Apologies for missing Wyong today, but I will include our fellow horse players from New Zealand with the ratings for Tarzino Trophy tomorrow.

Hastings.

Tarzino Trophy.

1. No.10 - Scott Base - 80. One of the better 3yo's from last season, the 1400m first up ideal and should get his chance from the draw.
2. No.1 Jon Snow - 80. Ran this day last year in the Memsie and was only 3 lengths off Vega Magic. Just not sure at wfa, but his class will carry him a long way.
3. No.4 - Hiflyer - 78. Again wfa is a concern, but his two runs in Sydney during the winter with big weights suggest he can run well here. Good value at around the $6.00.
4. No.9 Wyndspelle - 76. Back home where he started his career. His form in Melbourne is competitive here and 1400m is ideal.
5. No.15 Melody Belle - 75. 1400M is still a doubt, but her fresh win was excellent. Has the talent, but needs everything to go right.
6. No.17 Francletta - 74. Her form in Sydney earlier in the year has her right in this. A thirdto Dixie Blossoms and only 3 lengths off Alizee in the Coolmore, suggest she has quality. Has group 3 and 2 wfa mares form in NZ and can see her being highly competitive here.

Add ins for any scratchings are No.5 & No.6.
Recommended Bet: $30 win No.10 Scott Base
                 $20 win No.1 Jon Snow
Precedent: No.15 Melody Belle.

Makybe Diva Stakes.

1. No.11 Kementari - 89. This is his first run at Flemington, but that should not matter. Drawn well to stay out of trouble, can sit forward in this field and the jockey change is a positive. Distance suits and this is his best chance t group 1 glory this spring.
2. No.3 Humidor - 89. Looks very well placed here. Should have come on, from his last start and whatever beats him home wins.
3. No.1 Happy Clapper - 87. Forget he ran last start, just never handled Caulfield. Back on to a track where he has run well at 2000m, and no reason he can not win here.

Caulfield.

Jim Moloney Stakes.

1. No.9 - 82
2. No.3 - 81
3. No.5 - 78
4. No.7 - 77 ( this is the best filly in the race, but tht barrier is a shocker)
5. No.1 - 76
6. No.14- 75
Add ins for any scratching are No.15 & No.8.
Recommended Bet: $50 win No.7 Assertive Play (this is a risk on my part but as I said she is the best filly in the race)
Precedent: No.3 Krone

Naturalism Stakes. This is a high quality, high rating race. And after last weeks high rating Kingston Town in Sydney the overseas raiders would want to be good to win either cup this year.

1. No.10 - 87
2. No.17 - 87
3. No.1 - 85
4. No.4 - 83
5. No.13 - 82
6. No.11 - 79
Add ins for any scratchings are No.12 (if that was a better barrier then he would be a top four rater) & No.16.

                  $20 win No.13 Hiyaam
Precedent: No.10 Night's Watch

Sir Rupert Clarke.

1. No.2 Home Of The Brave - 89. Top win last start. Well weighted, 1400m suits, and will go forward. Hard to beat.
2. No.3 Showtime - 87. Win two starts ago was good. Drops in weight and the gate is a nice draw. Needs a great performance to win but he has the talent.
3. No.16 Holy Snow - 86. First up run was good at wfa, he drops nicely in weight and he has form around group 1 horses. Drawn to get a good run and will look a winner at some stage in the straight.
4. No.8 Land Of Plenty - 85. Still think 1600m is his best distance, but he gets his chance here.
5. No.1 Jungle Cat - 84. His oversea form is good, 140m form is good and he has been carrying good weights. The only reason he is not with HOTB is we do not know if he has settled in.
6. No.4 Osborne Bulls - 82. Has come through the grades well, but this is his acid test, he is giving weight to some talented animals and he is going to need luck from the draw.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.7 & No.15.
Recommended Bet: $20 win + $30 place No.16 Holy Snow
Precedent: No.13 Humidor

How Now Stakes.

1. No.7 - 83
2. No.1 - 81
3. No.9 - 79
4. No.14- 77
5. No.4 - 76

Rosehill.

Gloaming Stakes.

