As revealed yesterday on it’s now announced Japanese mare Lys Gracieux has received special dispensation from government/quarantine authorities to travel to Australia and compete in Cox Plate. Connections of mare have accepted invite overnight.

If the 180 day rule is too long it should be changed, for all. It makes no sense to change it for one horse. Is there a sound scientific reason why she is less of a biosecurity hazard than any othe horse that has been to HK?

She still wouldn't have beaten Winx. Will miss her, spring racing isn't the same without the mighty one. Mind you with a boyfriend like I am Invincible waiting for me I'd retire too. Go Winxy.

It's a weak era for middle distance racing in Australia.
Australian racing is only good up to 1400m in terms of world standards when it comes to depth/quality in numbers

Anyone give the kiwi Melody Belle a chance? She's won the NZ WFA triple crown and is unbeaten over a mile or further since her 10th in the JJ Atkins in Brisbane, yes I know not to get excited about the Kiwi form but nothing over here should worry her to much and she looks like being the best thing out of the Shaky Isles at least since Ocean Park.

Danzdanzdance's efforts over here worry me however as a form link.

Dalasan and Avilius are the best two horses in the race by quite some distance.

After Dalasan wins the Caulfield Guineas by 3 lengths this coming Saturday, he will be a deserved, $4 favourite for the Cox Plate...

A 3yo colt or gelding will do best of the locals and it will be racing today.

More likely to be racing at Randwick than Caulfield is my thinking now but if Dalasan does win impressively I may change my mind.

Cape Of Good Hope...first run in Australia and wins Caulfield Stakes. Only had ONE stakes win in Europe...at Listed level. Now is a Group 1 winner in Australia by winning the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes. That's how strong European racing is at 2000m onwards...they have depth.

Jamal, the race was going to be won by a G3 international horse by weight of numbers. 6 of 9 runners were overseas horses including favourite.
The 3 full on locals were 2 WA horses incl 9yo Bart and the out of form, after injury, Humidor.

Cape of Good Hope on other hand is 3yo NH and his run 4 back in France was great in a hot race that is way up with best European form. His next 3 runs were ordinary and that is what turned me off but that run 4 back was good enough to win group races in Europe which he would have done in time if he got back to that form.

The Herbert power on the other hand where the majority of the field were internationally bred was won by a nzer and another local ran 3rd. We have the talent here but we lack trainers and owners with knowledge and patience.
Prejudice is an emotional attachment to ignorance.

If you like Verry Elleegant just a word of warning.

Only three horses in the last decade have won a Cox Plate by not having had the lead up run in Melbourne.

2011: Pinker Pinker who came through the Epsom

2014: Adelaide whose previous run was the Secretariat Stakes in the US

2015: Winx coming off her Epsom win.

And only three horses since 2011 have also placed after having their lead up outside Melbourne, Jimmy Choux, Highland Reel and Yankee Rose.

The same as Alligator Blood going for the Prelude Guineas double precedents do matter.

I suppose that means my tip the mare from Japan, is in trouble as well.

Fair points Voyager!

History is against her. Oaks winners also don't have a great track record.

Will have to produce a verry big effort to run top 3

Funny take
The way I see it VE got a soft 6 in Sydney and just beat a B grade horse
Good track at the Valley I wouldn’t go near her and she should be running in the Cup

Lys Graciuex should be winning as goes forward and is the best horse

Chances to Mystic Journey who will be peaking and sitting closer second go at 2000m
Te Akau shark is a wild card and my third pick

Kluger best roughie

The rest making up numbers
