Zebedee looks a pretty plain type for mine - I know it's always harder to distinguish with greys but he doesn't look anything outstanding physically.

His record speaks for itself both on the track and his first racing crop as well, plus he should match up well with Danehill lines

I'm sure SA breeders wanting a 2yo will flock to him, there aren't that many 2yo stallions over that way
for those about to punt, we salute you...

$17k seems fair enough given his start in Europe. Plenty that cost far more who are unproven commodities.

Priced around 12k I think Zebedee could have attracted a book of 90 - 100 mares which would be a considerable effort for a sire in SA.

He will still attract mares from interstate but he's going to have lost some admirers in the breed to race category. Grey sires will always be a hard sell though, the asian market doesn't really want grey foals.
Now having passed 1000 posts I feel you are all so much the wiser for my having said... stuff!

Brad I agree with you 100% I think canny lad has something to do with why he is going so well. I think Zeb will not be as successful and is overpriced

^ that is a +1 from me as well.

They missed a good opportunity to price Zebdee to gain max traction.

Timeform of 128 good but not as high or as well performed as Dawn Approach.

Do alright Whitto.  Remember Star Kingdom was a sprinter from England/Ireland.  A little neddy by the name of Lunchtime was pretty fast as well.  Thanks to him we have Snippets and Pins etc.  And don't forget that Danehill was also an English raced sprinter.

Cheers Whitto, after looking at those numbers you would have to question the investment on service given the difference in prizemoney per runner.

Did I say the second horse was five lengths behind.  Oh it also seems that he may be coming to Australia in November.

Interesting, but doesn't mean he will stack up here, Singapore racing is fairly poor really.

Not knocking I am Invincible but apart from Brazen Beau he really needs to back him up with a quality runner. I know he has had a few  Listed winners and gets winners at a decent strike rate but I would not like to be sending a mare to him this season at 55k. No doubt he will get better quality mares from here on but those that punted him earlier may have taken most of the cream. That said he does sell well and the market has taken to him and I do hope Yarraman can continue on with his success.

I agree with all the comments in the post above but especially the hope that IAI and Yarraman do have continued success.
However I have an added caution regarding the hope provided by "better mares" of recent times. Ive sent a mare to two different stallions (Flying Spur and Dane Shadow) following them having "served their best ever books of mares in previous seasons". However the promised tidal wave of success from those better mares never eventuated and results for both stallions dropped off rather than improved.
So having tried and failed twice I'm no longer a subscriber to the "better book of mares" theory or hope.
Likewise I used to be a fan of the "proven sire" theory but having also been burnt sending a mare to Quest for Fame who then immediately stopped producing stakes winners I no longer subscribe to that theory either.
I'm aware that both might be a result of my bad luck rather than a problem with the theories. But I'm done with them regardless..

An oft used quote of Ken McLeans' is that dominant sires improve the lesser grade mares but ones the harem is upgraded, those mares tend to lessen his domination. Classic example of Kens' is Biscay who stated off similarly to IAI.

He'll have started getting better bloodlines and mares with better strike rates of producing winners and blacktype, you would think he'll only improve with time, but obviously it isn't guaranteed.

Just like when a mare throws a very good horse from a bread and butter stallion, next thing you know their going to redoutes, fastnet, streety cry etc for seasons on end, and don't provide horses that were that much better then their previous stock, and any fillies that aren't any good will just go to stud unraced.

had a close look at the bloodlines of the mares that have been sent to him and I get the impression that the bloodlines that work best with him are mares with Grey Flight like Gilded Time, Snippets and Snaadee. duplicating Biscay and Danzig might be good too.
Also I believe that the best clues you can get on what bloodlines would be successful with a stallion most often is reflected in the stallions dam line so Lonhro and Secret Savings (both also have Grey flight), Zoffany, Halo and Nijinsky too would likely be good match for him.
would be interesting to see how many Lonhro and more than ready mares he gets in the future and their performance results

Am i mistaken that Lonhro has been pretty poor as a broodmare sire?
