Have you ever watched the barrier attendant in Melb. with the long blonde pony tail. He has to be the most efficent barrier bloke I have ever seen, a real professional and obviously loves his job.

Well far be it for us to question the opinion of such an authority as Braindead Fred.

If true, you would imagine he would be without a job.  Racing industry is full of unsubstantiated rumours which can have devastating effects of a person's career.

This bloke is an absolute work horse. If there are 12 horses in a field he would have a hand in loading around 8 of the runners.

Anyone know what he does during the week, whatever it is he would do it well too.

See him at the barriers almost everyday--might be his full time job

Phantom, Just like some people, some horses are bullies.  I have always found that treating a horse with respect gets respect.    If a horse belts you in the head repeatedly (underlined) sometimes you need to give it a taste of its own medicine.  Obviously this particular horse was giving Eli a real hard time.  Couldn't have hit him too hard though, cause it didn't stop him racing

That blonde guy is about as good as a barrier attendant can get.

Pretty hard to miss him too. He does stand out.

I agree jayzaa, some horses are just too spoilt and need extra attention.

interesting this post popped up !  we were only watching him yesterday and saying how he always seems to be there, at all the tracks, but maybe not ?  does he just work the city tracks in melb, and is it a full time thing ?  the ponytail makes him stand out !!  bit old fashioned,,how old would he be ?

There are 90 registered and accredited barrier attendants in Victoria, who work as 'teams' at different venues around the state. I think they work under a company.

They come under the same licencing regulations as other registered people and are subject to a no betting rule where they are working. Some were found to be betting recently and warned and counselled by integrity services
