A stallion star of the future.

Sensational Debut for Winx Half-Brother
Tara Madgwick - Thursday, 17 March 2016
As a half-brother to the best horse in the country, a lot is expected of two year-old colt El Divino and he kicked off his career on a winning note at Gosford on Thursday.

El DivinoEl Divino

A homebred for Fairway Thoroughbreds, the Gai Waterhouse trained Snitzel colt El Divino (images Steve Hart) was a short priced favourite for the 1000 metre maiden on the strength of two brilliant trial wins and ran up to expectation.

Partnered by James McDonald, he led throughout and kicked right away to win by more than four lengths in an utterly dominant display.

"He runs as good as he looks," said McDonald.

"He's the real deal."

Stable representative Adrian Bott indicated the Group III ATC Kindergarten Stakes at Randwick on April 2 might be a nice race for the colt.

El Divino is the second winner for stakes-winner Vegas Showgirl, whose only other foal to race is $4.1 million earner and four-time Group I winner Winx.

Segenhoe Stud as agent for Fairway Thoroughbreds will offer the full brother to El Divino at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 135.

Vegas Showgirl had no foal last year after missing to Snitzel in 2014, but is now back in foal to him again.

El Divino is the 12th two year-old winner of the season for Snitzel, who is a clear leader on the 2YO Sires List by winners.

He does for sure, sharing the dam of Winx is a no brainer.

He is line bred also which I like also. Just has to do the hard bit and win
the black type races.

Being by Snitzel I cant see the problem.

What good timing for the Easter Sales where he has a full bro going through.

What I found interesting is that he was scratched from an earlier mid-week maiden to contest this much easier event.  He ran 58.97 on a supposed H8 which was downgraded before the next race where the fillies ran 59.17.

Gai is great at producing maiden winners.  It is when the pressure is applied that the true horse emerges.

Call me a cynic if you want but I will be very interested to see what he does next time before calling him a "stallion star of the future".  Wink

Widden Secure an Interest in El Divino

Breednet - Media Release - Monday, 2 May 2016

An undefeated, Timeform Top 10 Highest Rated 2yo by Australia's most commercial stallion and a half brother to the world's best racehorse!.

EL DIVINO is a superbly bred, striking young prospect and Widden Stud are thrilled to announce they've purchased an interest in the exciting 2yo colt.

Off two impressive trials victories, El Divino exploded onto the racing scene with an effortless five length debut win in sharp time prompting jockey James McDonald to state"He's the real deal this colt with a great attitude. It's like being in a Rolls Royce!"

His next outing saw him produce a courageous, determined victory in the Group III Widden Kindergarten Stakes on Day 1 of the Championships, leaving trainer Gai Waterhouse full of praise,"From his only two starts he's showed a unique blend of raw brilliance & determination. This is a dream colt! "

The eye-catching performances led to respected form analyst Deane Lester to declare, "my performance indicator figures suggest that El Divino would have been a top 4 contender in the Golden Slipper. I have a very high opinion of this colt. "

Bred & raced by successful owner/breeder John Camilleri of Fairway Thoroughbreds, expectations were naturally high of the Snitzel colt given the exploits of his older half sister.

"We knew how special Winx was so it was always going to be difficult parting with this colt. He is stunning type with great presence and a good attitude and he has already developed physically into a very powerful racehorse. I'm so proud to have bred him.

"His future is all before him and to have Widden join us in recognising his potential as a racehorse & future Stallion is particularly pleasing. Widden have a remarkable record of launching Stallions and I did note that two of this decade's most successful sires, Sebring & Northern Meteor, were both trained by Gai who went on to become champion young sires at Widden ."

Fairway Thoroughbreds will retain a majority interest in El Divino and as Camilleri explains, the future is one of great upside, "Winx has shown us that this is a family that can improve rapidly at three so what El Divino has done already is incredibly exciting. I know Gai feels we only saw a brief glimpse in the autumn of what this horse is capable of."

It is this belief that saw the Waterhouse stable go to a sale-topping $2.3million to secure the full brother to El Divino at the recent Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

A spring program will be soon mapped out for El Divino with races like the Group 1 Golden Rose and Coolmore Stud Stakes appealing as potential targets.

He beat absolutely nothing on debut and Astern would have beaten him with a better run in transit.

I agree hes over rated, but Astern is a good horse and had a fairly large fitness edge on him.

His race record is not that bad to warrant ditching the trainer.

Expect for the fact that that trainer is Waterhouse. Sick

Just about any horse transfer away from her is a good idea.

And the fact they've gone with Weir is even better, he seems to be getting a LOT of potential stallions transferred to him, looking for group wins.
