madgwick - Thursday, 21 December 2017
A stakes-winner at Flemington during the Spring Carnival, Hellova Street was a short priced favourite to win the $100,000 Listed Tasmanian stakes at Launceston on Wednesday evening, but had to settle for third place behind Wordsmith's classy daughters Gee Gees Top Notch and Gee Gees Goldengirl.

A stakes-winner at two and placed in the Strutt Stakes and Tasmanian Guineas at three, the Leon Wells trained five year-old did best in a thrilling finish to win the 1600 metre feature by a neck after finishing third in the Listed Conquering Stakes to boom sprinter I'm Wesley two weeks ago.

"The other horse (Hellova Street) had a hard campaign in Melbourne and is a very good horse, but I thought she could be the one to beat," Wells said.

"She was the leading two-year-old, a leading three-year-old and was just looking for a couple of lengths as a four-year-old.

"Even in foal now she'sracing very well, so the hormones must be kicking about in the right place and it was a beautiful ride by Craig as well."

Wordsmith

Wordsmith

Winning rider Craig Newitt said a recent change in riding tactics appears to be paying dividends

"She's been a consistent mare all her life and we've found a new way to ride her, which is a bit quieter," he said. "She moved into the race really nice and had a really good turn of foot coming around the corner and into the home straight."

A homebred for Paul and Elizabeth Geard, Gee Gees Top Notch has the overall record of 10 wins and 13 placings from 37 starts with prizemoney topping $356,000.

She is the lone winner to date for Danehill Dancer (IRE) mare Himstedt, who has a two year-old filly by Wordsmith and foaled again to the son of Testa Rossa this spring.

In foal to AJC Derby and Epsom Handicap winner Clangalang, Gee Gees Top Notch is one of four stakes-winners for Wordsmith, who stands at a fee of $5,500.

Love the short cannon bones on Toorak Toff and wow the strong bone on Needs Further. The Gee Gee horse looks like a foal?
Wordsmith must have a bit of age on him? Unusual looking stallion, in a nice way

another good day for Wordy. 5 winners and 2 quinellas..

Five of Eight for Wordsmith at Devonport

Mark Smith - Sunday August 1

Gee Gee Studs prolific stallion Wordsmith came out firing on the first day of the season, siring five of the eight winners at Devonport.

It may be a numbers game, but remarkably the son of Testa Rossa has averaged just 28 foals from his first eleven crops.

Four of the five winners were homebreds for Paul and Elizabeth Geard's GeeGee Stud.

The final winner of the day, the Cameron Thompson-trained Our Little ted was a $20,000 purchase by Dale Stacey from the Kingsley Park Thoroughbreds draft at the 2018 MM Tasmanian Yearling Sale.