1. No.1 - 84
2. No.2 - 79
3. No.4 - 77
4. No.3 - 74
5. No.6 - 72

Recommended Bet: $50 win No.1 Tarka
Precedent: No.1 Tarka

Colin Stephen Quality.

1. No.7 - 82
2. No.2 - 80
3. No.6 - 79
4. No.8 - 77
5. No.3 - 75
6. No.1 - 75
Add ins for any scratchings are No.9 & No.4.
Recommended Bet: $50 win No.7 Miss Admiration
Precedent: No.8 Goathland

Shannon Stakes.

1. No.5 - 83
2. No.2 - 79
3. No.3 - 78
4. No.6 - 76
5. No.4 - 74
6. No.1 - 72
Add in for a scratching is No.7.
Recommended Bet: No.5 Noire
Precedent: No.4 Kingsguard

Golden Pendant

1. No.2 - 83
2. No.1 - 82
3. No.5 - 81
4. No.4 - 79
5. No.3 - 79
6. No.10- 77
Add ins for any scratchings are No.6 & No.9.
Recommended Bet: $50 win No.5 Champagne Cuddles
Precedent: No.3 Daysee Doom

Golden Rose.

1. No.4 Graff - 85. Has had a nice prep leading in with two good runs, and expecting the 1400m to be ideal for him at this stage of his prep.
2. No.1 Lean Mean Machine - 84. Top quality effort when once clear first up. Just worried that he did that in his debut prep and then his next run was a dip in performance. If he puts in the performance last run, he wins.
3. No.2 The Autumn Sun - 82. High class, top line group 1 performer, but coming back 100m and he has not had an ideal prep with a virtual barrier trial last start and no hard 1400m run leading in. Can still win.
4. No.3 Zousain - 78. I am just forgetting his run on tat sticky track last start. If nice and dry here, I am expecting much better.
5. No.5 Sandbar - 77. Very underrated galloper. Like the 1400m, his fresh win was good, he just did not handle the conditions last time and back on to the dry he can certainly finish top four.
6. No.11 Seabrook - 76. First up was okay, behind an outstanding performance. 1400m looks ideal at this stage, has an awkwrd draw, but she can be competitive. Like the Victorian precedent in this race, she can place, but not win.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.7 & No.6.
Recommended Bet: $30 win No.4 Graff
                 $20 win No.3 Zousain
Precdent: No.1 Lean Mean Machine

Good luck, and lots of success, for everyone!

It is good when you proof read things, but how about doing it before I post.

In the Rupert Clarke the Precedent horse is incorrect, it is the right number 13, but it is Oregon's Day.

1. No.3 Ball Of Muscle - 87. His last two have been sensational. Looks suited to the race and this is his chance to win his group 1.
2. No.6 Nature Strip - 85. Going well, but different type of race here. Bigger field, giving weight to some quality females. Too short for me but good luck if you are on him.
3. No.7 Viddora - 84. Trial was tip top, likes the track. 1000m might be a tad short these days, but her unlucky effort in this race last year can see her finish in the placings once again.
4. No.1 Brave Smash - 82. Top quality sprinter and again, if it was 1200m he would be rating higher.
5. No.2 Voodoo Lad - 80. Just off the top sprinter group, but if the speed is on he can finsih best.
6. No.8 Houtzen - 80. Great effort fresh. Looks to have matured a little during her spell, should be cherry ripe fitness wise and she can win if she settles in a good spot.

Flight Stakes.

1. No.2 Miss Fabulass - 89. High quality win last start and she is a thoroughly deserving fav.
2. No.4 Pretty In Pink - 84. 1600m looks ideal but she needs to improve to beat the fav.
3. No.3 Fiesta - 79. Not quite sure about 1600m, but she is classy enough to place.
4. No.9 Maid Of Heaven - 77. Nice effort last time and 1600 looks ideal.
5. No.12 Mizzy - 76. Will give her last start a miss. She might be looking for longer, but with not much speed in the race she can slide across and give a good kick.
6. No.6 Futooh - 74. Looked to just drop from her fresh run last start. Can sit closer out to 1600m and has won at the track and distance.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.1 & No.7.
Recommended Bet: $50 WIN No.2 Miss Fabulass
Precedent: No.4 Pretty In Pink

Epsom Handicap.

