Interested in a likely fee for this bloke now that he has retired to Kitchwin Hills. He appeals immediately as a genuine group sprinting son of Redoute's from a good family, being a half to two Group One winners. Damsires as Snippets and Vain certainly adds to his credentials, and third dam was Hayley's Hope.

It's not a family that has seen a great deal of salering presence so it's difficult to assess commerciality. How will he be received in the ring? Presumably his late announcement to stud will mean that he will need to be attractively priced? I'm thinking around the $8K mark but am interested in other views.

Has to be a risk given Shellscrape's offspring had no tails?

How do they assure the mare owner that the same issue won't present with this 3/4 brother?

they dont offer any assurance

foals will be born then all will be revealed..
its like saying we gaurantee they will be good racehorses

no one knows.. till we know Wink

didnt shellscrape get a few winners from memory? its a good damline

I'd be in no rush to support 'another' redoutes..
each to their own though
Now having passed 1000 posts I feel you are all so much the wiser for my having said... stuff!

Surely the tail thing is genetic & can be identified?

Is it genetic? They never got to an answer with Shellscrape, as far as I am aware. There was a suggestion it may have been a product of medication.

Counterattackwill be standing atKitchwinin 2017, and dare we say, at a fee where perhaps more first season stallions should commence their careers, $13,200.

I saw that somewhat pointed comment in the media release and inferred it was a crack at horses like Deep Field and Headwater. But he is still a fee nearly double that of, say, Bull Point, who was also twice group one placed (once being a ridiculous run in the Golden Rose), won to group 3 level and comes from a deeper family.

I thought that given his late arrival in 2017 and the Shellscrape issue they may have been a little more accommodating.

In regards to Shellscrape and his DNA variation, this was a defect that had never before been seen. Therefore a team of university vets set to source the cause of the issue, interested in its origin and causes. Subsequently hair testing his dam Kisma, and her progeny Red Tracer and Counterattack.

NO COPIES OF THE CANDIDATE DNA VARIATION ASSOCIATED WITH THE ABNORMAL TAIL CHARACTERISTIC WERE DETETECED IN ANY OTHER FAMILY MEMEBERS.

It was determined this variation in Shellscrapes DNA occurred during his conception when his Chromosomes were coming together they reacted unusually to develop this DNA variation. The team of vets finalised that this was not seen to be a hereditary variation.

Again, Both Red Tracer (Full sister to Shellscrape) and Counterattack have both tested negative to this variation, as have Red Tracers Progeny.

If anyone has any further questions, or would like a copy of the report prior to mating their mare to Counterattack, don't hesitate to contact Kitchwin Hills.

Regards

James Hetherington

Any info appreciated.

Counterattack colt at three weeks (sorry for the duplicate image). Apart from sending a mare with no white to a bay son of Redoute's and getting this result I really like him. The mare had a cracking Roman Emperor last year but this bloke is every bit as good. Just wish he would come back.

Very interesting - it is hard to know how well the German crop are doing. Thanks for the update. The chestnut colt above has now had three starts for two wins and a second.Typo
