Loved the horse, shame the market are only looking for 2 yo squibs. Maybe he goes to New Zealand to stand considering they still love/breed middle distance horses .

8th at NBY, Mdn, 7500Coln Valley Stud Bridget Maiden Fillies' S.(7f)Winner: Princess de Lune (Ire), f, 3 by Shamardal

Shamardal | Darley

By Tom Frary

8th-NBY, £7,500, Mdn, 4-21, 3yo, f, 7fT, 1:25.44, g/f.
+PRINCESS DE LUNE (IRE) (f, 3, Shamardal–Princess Serena, by Unbridled’s Song) was unruly and green in the preliminaries, but was professional throughout the early stages of the race and was always in touch with the leaders racing towards the stand’s side. Travelling strongly to the front with minimum prompting approaching the furlong pole, the 7-2 shot veered left and flashed her tail when the whip was applied but was nonetheless clear best and hit the line with four lengths to spare over Alnaas (GB) (Dansili {GB}). “We nearly ran her as a two-year-old, but she is very tall and big,” trainer Roger Charlton explained. “We will just take our time with her.” Tirania (GB) (Pivotal {GB}), the €370,000 GOFORB sister to the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas runner-up Penkenna Princess (Ire), made encouraging progress late on to be 2 1/2 lengths further behind in third. The winner is a full-sister to the G2 P B Lawrence S. and G2 Blamey S. winner and G1 Turnbull S. and G1 Makybe Diva S. runner-up Puissance de Lune (Ire), MGSW & MG1SP-Aus, $877,536, and to Majesty (Ire), MSP-Aus, $205,736. Princess Serena, who has a yearling filly also by Shamardal, is also the second dam of Rizeena (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}), heroine of the G1 Coronation S. and G2 Queen Mary S. and an Irish highweight by virtue of her success in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. The second dam Serena’s Sister (Rahy) is the producer of the GII American Turf S. winner and GI Woodford Reserve Turf Classic and GI Maker’s Mile S. third Doubles Partner (Rock Hard Ten) and, as her name suggests, a full-sibling of the brilliant Serena’s Song. That 11-times grade I-winning champion was able to transmit some of that excellence to her sire son Grand Reward and G1 Coronation S.-winning daughter Sophisticat (Storm Cat), among others. Sales history: 300,000gns RNA Ylg ‘15 TATOCT. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $6,217. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.

Off the mark with his 2nd runner.

She looked a potential Oaks filly until I saw her pedigree LOL

She won that in dour and nice fashion so she might stay.

I mentioned that filly in the Raceday thread
She is a big tough looking well built filly.
On first look, I thought she was an aged gelding.

Don't think anyone has congratulated djebel for picking this filly out early on, so well done fella.

And the sire is going very well, just a pity his covers have dropped off considerably.  Hopefully he got some late bookings in 2019 on the back of Moonlight Maid and others.

His stock show great promise, though some may consider an increase in stud fee from $8,800 to $19,800 a tad much on the back of one stake-winner and two stakes place-getters thus far.

Though the recent demise of Shamardal, with one of his unproven sons standing up the road at an advertised fee of $44,000, entitles Swettenham to be commercially opportunistic.

In that case, be opportunistic and go to $35k or more.

IMO the fee is neither arse nor elbow - too much for the majority of last season's 150 mare owners, not enough of a premium to draw comparisons with Blue Point and the suggestion of 2yo success.

His right place, on their roster at least, is probably $12-15k. A sticker price that may as well say $20k is just unnecessary risk.

Sires his 2nd Stakes winner and 4th stakes horse from just 33 starters with Chantrea winning the Belmont Oaks over 2000mts yesterday to remain unbeaten. Owners of the Puissance breed will need to be patient (I have a share in a Puissance yearling) but the breed will reward those that are willing to wait.

They have shown plenty early. Sure they are unlikely to be stakes winning 2yos but the quality ones will be running in the backend 2yo races.

The fact that they're not 2 year olds is the reason I bought a share in one. Mine is with Mitch Freedman who has 7 of them in his stable incl of course Moonlight Maid and Southern Moon

I'm not sure pushing them as early 3yos does them much good long term either Confused

Southern Moon out for spring carnival with tendon injury

Mitch Freedman's talented grey stayer Southern Moon will miss the upcoming spring carnival and a potential shot at the Melbourne Cup after suffering a tendon injury.

Freedman said the horse had sustained the issue during light work and that it would now be a long road to recovery for last year's Victoria Derby runner-up.

"It was just a bit unusual how he got it, he'd only been in trotting and cantering. He's just on a rehab program now," Freedman said.

"Hopefully he is sort of back and racing around this time of year next year."

Southern Moon underwent surgery for bone chips following his second placing in the Derby and hasn't been seen at the races since.

Freedman said the tendon injury was unrelated to the earlier issues.

"That felt really good when he returned to work," he said.

"It's really disappointing, but at the end of the day (the owners) have had a horse that has run second in a Derby too. You take the good with the bad, I suppose."

Freedman, who has been based at the Ballarat Turf Club training complex since 2017, revealed some of the grand plans with the son of Puissance de Lune.

"Originally when he came in before everything was going on with this coronavirus, we were planning to take him to Queensland for possibly a race or two... spell him up there and then get him ready for some country cups in the spring," he said.

"And then after all this has happened he would have probably been an ideal horse to try and head towards maybe a Melbourne Cup with a light weight because it's more than likely they'll struggle for internationals this year."

Southern Moon has only won a maiden at Donald, but has collected more than $430,000 for connections from just six starts.

Freedman has another star of the stable stepping out this weekend. Broadwayandfourth, which raced in last year's group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, is first-up from a spell at Caulfield on Saturday.

Meanwhile, VRC Oaks third place-getter Moonlight Maid is on a path towards the Australasian Oaks on May 2.

Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!
