That's incredible, isn't it? Just goes to show the support is there when a stallion can deliver the goods the way that Wordsmith has been.

Looks like Wordsmith has another good one on the way. Malandrina arrived there yesterday for another date with the boy.

Gran Lodge dispells Derby doubts

15 / 10 / 2015 Geegees Gran Lodge (Sigy Carr) wins the maiden-class one over 1620m in Launceston last night icon Click to enlarge

IF there were any doubts about Geegees Grand Lodge being a serious Tasmanian Derby contender before he tackled a maiden-class one in Launceston last night they were well and truly dispelled when he powered his way to a very impressive win in a maiden-class one over 1620 metres.

Geegees Gran Lodge went into the race on the back of a  maiden win over 1400 metres in Hobart two weeks ago and despite the ease with which he demolished his rivals that day, punters still sent him around at the lucrative price of $3.50.

With South Australian-based apprentice Siggy Carr in the saddle, Geegees Gran Lodge was used up early from a wide gate to land fourth in the one-out line with cover which was a great piece of horsemanship from the Tasmanian-born rider.

When Carr called on the three-year-old colt to extend, he quickly collared the leader and went on to score by over two lengths from outsider Aussie Alice with All Wrapped up a close-up third.

“I was excited about this horse before he won his maiden in Hobart and even more excited after that race but tonight he was awesome and we can now genuinely look at aiming him towards the Tasmanian Derby (in February),” Wells said.

funny you should ask Campaspe, he is very athletic and a great nature. two stone less today along with Spirits little brother. Rebel has knocked his off hind fetlock and its been swollen for 8 weeks. we have treated him with bute etc but to no avail. the xrays show a growth fault at this stage where there is some seperation in the fetlock. we have decided to just give it time and  hopefully it all comes right. Dylaca trials again on Tuesday the we look for a race for her. she is bigger and stronger and ran slick time on the sand the other day breaking 23 for the final two furlongs so we are hopeful....

Why don't any of the 'GeeGee' horses race ever compete on the mainland?

It's bizarre reading through the racing history of a couple of the very good ones and that they just race for very little money in races that aren't their pet distance with a ton of weight.

Hard to ignore the Geegees.

What's his numbers look like without that ownership?... just trying to eliminate any sample bias.

ithe majority of the the Wordsmiths belong to The Geards but this will change with the last 2 seasons where he covered 50 + mares and this season he is covering around 100 mares.  i have been following his A.E.I lately and it is increasing at around $1000 a week at the moment and stands at over $41 grand just easing into to our better racing season. given the poor prizemoney in Tasmania throughout the general racing season i would say this is a good result.

Sounds like exciting times, Slowdown. Are you just going to have the one to start with, or will you get one or two older tried horses to learn with?

thanks Ecair, can only hope i got one of the good ones. he is an outstanding sire as mentioned in the other thread. 4 race wins today including a trifecta, quinella and two wins. should get the 30 day positive for Malandrina today. he offers the state a lot with his winners and bloodlines hopefully too. not sure that we will see the winner over yet. Leon said she is too young yet but maybe one day.

They must be weird people, not only with everything being named 'gee gee' but never, ever, ever sending any of their horses over to Melbourne, they've had a couple of fairly decent ones that were clearly better then tas racing, foals out of La Quita have been pretty good.