1. No.2 - Pierata - 85. Good effort when second in Randwick Guineas at track and distance and can see the race panning out that way here as well, where D'Argento will be giving him a start.
2. No.3 - D'Argento - 84. Deserved fav, but that gate and his usual style have me worried. Can win but will need luck in the straight.
3. No.4 - Shillelagh - 83. drawn well, has a good 1600m record, well weighted and her second up record is good.
4. No.7 - Unforgotten - 80. Better at longer, but her form this prep is outstanding, just think she is kilo over at theweights which could tell in the last bit.
5. No.11 - Lanciato - 78. Fresh run was outstanding. A little drop off last start, but just thought he was looking for the 1600m. Good long priced chance.
6. No.16 Siege Of Quebec - 76. Top effort last time out and is mapping well with the 50 kilos.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.1 & No.8.
Recommended Bet: $20 win No.2 Pierata
                  $10 win + $20 place No.4 Shillelagh
Precedent: No.3 D'Argento

The Metropolitan.

1. No.3 Libran - 89. Just needs luck during the run from the gate.
2. No.2 Big Duke - 87. Top effort last time out and this looks an ideal race. Should be able to sit closer in the run from the good gate.
3. No.9 Miss Admiration - 82. Top effort last time out. Has run well here at 2400m before, drawn to get a lovely do nothing run, well weighted, and the last time she backed up within a week, she ran a good race in the VRC Oaks.
4. No.1 Auvray - 80. Good effort at Newcastle. Looks well suited here and I am not sure he can win but should run well.
5. No.6 Patrick Erin - 78. Had every hope last time, but still a good effort. The 2400m looks ideal, and definite top four hope.
6. No.10 Brimham Rocks - 76. Got the favours along the fence last start, but he puts himself in his races. Will not get as good a run here, but he drops nicely to 50 kilos and has a chance.
Add ins for the sratchings are No.4 & No.7.
Recommended Bet: $30 win No.3 Libran
                 $20 win No.2 Big Duke
Precedent: No.4 Patrick Erin

5. No.9 - Grunt - 79. High class effort at Flemington but his rating does drop at Caulfield until he wins here.

2. No.5 Wyndspelle - 77. 2000m is doubtful, but form wise he is right in this.
3. No.10 Our Abbadean - 75. Barrier is a hurdle, but if she can find a good spot in the run, she can win.
4. No.12 Danzdanzdance - 74. If had had on run at 1600m, he would higher up. The Gibbs's know what they are doing, so trust the trainer.

The ratings for this weekend are.

Randwick.

Sydney Stakes.

1. No.5 - 84
2. No.14- 82
3. No.15- 80
4. No.6 - 79
5. No.13- 77
6. No.10- 76
Add ins for any scratchings are No.16 & No.17
Recommended Bet: $50 win No.14 Spright
Precedent: No.6 Kapernick

The Everest. Yes it is not a group race, but C'est La Vie.

1. No.6 Brave Smash - 89. Great run in last years race, form since has been terrific, last run was good at 1000m, drawn well and has Bowman on. Can sit a little more forward than usual and save his effort for the final run. Good overs.
2. No.10 Shoals - 87. Good record at Randwick, 1200m is ideal, and I think she is a cert for the top four. Needs no bias and/or a clear run in the last 200m, but they usually get off the fence late in the day on a wet track at Randwick.
3. No.11 Viddora - 86. Has run well the Sydney way of going, her fresh run was a cracker, 1200m suits better, and Randwick should suit. Just not sure how she is $15, but I will have some of that.
4. No.2 Santa Ana Lane - 84. Career best performance last start, still underrated, but he is a triple group 1 winner, now a group 2 wfa winner, and has shown he can run fast time by breaking the track record last time out. If he can stay at that level he can win a very competitive race.
5. No.1 Redzel - 83. Just not quite going as well this year as he was coming into last years race. His racing pattern keeps in as a winning hope, and the wet track will suit him better than most, but only a top four hope for mine.
6. No.3 Le Romain - 80. Not afraid back to 1200m here, is a group 1 wfa winner, last start second to Winx is good form, likes the track, handles the wet better than most, and has drawn well for him as he will get back and come out wide, needing a clear run from the 300m. Again not sure he can win, but on the wet track he is overs.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.4 & No.5.
Recommended Bet: $20 win No.6 Brave Smash
                 $20 win No.10 Shoals
                 $10 win No.11 Viddora
Precedent: No.2 Santa Ana Lane

Craven Plate.

