I thought exactly the same Djebel when I checked his pedigree straight after the race. Sire also from a champion female family (Eight Carat).

Wishing you all the best today 'p t' Smile.   This from The Age:

RACING is built on dreams. For most there is not the hoped-for ending, but for New South Wales farmer Roger Gorham an ambition that he has held dear since the death of his father 40 years ago finally came to fruition earlier this year and might have an encore at Moonee Valley today.

Gorham 53, was still in short pants when his father died of cancer, aged just 41, but Gorham senior had bred the odd harness horse and his son followed them with great interest.
Advertisement: Story continues below

One of those named Koala Frost, (sire of grand circuit champion Koala King) won the 1970 Lord Mayors Cup at Harold Park, beating Bold David as well as winning the inaugural Carousel Final, and from that time in his life Roger Gorham wanted to emulate his dad.

The trouble was that he followed him into the farming business and there was not a lot of spare cash to spend on dreams.

Gorham thought he would get around to it one day, but reality hit when his sister and brother also died of cancer within a couple of years of each other.

''It was always a dream of mine to breed a group 1 horse like dad, but I couldn't afford to,'' he said.

''But when my brother and sister died, I thought, 'quick, it doesn't matter whether you could afford to do it or not, I might be the next one to go'.''

While he might not have had the money to spend, Gorham had spent plenty of time looking through pedigrees and at stallions he might one day use.

Cost was always going to be the determining factor in his choice of stallion and mare, and after much research Gorham settled on Blue Gum Farm's Umatilla.

''He [Umatilla] had a great pedigree and has as good a stake-winners-to-runners ratio as much more expensive stallions.

''I'm just a busted-arse farmer and a $4000 stallion was what I could afford.''

However, the choice of Umatilla, a descendant of the great broodmare Best In Show, went deeper than price, because Gorham wanted to replicate the breeding of members of the Best In Show family that he had observed to be a highly successful mating. After six months of searching, he located a mare named Yours As Always from that family at an Inglis mixed sale in Melbourne in March 2006.

''I got there late the night before the sale and slept in my swag in the float. I was only there to buy the one horse and luckily I was able to get her for $5000.''

In due course Yours As Always produced a Umatilla colt, not the filly Gorham had hoped to breed on with.

As a result the colt, the first horse he had bred, was on the market and eventually headed to the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, with Gorham preparing him himself rather than using a professional yearling vendor.

''It was my hobby and I didn't see any point in handing him over to someone else to prepare for the sale.''

Buyers showed little interest in the colt and he was knocked down for just $8000 to the owners of Yours As Always' previous foal.

''I can tell you, only four people looked at him and I know that because I sat there for four days. I was gutted and thought what was the point of breeding a nice horse and getting such a pathetic price. What a stupid hobby,'' he said.

The year the colt was foaled, the plan had been to send his dam back to Umatilla, but the day before she was due to head to Victoria, equine influenza struck, meaning those plans were cancelled and she then failed to conceive to another Best In Show family stallion, Spinning World.

After the disappointing result at the yearling sale, Gorham did not bother sending his mare to stud in the next two years but kept her ''just in case''.

As the colt who was named Sincero started to show serious ability, Gorham decided to give Yours As Always another chance, but with Umatilla retired, Spinning World was again his choice.

The 19-year-old got in foal but died of natural causes this year.

Meanwhile, Sincero has won the Stradbroke Handicap and George Main Stakes and nearly $1.5 million in stakes and today will be aiming to take out the Cox Plate, with Gorham, who has never owned a racehorse, driving down to take it all in.

''It's a great thrill to have a runner and unbelievable to breed a great horse, just like my father.''

Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!

You'll probably think I'm telling a lie, BUT
I recommended / inspected him and was surprised he only made $20000.
I only looked at him and a Domesday & Royal Academy all sale
I was there to sell not buy. They should have bought my filly too.
and didn't
Gone to a champion trainer.
I am extremely pleased.

The recent announcement that the high-class Canford Cliffs will stand at Blue Gum this year is worth a mention here too, given his grandsire Taufan is a grandson of Stolen Hour, the dam of Best in Show.

A top class horse at 2,3 & 4 with great miler speed & just looking at his "side on" photos over the years, an A-Grade type I think.

And CC also has a more distant strain of Best in Show through the sire of his dam, Marju, by Last Tycoon, by Try My Best whose grand-dam was Best in Show.

SHARKBITE’S DAY AT THE BEACH

Highly promising first season sire, Sharkbite, provided the catch of the day on Sunday with an outstanding debut performance by Recife Beach in the Sky Racing World 2YO Handicap over 1000m at Wyong.
Trained by Kim Waugh (right), the flashy bay eased in betting but not in effort, racing away to score comfortably for Blake Shinn, defeating a sharp field: among them the odds on favourite, Countryman, who had run second to subsequent Group Two winner, Scandiva, at his previous start.
Not surprisingly, Waugh has a huge opinion of the youngster who is out of the Spartacus mare, Brookton Flash, a 4-time winning half sister to multiple Group One winner Sincero.
Happily for the owners – which include Kim’s husband, former test cricketer Mark Waugh – the trainer believes Recife Beach is right up to black type and, judging by the manner of his win at Wyong, it would definitely appear to be on the agenda.

Second Straight Grade I Win for Close Hatches Grandaughter of MONROE
By Frank Angst,

Photo: Barbara Weidl/EQUI-PHOTOClose Hatches rolls home to win the Cotillion Stakes.Already good, Juddmonte Farms' 3-year-old filly Close Hatches appears to be taking things to another level as summer turns to fall. The First Defence   filly registered her second straight grade I victory Saturday, Sept. 21 in the $1 million Cotillion Stakes at Parx Racing.

