yes mate - they are looking to pay off the purchase within 3-4 years if possible.

Mainly referring to those sending a mare, trying to pay down , when there are stallions at that price with a strike rate of over 60% runners to winners that would offer a better established chance to breed a decent horse for those buying , I suppose that doesn't matter at times at the commercial end , you either stuff up a mare's commercial appeal with risky matings or chip away with a long term goal to build her a decent cv , with less risky established sires . In the end it is an investment and people make their own decisions .

His 2 stakes wins were lower level handicaps and he carried the minimum. His half brother won the Caulfield Guineas but he hardly set the world on fire in his WFA races in the Autumn.

There is nothing to stamp him as a $20k stallion other than misguided hype. For less money you can get into Testa Rossa, Charge Forward and Reset.

If Sepoy fails to live up to expectations at stud does that make Deep Field more of a risk as a stallion given his
Broodmare sire is Elusive Quality?

Deep Field is already at pretty much maximum risk. Did nothing on the track to support his service fee.

Was he syndicated?  If so shareholders are most likely entitled to have two mares covered in each of his first two or three seasons at stud, thus boosting his numbers considerably.

44k. No idea how they can double his fee when his results have been pretty average? He got a massive book of pretty good mares. Progeny trained by good trainers and hes 5th on the First Season sires list.

Yes.  And I believe he'll prove more successful than Brazen Beau, Rubick and Bettter Than Ready.

However that's just my opinion alone.

Wow, fair enough, each to their own. I can't see it and wouldn't go for more than 10-15, but good luck to you if you support him, hope he kicks on.

I don't think any of this seasons first season sires have done well besides Better Than Ready. Rubick and Deep Field both got mammoth books and good mares and have disappointed. Brazen Beau I think is way over rated, has had 2 above average horses and they sold like hot cakes off it.

Just remember prize money increases every year. Last year Zoustar finished as leading sire with 3.2 million in earnings - a great result. His fee was 66k from memory. Spirit of Boom finished with 2 million in earnings, he was raised to 55k which most people agreed was overpriced, but he got a full book.

I personally don't see how a horse like Deep Field, with the numbers he got can justify doubling his fee when he looks likely to finish the season with about 1.2m in earnings.

All those others are cashing in too.

Rubick from 17.6 to 38.5, BTR from 9.0 to 33, Brazen Beau 38.5 to 49.5.  Embarrassed

It’s just to appease share holders. Wouldn’t dream of going to him for $44,000 as they’d need to improve into their 3yo year. Calling him one of the leading sires of 2yo stakes winners is just fanciful as most of the winners have not been town class.

Deep Field's full brother won at Gp 1 level over 1600m, and Deep Field himself raced raced successfully as a 4yo so can't see why his stock shouldn't race on as older horses and possibly over a little bit of ground.

I’m with Second Chance re Deep Field.
To date 26 runners for 10 winners and 2 stakes winners is very promising start for a stallion at his stage. I thought some of his non-stakeswinner have shown great potential to be high quality runners also.
The large numbers that he served are irrelevant at this stage because we can only judge him on the 26 runners he’s had so far. I’ve heard the Hawkes stable have 8-9 of them and think they are all 3yr olds rather than 2 yr olds.
I have been considering between Deep Field, Kementari and Pierata for a mare of ours. Deep Field had been my favourite until the $44k was announced. Now waiting to see the price for Pierata and looking harder at Kementari as the $33k doesn’t seem so ridiculously high now that other stallion fees have been released.

One of Deep Field”s winners that I referred to above as showing great potential is running tomorrow in Race 5 at Eagle Farm. Name is Deep Sea. I don’t remember another horse doing so much wrong in its first start and still winning easily.

If he’s learnt anything from his first start he should provide his sire with a very good chance of having his 3rd stakeswinner tomorrow from less than 30 runners👍.

DF was pure speed, but very lightly raced. Connections told me he started late as was kicked in stifle after trackwork and there was doubt about him making it to the track at all. Grey area around retirement, too colty and didn’t want to geld him? Or wasn’t performing reliably and didn’t want to burst the bubble?
Guess we’ll never know but the blood, speed and powerful type were there in spades.
Presented and paraded well at stallion parades
Have a mare foaling in Oct, 🤞

120 spots but oversubscribed with 300 noms this season. So the price rise to $44k hasn’t scared many off. Is currently producing winners at a very encouraging rate

So he should from mare opportunity and number of first crop foals alone.  190.  34 r    14 w
At this stage with that sort of opportunity I don't think he is doing anything special. His achievement profile is very similar to  Your Song
Now before anybody gets upset and thinks this is a knock. It is not. It is just my assessment of a handy sire at this stage. Happy to be proved wrong in the next 12 months
