FWIW I'm mostly a "Type" man.  My belief is that the shoulder is the most important make up to a good horse.  This being the starting point.  The extension and angle of the humerous gives rise to a larger shoulder.  In turn this then generally places the blade angle at the best position to allow the foreleg to extend to its maximum.  The most efficient gait will be the quickest plane from A to B and closest to the ground.  Any angles that are out require the leg to be raised higher therefore not as efficient.
Whilst hind quarter seems to be the requirement for sprinters, I believe you still need this shoulder for maximum efficiency.  Also, the shoulder allows "pull through" rather than push.  So is equally if not more important in my eyes.
From here the wither size and length gives rise to correct conformation and should be equal height of the rump.  Otherwise again all angles are out.  It also highlights the length and depth of the chest cavity for lung capacity.
Then the proportion of rein and barrel fall into place to give the right balance.  The hind leg also then needs to be positioned correctly again to maximise power.  Muscling and condition can distort conformation a lot.

Fantastic front legs! Good muscling and short cannon bones. Good depth of girth, plenty of room for heart and lungs. Nice allround, no major faults. Better if stood up square to assess hind end, but looks strong to me.

what sort of nonsensical reply is that.

shes not a foal; shes not a weanling; she IS a yearling.

i posted because compared to a a lot she had an extra "something" at the point of the hip.

i felt it would give her extra propulsion; you know, bigger stride  length.

which, to those who know what they are looking at, comes in pretty handy.

pretty colour! go back to pony club.....

I strongly recommend we ignore Isaac Soloman in future.  He doesn't appear to appreciate, in particular, what Kimberley Mine is suggesting about immaturity and how young horses typically furnish later in the front than behind.  Nor does he respond to the hocks and pasterns comment.

No, in making the "back to the pony club" comment simply denigrates someone who's gone to the trouble of providing an opinion.  Extremely poor form.

And did you point out to km that yearling was sold for $750,000.

and i would never expect a $50000 animal to become a standing stallion.

ive had similarly bred GELDINGS achieve as much.

that is cuckoo thinking.

I will go back to pony club when certain others will go back to finishing school and PAY ATTENTION this time.

Now about that yearling.

1.  If you have two horses of similar quality pedigree, scope, x-rays, and conformation, the pretty one will almost always sell better than a plain or ugly one.  Only in the case of exceptional quality that is proven over time will buyers overlook "ugly."  Case in point: Sunday Silence hind ends, or up in North America, Dynaformer foals having suitcases for heads.  He stood for two pints and a ham sandwich in the beginning and his foals didn't sell for much more, until people realised his foals could RUN.  The fact that this horse is attractive to look at is an advantage at the sales relative to its peers.

2.  Yes, I'm aware it's a yearling.  I also stated that it's obviously immature.  A lot depends on when that photo was taken.  If it was taken at 13 months of age, that's one thing.  If that photo was taken at 18 months of age, that's a wholly different situation.  At 18 months, either it's super slow to mature or what you're looking at is close to the finished product.  Both of those are important to anyone who wants to buy this horse.

3.  Great hips are nice, and I agree that this horse has a nice hip.  That nice hip doesn't act in isolation, though.  Like I said, though, I have seen that exact posture used to hide hind end flaws.  If it's posty through the hocks, camped out, or upright in the pasterns, that will compromise its long-term soundness.   A different picture or walking video will tell if those flaws are present.

So about that posture and hind ends.

These two yearlings are up for sale at Inglis Classic.  They're by the same sire and are fairly close in age.  The dams are not closely related.  One's dam is unraced and has a nice track record of producing winners.  The other raced and won at metro level, is younger, and is similarly producing winners.

Here's horse A:

And here is Horse B:

Both horses have nice hips and good shoulders.  Both of them are immature-looking in front, although Horse B (who is the older of the two) looks like it still has a baby face whilst Horse A has a more mature head.  But the big deal comes in how they're standing.  Horse A is standing square and appears to be camped out behind.  If so, and it's not just this picture, this horse will have a more difficult time getting its legs under itself to push off and use the power of those hips.

Horse B has the spread hind legs...so it's impossible to tell if it's also camped out behind.

I agree, no good buying an untried horse with a conformation fault. Now is the time to stack the deck in your favour if possible?
Horse B is the pick, based on the premise that the other IS camped out behind, but it does have a short neck 😕
Bloodlines are important, but only in a horse that is going to have the conformation that will stand up to a race prep.

I'm with No 2 also.

However as had been stated before on here, photos can sometimes give an incorrect impression.  It's entirely possible that the apparent short neck could be misleading given the colt is pulling backand as a consequence distorting the image.

have bred nice horses, trained group and listed.

champs? no, but then neither has sc, so dont ask the question.

used scs perth trainer as a farrier, and his wife, chloe, as a jock, and track rider.

as for km, i saw her reply as a sharp criticism. And i reacted the same

And SC? well her call to arms sums her/him up.

and gay if you were in any way principled you would be admonishing km, amongst others of AS WELL.

kms critique was in no way constructive.

if you thought the colour ok

and puzzled as to whether it a yearling, or whatever km had in mind

well

i wouldnt be relying on you to choose a yearling for me!

Ok folks, here's your chance to comment on the Medaglio D'Ora - Turnstiles filly that we recently bought a small share in following its sale at the recent MM.  Clearly the second photo was taken before her yearling prep had concluded.

ps I won't get the least bitter and twistedshould you all find a series of possible faults:  Wink
