Joshua Reynolds finished 2nd beaten half a length.
Much better run, just needs ground.
Find him a 4000m race somewhere - don’t know if we have any though.

Think the jockey missed the boat. He should have taken off at about the 600m mark. I doubt the winner catches him if he does.

My namesake had the biggest wraps on him of any horse ever excluding Oscar Schindler when it came out for the Melbourne cup.

A poor last jump and not using the horses natural stamina cost Joshua Reynolds.

Joshua Reynolds sold at auction for $9,050 to Fernwood Park Pty Ltd (Eric Musgrove). Given the promise he was showing with David Hayes as a hurdler over the winter, that seems like a good buy.

He was originally purchased from the UK for $290,000 😮

How's this for missing out on a very cheap legend. In 1976 my father and I decided to go to the Adelaide yearling sales, at Wayville then, and buy a horse. We really couldn't afford much but there we sat with our catalogue amongst the much wealthier trying to pick one we could afford, we preferred a filly and looked at a couple, no let that one go. Next in the ring was this big ugly box headed chestnut colt, I quite liked him though but my father fessed up that he'd forgotten the cheque book. That's how you paid 45 years ago. We reluctantly watched as he sold for about $3600. It was Manikato, bred at Noonamah stud just 5 km up the road by Reg Concannon who was friends with my grandfather. I'm glad he ended up being trained by Bob Hoystead after Bon died, no other trainer would have had the patience to get the best out of the mighty Man. I loved him and followed him through his whole career, every clipping in the papers, never missed a race. Sadly he died way too soon in Feb 1984, on my birthday. He was an absolute legend.
And we could have had him. Oh well, that's racing.

I knew its goose was cooked when Dufficy made it his bet of the day.

Since it's bred for pure speed it won't take long to find out. Why was it so expensive anyway? General Nediyim/Whiskey Road doesn't look particularly bankable.

I missed Mount Fuji's race, geld him and give him time. I see this week Winx's little sister has been retired unraced. One of the colts in the Blue Diamond prelude was from South Australia I think. Can't remember his name but he cost $3,000 at the sales. Ran quite nicely midfield, won't take him long to earn back his sales price.

They do not exactly follow the Vincent O'Brien rule when buying these expensive horses.

Before gelding him I'd give him to one of the better trainers in the country that is more store front size than factory.

The Snowdens are lottery trainers.

Full brother goes around tmrw in Race 4 at The Farm, OMAR. Breeder retained and finished last on debut, then subsequently gelded. Personally cannot see the reason for the 2.8m, the pedigree doesn't seem to jump off the page, must have been rated a cracking type.... Seems a number of industry figures have joined forces and thought they'd buy a "cracking" type and any price.

Hello,
it's not so wildly known outside Germany. Monsun had a FB named "Mont Blanc", he was sold at a much higher price than his famous brother. Yes, he raced for several years as gelding with a handful of wins.

In his case "Molehill" had been a more fitting name, than the 'Highest Mountain in Europe'.

regards, Ticino

I liked Mark Chittick from Waikato's comment.

wtte, "I've got no idea how people put a value on horses once they go over 3 or 4 hundred thousand."

Intimating i think that real good horses get to that mark, then some go further than others based on how much human ego kicks in.

Must have been at least two competing parties to reach that opinion. Who was the underbiddder?

$2.8m my foot!

Vendor was Corumbene Stud (who retains a share), purchaser James Harron Bloodstock (who has a share) and the rest are a list of the usual suspects who race several colts every season hoping to get one, or two if lucky, that they can send to stud and make money.

Not a strong dam line so I think they had to run him up on the basis that if he did win something, they could counter the pedigree with "but he made $2.8m as a yearling".

Wink

If it it the "usual suspects" than they are probably doing alright out of it.

They are far more likely to succeed with these million dollar colts than ALL those in the 200-500 thousand range.
