A little upright but not too bad. It's the same angle as the shoulder.

Body builders/sculptors etc spray on the Ol d 'Bondi Brinze' because the stage lights can mask their kale & quinoa infused muscle definition... I wonder if greys are victimised by a similar phenomenon?

Apropos of this thread, a new scientific paper was released using photogrammetry and measurement looking at Thoroughbreds as jumpers.

http://www.researchgate.net/publication/279787340_Evaluation_of_Limb_Conformation_in_Jumping_Thoroughbred_Horses

The key details for repeatability are

1) All the horses were standing squarely on flat hard surface bearing its weight equally on all four limbs. Too many of the photos on this thread have horses standing on three legs or not squarely making reproducibility of results nearly impossible.

2) They physically measured anatomical lengths on the horse in order to calibrate the photo correctly. By measuring different landmarks by tape, they can then correctly calibrate the photo to measure distances. Any other way is open to significant distortion.

It is worth looking at the photos on pages 4 and 5. If you had this type of data for about 600 yearlings with known racing outcomes you could come up with a model for prediction of outcomes but even then you might only be explaining about 20% of the picture (no pun intended!)

I'm working on an image recognition program that can classify yearling photos using a convoluted neural network. Here is the first go at it for all to take a look at.

https://www.metamind.io/classifiers/40114

All you have to do is either upload an image of a yearling in a standard pose or a link of the same.

It is a binary outcome so while it gives a percentage chance of being either elite or non-elite it will select one over the other. It isnt that well tuned as its accuracy is just a little over 70% but that is a result of sample size. You'd really like it to train on at least 1000 images. If anyone is interested here is the background of CNN's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convolutional_neural_network

Feedback most appreciated.

Thanks.
Having photos taken of a yearling tomorrow or Wednesday and will certainly give you some feed back after I access your site.  With some trepidation re elite v non-elite it must be said even given the degree of implied accuracy.  Embarrassed

You can upload any photo off the sales companies web sites by clicking on the upload button and finding the photo.

Alternatively you can enter a URL like below and click on 'classify'