1. No.2 - 84
2. No.3 - 82
3. No.12- 80
4. No.4 - 78
5. No.6 - 76
6. No.10- 75
Add ins for any scratchings are No.1 & No.5.
Recommended Bet: $50 win No.12 Egg Tart
Precedent: No.3 It's Somewhat.

ATC St.Leger.

1. No.1 - 80
2. No.3 - 78
3. No.10- 76
4. No.4 - 75
5. No.8 - 74
6. No.5 - 73
Add ins for any scratchings are No.9 & No.7.
Recommended Bet: $50 win No.4 Libran
Precedent: No.8 Sikandarabad

6. No.5 - 75
Add ins for any scratchings are No.14 & No.6.
Recommended Bet: $20 win = $30 Place No.5 Sylpheed

2. No.3 - 84
3. No.13- 82
4. No.11- 79
5. No.4 - 77
6. No.9 - 76
Add ins for any scratchings are No.10 & No.12.
Recommended Bet: $50 win No.13 Snitty Kitty
Precedent: No.2 Voodoo Lad

1000 Guineas.

1. No.5 Smart Melody - 84. Only doubt is the mile. Drawn well, won well last start and can sit forward, should get all favors.
2. No.2 Fiesta - 84. Has been terrific all prep and is drawn to get a lovely forward run, and be right there at the finish.
3. No.1 El Dorado Dreaming - 84. Good effort fresh. 1600m should suit nicely, and drawn well, and gets the drop from the weight penalty. Sets up nicely here and is the one to beat.
4. No.4 Thrillster - 79. Just below the top raters, but she is genuine and a definite top four hope.
5. No.12 Tahitian Dancer - 78. Good run behind two quality fillies last time out. Up to 1600 should suit and if the two favs get into trouble, she has the ability to take advantage.
6. No.7 Amphitrite - 77. Won the Manifold well and backs up here. Needs to improve to win but can be competitive.
Add ins fpor any scratchings are No.8 & No.13.
Recommended Bet: $50 win No.1 El Dorado Dreaming
Precedent: No.12 Tahitian Dancer

Toorak Handicap. This is a very very good quality field.

1. No.2 Jungle Cat - 87. I personally feel his 1400m form is superior, but his win was good last start and at least we know he has settled in well. He will give you a good sight.
2. No.1 Hartnell - 85. Comes in on a similar rating map to Tosen Stardom last year. Good win against quality opponents last start and only needs luck late to be in the finish.
3. No.4 Shillelagh - 84. Not far off Hartnell last time. Meets him slightly better at the weights, and if she can get a clear run in the straight, she can get over the top of them.
4. No.11 Seige Of Quebec - 79. Thought his run in the Epsom was very creditable. Up a little in weight, but his a big strong galloper so that should not worry, Caulfield suits nicely and if he can sit forward he can offer a good kick at the 200m.
5. No.5 Land Of Plenty - 79. This is his right distance, but that barrier makes things difficult. If we can get a Damien Lane special, and he gets a clear run at thm in the last 300m, he can win.
6. No.10 Noire - 77. I know the stable are unsure whether she can run a strong mile at group 1 level, but her last start win was good, where shedefeated Youngstar, who has come out and run into Winx at her next start. She is drawn to do no work early and has got a good finish when allowed.
Add ins for the scratchings are No.6 & No.13.
Recommended Bet: $20 win + $30 place No.11 Seige Of Quebec
Precedent: No.5 Land Of Plenty.

Caulfield Stakes. This is a good race!

