Derby on Saturday night.

Sir Dragonet Looks the one given the distance. Most of the field haven’t extended it that far.

Bangkok the danger. Big query on Madhmoon going from the mile to 2400m

Defoe (5g Dalakhani x Dulkashe, by Pivotal) came with a strong run late to win the Gp 1 Coronation Cup defeating Kew Gardens who looked likely to win when he shot clear in the home straight.

I notice Defoe has been gelded during the off season.

Interesting to note that O'Brien had Anthony Van Dyck shipped to the USA for the Breeder's Cup after a reasonable 2YO season last year where he finished 9th as the 3/1 favourite in the 2YO Juvenile Turf at the 1 mile distance.

In that same race G1 Preakness winner War Of Will finished 5th @ 25/1!!!!

Sottsass (Siyouni - Starlet's Sister, by Galileo) outstays the hot favourite Persian King to win the G1 Prix du Jockey Club. His damline traces back to a half-sister to Noalcoholic, a Gp1 winning miler who stood at stud in Australia & sired a few Group One winners such as Vitalic, Rechabite & Sober Suit.

This is what I found on another forum quoted about a month ago:

After a workout during the winter they did a scan and revealed an injury which they decided to give him 60 days. Servis said if his scan comes back clean he'll go back to the track soon and they will try and point towards one of the Turf Triple races later in the year in NY.

I was thinking a few minutes ago how much English racing always reminds me of groundhog day- same trainer- same owners- same pedigree. Which reminded me- has the Derby been run? I will check.

winner- Galileo - no surprise there
trainer- O'Brien- no suprise there
owner- Coolmore- no surprise there

But then I had a look at the field. 7 out of 13 trained by O'Brien.LOL Holy rinse and repeat! Oh, dear- that is funny.LOL

Both Phoenix Of Spain and Too Darn Hot pointing towards G1 St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot for a rematch.

As expected Battaash is targetting the G1 King's Stand Stakes on opening day.

British racing defended after Derby wipe-out

Racing’s ruling body has spoken up on behalf of the sport in Britain, following a dismal showing by the home defence in Saturday’s Derby. The first six finishers in the country’s most prestigious Flat race were all trained in Ireland and the race has been won by British-trained horses only twice in the past nine years, but the British Horseracing Authority said that could be attributed to the freakish potency of the Irish-based stallion, Galileo.

“We are seeing a period at present where the Derby is being dominated by one specific sire in the form of Galileo,” said a BHA spokesman. “However, more generally British racing remains amongst the best in the world and our trainers and the quality of their horses are not in any doubt. British trained and bred horses continue to enjoy significant success at home and abroad.”

Twelve of the 13 runners in Saturday’s Derby were descended from Galileo, while the other was closely related to him, and his dominance naturally favours the County Tipperary stable of Aidan O’Brien, whose employers own Galileo and send so many of his progeny to O’Brien. But it is not as though British breeders cannot make use of Galileo or his bloodlines; the third horse on Saturday, Japan, was bred in Britain and sold at auction in Newmarket, where O’Brien’s employers paid over £1m for him in 2017.

Charlie Liverton, chief executive of the Racehorse Owners Association, said necessary work had been in progress for five years to make the British race programme more attractive to owners who might be tempted to invest in horses bred for middle-distance and staying races, the kind who might end up in a Derby.

I am not 100% on that but I think its owned by something like our AJC/STC, or similar ?  Some mob who administer tracks and training etc.  Maybe France Gallope as they seem to be the main body. They refer to it as working in the forest.  There is an old airfield hidden in there.  Apparently during the war it was so well hidden it couldnt be seen from above. No idea how they flew out of it if that was the case ? But some old buildings are still there .  I only vaguely recall hearing this from the girl who took us out , thru almost knee deep mud, to watch work, Mikail Delzangle,s ( spelling ? ) forewoman , and between wading thru mud and trying to twig to the accent, and watch horses zoom by, I admit I cant recall the exact info. A lot around Chantilly seems to be owned by the horse mob, as there are big polo grounds just near the track, and most of it is surrounded by forest, and then you have what were the Chateau,s stables at the back of the track, now restored and is the Museum Of The Horse, which in itself if amazing and interesting. Chantilly is a bit like Newmarket and a lot seems to revolve around the horses.   You go to see either the horses or the Chateau.

Blue Point to defend G1 King's Stand at Royal Ascot.
The clash with Battaash on opening day of the meet will be one of the highlights.

Any OZ horses to try and break their dominance?

Eight days to go.

Gold Mount, who won at Royal Ascot as Primitivo in 2016, made a winning start for Ian Williams in the  Race To The Ebor Grand Cup at York.

Trained by Alan King before heading out to the riches of Hong Kong, where he was renamed, the six-year-old has the G1 Melbourne Cup as a long-term aim.

We sourced this horse for the current owner after his Ascot win and I always thought he would make a good cups horse. Got in contact with Ladbrokes yesterday morning and asked them for a price for him for the Cup. They gave me 126s which I quickly boosted to 151s and took. He is currently 51s.

GI Irish Derby @ The Curragh this weekend.

10 runners - 6 of them trained by AP O'Brien, led by G1 Epsom Derby winner Anthony Ban Dyke, and Broome (4th) (11/4). The other four are long shots, probably to make the race honest ;)

Great track, went past it last year when I was in Ireland on the way to Naas.