Favored in the 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-old fillies, Close Hatches passed Test Stakes (gr. I) winner Sweet Lulu turning for home and held off all challengers at the wire to register a 2-length win. Steve Beneto's Sweet Lulu, by Mr. Greeley, continued well to the wire to earn her first two-turn grade I placing, edging third-place finisher Street Girl by a nose. Rontos Racing Stable's Street Girl, by Street Hero, secured her first grade I placing.

Jockey Mike Smith and Close Hatches shadowed Sweet Lulu at every call as she led through a half-mile in :47.24 and six furlongs in 1:10.51. Close Hatches moved to the lead turning for home and opened a clear advantage mid-stretch on her way to her third career stakes victory and fifth win overall in seven starts.

With the victory, the Bill Mott trainee surpassed $1 million in career purse earnings at $1,007,300. For her backers Saturday, she returned $5.20 to win, $3 to place, and $2.60 to show. Sweet Lulu paid $3.80, $3.40; and Street Girl, $5.40.

Bred in Kentucky by Juddmonte-associated Millsec, Close Hatches is the first starter for the Storm Cat mare Rising Tornado

Talk about keeping it all in the family !!!

Thought they may have sent us Thewayouare from NZ as a replacement for the Blanks shooter, Spinning World.

Instead, Looks like Rubick has a job to replace Encosta DeLago

By Encosta from Redoute's "Half sister" !!

Makes him a 3/4 brother to Uncle Manhattan Rain

Lucky Raquie 2yr old filly from Redoutes "Full sister" by Encosta already 3rd in 2013 Gimcrack Stakes

Rubick and Lucky Racque are what to each other ? 1st Cousins or Brother and sister ?

Global Balance (stakewinner) in Aus is by Redoute's from Spinning World's half sister !!

Here's a couple of weaners I have:

1.By Spinning World from a Umatilla mare who's Grandmother was half sister to Aviance and 3/4 (sister in Blood) to Dancing Show.

2.By Al Maher from a Last Tycoon mare who's mother was a (3/4 sister in Blood to Dancing Show) half sister to Aviance. This mare has already produced a stakeswinner

This season:
My new purchase will be bred to Al Maher (almost a blood sister to Domesday's mother) next season. This mare has already produced a 2yr old stakes placegetter.

Streaming wins the 2013 Hollywood Starlet Streaming wins the 2013 Hollywood Starlet

Racing, by its nature, is field of competition that separates the good from the average and sifts out the very best from the “merely” good. But after passing the racecourse tests for soundness, athleticism, and courage, a racehorse’s second career as breeding stock tests a horse in different ways.

Not surprisingly, fewer good racemares succeed as producers. And even fewer top colts become top sires.

It’s the natural result of intense competition, and there are a limited number of spots at the top of the tree.

These considerations make the accomplishments of Storm Cat, Mr. Prospector, and Danzig even more remarkable. None of those top stallions received large books filled with top broodmares at the beginning of the stallion careers, but even without multiple mates of distinction, they produced stars from the start, begot champions right out of the starting gate, and their reward has been lasting renown.

In contrast, there are numerous champion racehorses who fizzled when put to stud. Despite big books and massive opportunity with premium racemares and producers, some stallions underperform. That is the inevitable result of intense competition.

And it doesn’t get any tougher than competition at the racetrack.

There are all kinds of excuses for all kinds of failure, but the racetrack is unforgiving. Whoever gets to the wire first is the winner, and if a stallion’s runners don’t get there, the party is over.

Airdrie

Given his outstanding class, perhaps the most disappointing stallion of the past few decades was Horse of the Year, classic winner, and multiple champion Spectacular Bid. A big, strong athlete who showed speed and early maturity, classic ability of a high order, and the maturity to race unbeaten through his 4-year-old season, Spectacular Bid received books of the most elite mares, and he spun out.

Further complicating the selection of mates and development of families in breeding, things have changed since the Bid covered his first book of mares in the spring of 1981.

For one thing, they don’t make books of mares that small any more. The big gray son of Bold Bidder sired about as many foals in his first five or six crops as a contemporary stallion at the top level would sire in a single crop.

The development of mega-books of mares has worked to concentrate the best mares in the books of select stallions to the detriment of “lesser” horses, but nobody knows for sure which horses will become the best sires until their stock has raced.

Therefore, more good mares go into the books of well-regarded but unproven stallions in comparison to the books of proven stallions, especially the books of those proven stallions who are just a slice under the very best.

So what’s a breeder to do?

The record of one young mare in the hands of a very capable breeder gives us a method to emulate. The winning Storm Cat mare Teeming won three of her four starts, clearly had ability, but did not earn black type.

In that regard, she was different from her famed siblings Rags to Riches (by A.P. Indy) and Jazil (Seeking the Gold), both of whom won the Belmont Stakes.

Teeming was bred by Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms in Kentucky, was sold for $1.5 million as a beautiful weanling, and is a broodmare for Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings (John Sikura) and Edward McGhee.

From her first five foals, she produced four by proven stallions A.P. Indy, Distorted Humor, Street Cry, and Smart Strike. Two are stakes winners, the A.P. Indy mare Cascading and the Smart Strike filly Streaming, and two are stakes-placed, the Distorted Humor filly Distracting and the Street Cry filly Gifting. All five are winners, and the mare has a yearling filly by Tapit and a weanling filly by Smart Strike.

The only mating that Hill ‘n’ Dale reproduced was the one to Smart Strike, and Streaming indicated one reason why with her victory on Saturday in the Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet. Now unbeaten in two starts, she is the desired outcome of mating a top sire with a talented and highly promising young mare.

The proof is in the winner’s circle.
