It has taken me all of my years to find out what "POP" music meant.
As plain as daylight. POP= popular. Elvis sold his rock 'n' roll soul to POP after his army service. Many never forgave him. It all started(the change to POP) with **ITS NOW OR NEVER . EP's biggest single hit ever. ** based on the Italian song " O SOLE MIO" |

South Africa.
A marine biologist promised something special. Throwing a line from the beach she caught a snapper. Nothing special until she opened its mouth. There it was.....the tongue eating parasite.....it parks itself on the fish tongue, sucks the blood out and eventually becomes the tongue. You can find a video of it. Here's a pic of the parasite ( as the tongue within the fish) |

I love my NSW racing but these days I only bet for entertainment.
MY mate still likes to bet big and he relies on my tips to save his backside.( he bets on everything, soccer included) The trouble is,my tips are always VALUE,sometimes big value. I gave him 4 tips for SCONE yesterday...and 2 won... he had the first winner(@7/1) with the other 3 horses in "DOUBLE" all ups. The last tip got him home with a 100/1+ combination(for win) So,I'm in form. Anyhow, I hate city meetings but I really want to watch the performances of these horses today at WF. FARE WELL...enormous jump in class but this horse is going to be quite special. TOYDINI...Epsom winner or a COX plate chance this prep? UNIMPEACHABLE...Joseph Pride promised us that this would be a special campaign, this time. Victoria bound? and ICHIHARA.... Always possessed of brilliance. Will be in the race for a long way. May pull too hard.

Bet you didn't know this.
HOUDINI yes but he took his name from the famous HOUDIN,considered as the first MODERN DAY MAGICIAN. HOUDIN (pronounced WHO DAAN) at the request of the FRENCH GOVT was actually used to quell a possible Arab uprising, using his "LIGHT AND HEAVY CHEST"...a device we could not be tricked with today. |

Melanie Susan Potier or Poitier (November 14, 1947 - June 23, 1981), better known as Suki Poitier, was an English model. She was born to Gilbert and Mary (née Moore) Potier in Surrey. She had an older sister Rosemary Sarah (Sally) Potier born February 12, 1946. As a teenager, she modeled for all the great English designers, becoming a favorite of Ossie Clark. At the age of 18, Suki was dating Guinness heir Tara Browne, who was separated from his then-wife, Nicky. On December 18, 1966, Suki was a passenger in Tara's Lotus Elan when he drove through South Kensington at high speed, colliding with a parked lorry and died soon thereafter. Suki was not injured. Purportedly, part of The Beatles song, "A Day in the Life" is based on this incident. It was this tragedy that led her to Rolling Stones musician Brian Jones. Suki said, "He gave me a shoulder to cry on and he picked up the pieces and made me feel a woman again". The two dated for approximately two years from mid-1967 to early 1969. Suki moved to a fifteenth-century farmhouse with 27-year-old Brian in the last eight months before his death. The house was once the home of AA Milne, creator of the Winnie the Pooh stories. It was there in the swimming pool that Brian, who had by then left the Rolling Stones, drowned mysteriously. By the time of Brian's untimely death, however, they were no longer a couple. Suki was shattered by Brian's death. Suki remained friends with the Rolling Stones, going to parties with Mick Jagger, attending the Isle of Wight Festival with Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and other members of the Stones camp. In the 1970s, Suki married a Hong Kong businessman named Robert Ho, the eldest son of casino mogul Stanley Ho and wife Clementina Leitao Ho, with whom she had two daughters, Faye and Sarah. On June 23, 1981, while in Portugal, the couple were both killed in an automobile accident in their Bentley on the road to Cascais,[1] while returning home to their two children, having had a quiet dinner with Robert's mother, who lived nearby. Today, eldest daughter Faye is active in Macau nonprofit organizations. An avid supporter of children, the elderly, and animal welfare, she is Chairwoman of the Macau Children's Association, Managing Director of Macau Charity Association, Director & President of SPCA - ANIMA Macau. Her youngest daughter Sarah Ho is a successful jewellery designer, who was trained as a goldsmith at the London Metropolitan University and then graduated as a gemologist from the HRD Institute of Gemology in Antwerp, Belgium. She established her own company, SHO Fine Jewellery, in 2006. |

Fallen high-flyer Bo Xilai can expect hotel-style treatment at a jail for China’s political elite, where he will enjoy comfortable surroundings but be constantly monitored by government agents, former prisoners say. Hidden in wooded hills north of Beijing, guards stand outside the red gate of Qincheng prison, where the once-powerful Bo is widely expected to begin his life sentence after being convicted Sunday of bribery, embezzlement and abuse of power. The jail has high grey walls, but there are no obvious signs of barbed wire or watchtowers. “It’s like a five-star hotel,” said Bao Tong, a former secretary to the ruling Communist Party’s all-powerful Politburo Standing Committee who spent seven years in the prison for opposing the 1989 crackdown on protesters in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. Inmates at the facility -- which has housed almost all the high-ranking politicians jailed in China since the 1960s -- are given large private cells equipped with soft beds, sofas, desks and an en-suite bathroom, former residents said. “I was pleasantly surprised the first time I saw my room,” Dai Qing, the adopted daughter of a Chinese commander, wrote in a description to AFP. Dai, who spent 10 months in the prison for supporting the Tiananmen demonstrators, described her cell as about 20 square metres large (215 square feet) and coming “with high ceilings... and even a bathroom”, while prison guards treated her with “warmth and care”. “The head of the prison let me put on better clothes before I left,” she recalled of one occasion when she was let out to visit a sick relative. “He reminded me of my old school headmaster.” Prisoners can choose their clothes, drink milk for breakfast and eat selections of soups and meat dishes for lunch and dinner, they said. Some of the jail chefs used to work in one of Beijing’s top hotels and prepare food to “ministry chief level”, according to a recent report by the Beijing Times. |