1. No.7 Blair House - 87. Looked unlucky at the 1800m last start. Has obviously settled in nicely and drawn to stay out of trouble this time. Good overs.
2. No.1 Benbatl - 84. If we knew he had settled in he would be a clear top rater. Drawn to be in the race from the start and can see him being a definite top four hope.
3. No.6 Homesman - 83. Going well, and his Underwood win was strong, defeating a quality galloper. The barrier is problematic, but if he can get the right run, he can make it two in a row.
4. No.10 D'Argento - 81. His run lat time out was good, but he steps up in grade here, and goes to wfa. His form this time in has ben good, but to be a winning hope here, he would need to improve out to the 2000m.
5. No.3 Tosen Basil - 80. Might be looking for the 2400m now, but his clas will crry him a long way. High class, quality galloper who can easily win here.
6. No.5 The CliffofMoher - 80. If I knew he was being aimed at the Cox Plate, instead of a cup, I would have him higher. Just woried that this might be a run to get him fully fit, and if you are not at peak fitness here, you will not win.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.12 & No.2.
Recommended Bet: $20 win No.1 Benbatl
                 $30 win No.7 Blair House
Precedent: No.3 Tosen Basil

Caulfield Guineas.

1. No.1 The Autumn Sun - 90. Only query is the track, as he is a long strider, and they can come undone here. If all things equal, he wins, but that does not always happen in this race.
2. No.4 Leonardo Da Hinchi - 85. Form is terrific. The form from the Stutt has not stood up yet, but eh won, he will sit forard, and the 1600m should be not trouble.
3. No.2 Native Soldier - 85. His two wins at Caulfield this prep have been terrific. Reminds me of Starspangledebanner coming into the guineas, and has drawn to get every chance to it forward and give a good kick off the turn. Will give them something to catch.
4. No.11 Tavisan - 82. Thought his effort at MV was excellent, then in the Danehill he ran well facing the breeze and comes into the race after a good second in the prelude. Maps nicely for this and just needs to get to a good spot early to be a winning chance.
5. No.8 Good N Fast - 79. Probably a lengh or two ff Leonardo Da Hinchi, but he looks like he is looking for the 1600m. Awkward draw, but if can sit wide with cover and get a clear run in the last 200m he can rush in to the top four.
6. No.15 Oohood - 79. Should get a good run. Not sure Caulfiel gives her her chance to win (if it was Flemington she would be in the top 3 raters), but the form from the Flight has already stood up so she has to be somewhere in the finish.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.6 & No.9 (this horse is a quality galloper and if he won, it would not surprise!)
Recommended Bet: $30 win No.1 The Autumn Sun
                 $5 each way No.8 Good N Fast
                 $5 each way No.9 Vassilator
Precedent: No.11 Tavisan

Herbert Power Stakes. Please Note this race has a numerous number of overseas form lines, so this race is influenced on how these horses have settled in.

1. No.2 - 83
2. No.6 - 81
3. No.8 - 79
4. No.7 - 78
5. No.1 - 76
6. No.15- 73
Add ins for any scratchings are No.9 & No.14.
Recommended Bet: $20 win + $30 Place No.2 A Prince Of Arran.
Precedent: No.10 Odeon

Good luck, and lots of success for everyone!

Okay here is the analysis for the first of the big ones for the spring.

CAULFIELD CUP.

