Racing Victoria stewards confirmed on Tuesday that a horse trained by Craig Widdison has returned a positive swab from a metropolitan meeting last week.

Stewards received a report from Racing Analytical Services Limited which had detected an elevated bi-carb (TCO2) reading from five-year-old gelding Cash Crisis before finishing sixth in a Benchmark 70 handicap over 1300 metres at Sandown Lakeside on February 6.

RASL reported that the blood sample was shown to contain a total carbon dioxide (TCO2) at concentration in excess of 36.0 millimoles per litre in plasma and therefore a prohibited substance in accordance with the Australian Rules of Racing.

The Racing Science Centre also reported that the blood sample was shown to contain a total carbon dioxide (TCO2) at concentration in excess of 36.0 millimoles per litre in plasma within the reserve portion of the blood sample.

Stewards informed Widdison of the confirmatory findings on Monday and will be continuing their investigation.

In a week where the you know what hit the fan you’d think they’d be a bit smarter

I actually black booked Cash Crisis on its run last week as it was a ripper for a bush class horse that came to the city.
Now we can guess why

From Racenet
RV Stewards investigating Sandown swab sample.
Racing Victoria stewards are investigating the results of a swab sample taken from a Craig Widdison-trained runner last week.

RV Stewards have confirmed a pre-race blood sample taken from Cash Crisis prior to the gelding running in the Highways Lunar New Year Handicap over 1300m at Sandown February 6 contained carbon dioxide (TCO2) in excess of the threshold limit of 36.0 millimoles per litre in plasma, making it a prohibited substance in accordance with the Australian Rules of Racing.

Cash Crisis ($61) finished sixth in the race behind Bravo Tango.

Widdison has been informed of the findings and Stewards are continuing their investigation.

Agree 100% is long as the pinups are treated in the same manner and stable staff are not blamed.