SEOUL (AFP) – North Korea on Sunday angrily denied reports that it had executed several state performers to cover up the past of its first lady, calling the media accounts an "unpardonable" crime. The denial came a day after the North indefinitely postponed reunions for families divided by the Korean War, citing South Korean hostility, slander and provocation. Sunday's denunciation focused on several recent reports carried by the South's "reptile media" aimed at "hurting the dignity" of supreme leader Kim Jong-Un. In particular it cited a Saturday report in Japan's Asahi Shimbun newspaper -- picked up by South Korean broadcasters and websites -- that several members of the North's Unhasu Orchestra and other state music troupes had been executed by firing squad for taping themselves having sex. Ri Sol-Ju, Kim's wife, is a former member of the orchestra. Asahi said the rare execution of state performers, including a singer rumoured to be Kim's ex-girlfriend, had been ordered to squash rumours of Ri's decadent lifestyle while she was an entertainer. It said police had secretly recorded conversations between the entertainers who said, "Ri Sol-Ju used to play around in the same manner as we did". The source for the Asahi report was a "high-ranking North Korean government official who recently defected". South Korea's Chosun Ilbo newspaper had reported the alleged executions last month, but there was no response from Pyongyang at the time. |

This came to light following the arrests of five Malaysians at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, between Sept 15 and 18 for shopping with cloned credit cards. China Press reported today that illegal money-lending syndicates target those who have borrowed large sums but are unable to repay their debts. These debtors are then either coerced or forced into becoming "card mules" or runners. Using fake cards provided by the syndicates, they purchase expensive products overseas for these loan sharks to off-set their debts. The five Malaysians, aged between 20 and 30 years, were caught with over RM400,000 worth of items including branded watches, bags, apparels and expensive liquor. Thailand police, who made the arrests, found 50 fake cards bearing information issued by overseas banks on the "card mules". To avoid suspicion, the "card mules" were provided with business class tickets and booked into five-star hotels in the Thai capital. Thai airport police told the daily that besides impressing sales assistants with their business-class tickets which they are required to produce when making purchases, they timed their transactions close to boarding times to enable them to make a quick exit from the country. A suspect told police he was forced to become a "card mule" when he was unable to settle a RM100,000 debt while another had run up a huge debt with loan sharks after losing heavily in football betting. All five were later charged with fraud in court. One of them was also charged with assault for punching a policeman during his arrest |

Document Detail: Copper bracelets and magnet wrist straps have no real effect on pain, swelling, or disease progression in rheumatoid arthritis, according to new findings from a study conducted at the University of York.
In the first randomised controlled trial to study the effects of copper bracelets and magnetic wrist straps on rheumatoid arthritis, 70 patients with active symptoms each wore four different devices over a five-month period, reporting on their pain, disability, and medication use throughout the study. Participants also provided blood samples, after wearing each device for five weeks, in order to monitor changes in inflammation. The research published in PLOS ONE, show that both the standard magnetic wrist strap and the copper bracelet provided no meaningful therapeutic effects beyond those of a placebo, which was not magnetic and did not contain copper. Dr Stewart Richmond, a Research Fellow in the Department of Health Sciences at York, who led the study, said: "It's a shame that these devices don't seem to have any genuine benefit. They're so simple and generally safe to use. But what these findings do tell us is that people who suffer with rheumatoid arthritis may be better off saving their money, or spending it on other complementary interventions, such as dietary fish oils for example, which have far better evidence for effectiveness. Warning people who suspect they may have rheumatoid arthritis to consult their GP and seek early medical treatment, rather than placing faith in such devices, is also important in helping to avoid long-term joint damage resulting from uncontrolled inflammation." Dr Richmond suggests there are two main reasons why wearers sometimes report benefit: "Firstly, devices such as these provide a placebo effect for users who believe in them; secondly, people normally begin wearing them during a flare up period and then as their symptoms subside naturally over time they confuse this with a therapeutic effect. Pain varies greatly over time in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, and the way we perceive pain can be altered significantly by the power of the mind". Magnet therapy is often privately used for the management of chronic pain, with estimated worldwide annual sales of devices exceeding one billion US dollars. The practice of wearing copper bracelets to combat rheumatism has been popular since the 1970s. An earlier study by Dr Richmond and his colleagues, published in 2009, threw doubt on the effectiveness of such devices for osteoarthritis. The present study builds on and extends these findings. |

SYDNEY (AFP) – One in four Australians believe humans co-existed with dinosaurs while one in three think it takes just one day for the Earth to orbit the sun, according to a "worrying" survey published Wednesday. The Auspoll survey of 1,515 adults for the Australian Academy of Sciences showed basic scientific knowledge was declining on key questions, including human influences on evolution and the Earth's reserves of fresh water. Only 59 percent of those surveyed knew that it took Earth one year to orbit the sun, a fall of two percentage points from the same survey three years ago -- with 30 percent saying it took just one day. |

A four-year-old British boy caught up in the Kenya mall massacre showed incredible bravery by confronting a marauding gunman who ended up begging for his forgiveness.
Elliot Prior, from Windsor, Berkshire, told one of the terrorists that he was a 'very bad man' as he protected his mother, who was shot in the leg, and six-year-old sister. Astonishingly, the terrorist took pity on them and handed the children Mars bars before telling them: 'Please forgive me, we are not monsters |