No.1. Best Solution - 85. The only two points are Caulfield and whether he has settled in from his trip. Form is the best in the field.
No.2. The CliffsofMoher - 87. His 2000m form is outstanding. His few 2400m runs have been at the top level including a 6.5 length 8th in the Breeders Cup Turf. That is good enough to win here, and his run last week was a really really, good trial for this race. Drawn well and should do no work early. Aidan O'Brien always sticks with plan a and so this race has been on the radar for this galloper all season. Top hope.
No.3. Chestnut Coat - 80. Form is quite good. Usually has races spaced, but he is coming off his longest break for a while. His prep suggests that the Melbourne Cup is the target, but his form says he is a hope here at the 2400m. Should get into a spot where the jockey can do what he wants, and if he has a clear run late, he can win.
No.4 Jon Snow - 82. Looks to be going just as well this year as he was last. Comes in off the wfa path, and his run in the Turnbull as a pass mark, as it looked like KWD would beat him by a good space but he only beat him by a length. Top four hope if he gets a soft run early.
No.5 Sound Check - 85. Very very intriguing German import, now with Micheal Moroney. His last run was a cracker against Best Solution and he meets him 2 kilos better from the run, his form before that was good, including a good win at group 2 level. Draw is a concern, and the signs are he has settled in well, but always a doubt. On his form he is a definite place chance.
No.6 Ace High - 87. His only doubt for me is Caulfield, but over the 2400m it is not that disadvantageous. His form this time in is good, drawn to get a lovely run and no disrespect to Tye Angland, but if you could call up a replacement rider, then Oliver is the guy. Right in this up to his ears.
No.7 The Taj Mahal - 79. I do not have any doubt his form is okay, but for me he needs to improve off his last run. The talk is he will go forward from the wide gate, and if that is the case he has no chance.
No.8 Duretto - 82. Has good form around Best Solution and Marmelo who we know. From the form I have analysed, it seems to me that Flemington's 3200m will be beyond him, so I am convinced he is being set for this. If he has settled in, he has drawn well to put himself in the race, and he has a jockey who can give him every chance. Looks overs to me.
No.9 Red Verdon - 78. It looks to me as though he is a work in progress, and maybe next year might be his best prep. Has been competitive against similar opposition. Is better weighted here, but for mine he needs to improve.
No.10 Venguer Masque - 74. He is a good quality stayer, but this is a high grade field, and he will need a career best to win. I also think the 3200 at Flemington will better suit.
No.11 Ventura Storm - 72. One of my top raters in this race last year off a runner up run behind Winx. Performance in this race was as good this year, but this is a far superior field than what he met in 2017, so will need to improve significantly to even finish top four here.
No.12 Mighty Boss - 69. Thought his run in the Naturalism was satisfactory, then he met the Turnbull field and there were about four better runs than his. I think he has ability, but on his current form over the last 12 months, he is amongst the also rans.
No.13 Homesman - 82. His wfa form had been good, before over racing and not settling with a slow early speed last time out. Drawn to sit forward, and do no work early, has run well gainst a high quality stayer in Almandin and likes the track. Drops well in weight and is one of the better local hopes.
No.14 Kings Will Dream - 87. No doubt he is mapping nicely into the race. Nicely weighted, drawn well and ticks all the boxes. For me he needs everything to go right, to win, but definite place hope.
No.15 Sole Impact - 75. Has run behind Chestnut Coat and Tosen Basil, but for me, he needs to improve on his current form.
No.16 Gallic Chieftain - 81. If this was a standard grade Caulfield Cup, I would have him in my top four. His last two runs have been good lead ins to this. Flashed late to just miss The Taj Mahal at Moonee Valley, and then obviously behind a awesome winner, but was flying late behind Yucatan in the Herbert Power. I know he is over 10 times the price, but if he was to beat the stablemate favourite home, it would not surprise me!
No.17 Nights Watch - 76. Again if this was a standard cup then he would have a good top four hope. This years field is full of quality and for mine he will do well to finish in the first half of the field.
No.18 Youngstar - 85. Cracking run behind her majesty at Flemington. Has a light weight, is a absolute 2400m horse, drawn to do no work early and have a last crack at them late. Jockey is in cracking form and she ticks all the boxes except for Caulfield.
No.19 Patrick Erin - 79. Thought Brimham Rocks showed last week the Metrop form is good, but again he meets a high class field here, so he will need a career best effort here.
No.20 Jaameh - 79. Good run last time out in the Bart Cummings. Will eat up the fast speed we usually get here, and has drawn well enough to get a nice run. Has last years winning jockey aboard, and if he gets a run, he could surprise.

After all that here are the top six.

1. No.2 My CliffsofMoher - 87
2. No.6 Ace High - 87
3. No.14 Kings Will Dream - 87
4. No.5 Sound Check - 85
5. No.1 Best Solution - 85
6. No.18 Youngstar - 85
Add ins for any scratchings are No.13 & No.8.
Recommended Bet: $30 win No.2 My CliffsofMoher
$10 each way No.5 Sound Check
Precedent: No.16 Gallic Chieftain

Good luck and lots of success for everyone!

Manikato Stakes. This meeting is a waste of time!

