He did the same on Sistine angel in the 1000 guineas. I can never catch this jock. That was horrible.

I'd have gone forward to take the lead and then hold them up to save some gas. They weren't going hard so it wouldn't have hurt BP much either and she fought on gamely at the end of the race to show she could have handled it.

My form expert mate says he's the best jock in Australia. I kill myself laughing at that. He is like the little girl with the curl. Either very, very good or horrid. Today was horrid.

He always got a bit far back on Moudre in the spring and didn't seem to learn. Lisa Cropp outmuscled him in a driving finish on ? I can't remember the name of the horse? I think it was in the SAAB Quality during the carnival a couple of years ago. It was interesting to watch their contrasting styles. Today on Brazilian Pulse he kissed his hand and rubbed it on her neck! What is all that about? However he comes across as very honest.

all valid points here! another ride that comes to mind..is dao dao in the emirates, was no better then 5 wide the trip
he always seems happy to cover ground, and sit wide.
any jockey that has little teddy bears in his race boots before each race, has to be questioned about how much guts hes made of.
d hayes made the right move by sacking him

The saving grace is that the horse did settle and comfortably without cover.
Restrain and try to get in and she might've been through the bridle. Push on and no hope.
I'm of the opinion the owners wouldn't have been too worried, particularly backing up as she did, and that the run will have tuned her perfectly for an Oaks success.

I actually thought he had ample opportunity to push on and lead. They were walking early and she has tactical speed.
The instructions were to find cover but he needed to use his instinct and ride the race as it presented.

He should've went forward and sat outside the lead, but I don't think it would've beaten the winner anyway.
He's not the best jock around, but not the worst either. Certainly riding a lot more winners now that he is free from Hayes.

Stick with her for the Derby. I know the camp and that was just a set up for a bigger price. |

owners must be worried about her winning oaks now as this run was such a gutbuster

One thing about you goofs you dont just pick on low profile jockeys ,give you a few points for that.
Williams has the 2nd best strike rate amongst Melbournes leading jockeys . The only one ahead of him is Luke Nolan who rides for Peter Moody who is way ahead of every other trainer for wins. There are non so great as the riders in the stand , with the benefit of hindsight they know exactly what every jockey should have done . Wake up goofs , the jockey makes what he thinks is the best decision at the time , sometimes as the race unfolds that decision does not work out to be a good one. I remember a rider trailing behind the leaders coming to the home turn, no run coming so he moved away from the rail , no sooner had he moved out and the leader shifted off the rail , a horse coming from behind got a beautiful run through and won.. The rider that moved out because there was no run coming said to me '' i rode that terrible i should of stayed there i would have won '' I said '' no you didnt ride it terrible ,you had no idea the leader was going to move away from the rail '' Hindsight ,wonderful. |

My form expert mate, who is Williams biggest fan, told me yesterday they were two of the worst rides he has seen. Base ride was worse than BP. If HE said it they must have been crook.

rubbish. bloke made the right decison in heat of battle. seen horses win deep before and williams give it nice quiet ride albeit 3 deep. kinder ride wins but williams made good decision at the timew. one of the best and hope the goofs jump of him at their peril.

geez, give him a break ! everyone makes a mistake sometimes, even you armchair riders.
would be interesting to see how some of you would shape up with split second decisions to make with 5ookgs of galloping horse under you and all around you, reefing your arms out. williams rides good races most of the time. if he went out and goofed up every time i could see getting dirty with him, but how many of you have never made a mistake occaisonally ? |

If above jockey moved off rail to get clear run i don't consider that a terrible ride either BUT
simple no 1 golden rule don't be wide without cover in a distance race

Golden rule should be that everyone should learn that not all runners in a race can get a ground saving run near the rail . Some have to be covering more ground than others. Also out of hundreds of rides a jockey has some races that he or she has no luck in, barrier draws or the circumstances of races goes against them. All the goofs that criticise should write that out 50 times to try and get it into their thick heads.

[QUOTE=hatch] Also out of hundreds of rides a jockey has some races that he or she has no luck in
exactly one would think after 100s of rides jockeys would learn not to sit 3 wide without cover either drop back and slot in or go forward its not rocket science
good jockeys make their own luck ,Darren Beadman would never sit 3 wide without cover
