Sorry DJ I meant sort of a prolific winner , maybe I backed her once for a stack , I think maybe Joe Throsby owned her but I could be way off |

Shaheen finally debuted Saturday 25th February, still as a colt.
He ran 2nd of 9 beaten 4.3 lengths, with another 4.3 lengths between him and the 3rd horse. Make of this what you will, but it appears the horse that won the race, Dortmund, set a record time in 1:16:12 over the 1300m at Beaumont Newcastle. Dortmund also ran 2nd in the expensive Magic Millions maiden in January, and his overall race record is 4 starts for 1 win and 3 seconds. That's about as much as i can talk it up for Shaheen. He earned $5,850 today, so that just leaves another $2,194,150 left to make up, and that's not accounting for his training, spelling and veterinarian expenses. |

Streets Better, a $925,000 yearling [Street Cry], also debuted at Newcastle Saturday by coincidence, he also too is still a colt.
He ran 3rd of 6 beaten 1.1 lengths, in an 1150m maiden. I initially wondered why a Street Cry would be racing in a 6 horse maiden over 1150m, but then i realized his trainer was John Sargent. |

If these colts are truly worthy of paying 900,000+ for them, they really should be kept intact for stud duty.
That Sunday Silence that Tim Martin payed 2 million for and it ended up in West Australia would have been better off at stud at the lowest end of the market. |

What were connections thinking when they paid £160,000 (AUD 290.000) for JOSHUA REYNOLDS!
Only wins in UK were in very low grade & failed miserably whenever stepped up in class over there. The Brits must be giggling when we Aussies pay massive overs for moderately performed stayers. He is Gai’s perfect replacement for MICHAELANGELO & CAFE SOCIETY |

I hope he comes good for the owners. Certainly plenty of imports prove their worth over the jumps here. But I doubt he’ll prove to be as good as Valediction |

Gai bought a very exciting So You Think 3yo colt over there late last year. Hopefully he stays a colt and builds on his upward spiral. |

Has anyone had a look at how these horses that sell for huge dollars at our best sales actually perform on track? I looked at the race in Syd last Saturday, race2 I think? 7 runners and stock costs were something like 5.5 mill?

I have not Straight, but that 2 million dollar horse, Faretti, did not look like the buyers would get their money back, because the Hawkes third placed galloper went straight past him.
He would be fine, if they paid $50,000 for winning trials! |

If Faretti keeps running like that he will need to have about 500 starts just to break even....and that’s not including the trainers fees.
Make that 600 starts to cover it. Why do they continually pay $2 mil for yearlings Absolute madness, more duds than not. |

Faretti was offered by Yarraman Park - owners of the colt and his dam and part owner of his sire. Gets knocked down to Reg Inglis together with John Kelly of Newhaven Park fame for $2m.
Colt is registered in the names of Kelly and Yarraman Park, plus two other blokes who presumably paid about $550k each if they each took 25% shares. So Yarraman is a winner whatever way you look at it, clearing about $900k on the sale and retaining a share to boot. How much John Kelly actually paid for his share is anyone's guess, however he can at least write some of the cost off as a business expense. High finance eh?

Joshua Reynolds finished last, night surprises.
Never really looked likely and looked plain in the yard. Not sure where they go from here...will keep an eye on the auction pages because that’s where he will probably end up in the near future. |

Joshua Reynolds out to 2400m on Tuesday at Bendigo
Because of the small field, he is guaranteed his first cheque since coming here. Will pick up $700 for last. |

Thanks Monty, didn't know that.
Either way Yarraman is the big winner, particularly as I've little doubt the yearling was well and truly run up.