1. No.10 Houtzen - 89. Is going well this prep. Ran into some bad luck last run, after a record breaking effort first up. The 1200m suits and drawn to sit forward off a suspected fast tempo. The one to beat!
2. No.1 Brave Smash - 87. Just forget he was in Sydney. Effort in the Moir was okay, but the 1200m will suit better. The best of the closers here.
3. No.14 Sunlight - 80. Not sure the form is good enough, but she gets in with the lighter weight than she has been carrying. Her only run at wfa was not her best effort, but she has been running well since.
4. No.2 Kementari - 79. Has had an up and down prep. Coming off a small break here, and freshened up for this. I still think he will need everything to fall in place, but is capable of winning.
5. No.6 Spirit Of Valour - 77. His last run was good enough to win here. Up from 1100m of the Schillaci, and if he had drawn a better gate, he would be higher rated.
6. No.4 Voodoo Lad - 76. Has had numerous chances at group 1 level and I can not see him winning, but as usual he has a top four hope.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.8 & No.5.
Recommended Bet: $50 Win No.10 Houtzen
Precedent: No.5 Jungle Edge

Cox Plate.

No.1 - Benbatl - 85. Top win last time out. Obviously has travled and settled in well, so if he getsthe right run he is a definite place lock.
No.2 - Humidor - 80. Good effort last time out, but he needs a career best here to even place.
No.3 - Kings Will Dream - 82. I think he is suited here. If there is any speed at all, he can run on hard.
No.4 - Avilius - 80. Has not been at wfa yet, but has been carrying big weights, running good times and the 2040 is no risk.
No.5 - D'Argento - 80. Going well, but on his run at Caulfield he is a little off the speed at 2000m.
No.6 - Winx - 100. Let's get it over with!
No.7 - Rostopovich - 78. Can not really line his form up, as it is mainly against fellow 3yo's. Good run behind Latrobe in the Irish Derby, but that was 2400m. If it becomes a real stamina test he could run top four.
No.8 - Savvy Coup - 76. Coming through the NZ wfa form, which looks two levels down from this. Her own performances are good, but she is steeping up to the top level here.

Ratings.
1. No.6 Winx - 100
2. No.1 Benbatl - 85
3. No.3 Kings Will Dream - 82
4. No.4 Avilius - 80
5. No.2 Humidor - 80
6. No.5 D'Argento - 80.
Add ins for any scratchings are No.7 & No.8.
Recommended Bet: $50 Place No.3 Kings Will Dream
Precedent: No.2 Humidor

Good luck and lots of success for everyone!

Hey Voyager. Thanks for the time you put into posting your ratings. Enjoy looking through them. Can you explain what you mean by "precedent". Cheers.

No problem Rhino.

The precedent is a selection in each race, which is found by looking at the last ten years of results of each race.

So, if we look at the Cox Plate this year, here is how we found Humidor.

While three Caulfield Stakes winners, have done the double So You Think, Ocean Park and Winx, the precedent is not a true guide as SYT and Winx are the two best middle distance wfa horses in the last decade so, the precedent is corrupted. This reference eliminated Benbatl as a winning hope.

The NZ mare had no precedent form lines what so ever, so she was eliminated as a winning hope.

Rostopovich, has Adelaide as a precedent reference, but that was a anomaly, not an actual precedent, so that eliminated him as a winning hope.

Avilius again, had no reference coming through the Bart Cummings, which means that no Bart Cummings runner has placed in the Cox Plate, so he was a non-selection.

Winx is the only Turnbull winner to win the double, last year, in the last decade, so no precedent there.

D'Argento coming through the Epsom had a precedent in Pinker Pinker and others but his run in the Caulfield Stakes was the reason he was left out.

That left us with KWD and Humidor. Now KWD has a couple of precedents with Humidor last year coming back from the Caulfield Cup, so he was close especially with his WFA form before the cup run.

But Humidor comes through the Cauflield Stakes. Now if you take SYT and Winx, out, you still have horses like Ocean Park, Criterion and Happy Trails, coming through that particular race, who either won and or placed. With Benbatl being not having had the prep of coming through the spring wfa races, Humidor having won the PB Lawrence and run third at Caulfield was the selection.

If there was a three year old who had finished top five, but not won the either guineas, then they would have been the choice as Shamus Award, Pierro and So You Think when he was three year old, along with Manhattan Rain, provide a strong reference for the 3yo's.
