I disagree with a fair bit of what Jane Caro says- or maybe it's just her voice that gets me offside- but I think she nails it here.
"Kids do both well and badly in all kinds of schools and if you want to see what really makes the difference, I suggest you look in the mirror. Do you have books in the house? Do you read to your kids? Are you well-educated? Is your home comfortable (not glamorous just warm, dry and safe), are meals regular and sufficient? Do you have a reasonable and dependable income that covers your expenses? Is your family relatively stable and secure with no substance abuse problems or mental health issues?" http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-02-07/school-catchments-best-public-schools-best-private/9381942 |

Teaching standards are pathetic, the curriculum has nothing to do with learning anything other than how to vilify white people, mutilate your genitals, recycle and shame and shut down anyone who doesn't.
There is not enough discipline and not enough heterosexual male influence in our education systems at every level. Jane Caro is an insufferable arrogant elitist leftard ... of course she is going to blame anyone BUT the Marxist infiltrated education system ... The only thing that is causing damage to families is the very same Socialist ideology that this hypocrite peddles, which is the goal of the Marxists! She's full of sh!t.

Yes, I went to the Italian iced confectionery shop this evening ... what's your excuse?
![]() Are you saying that the family unit is in decline, and education standards are at an all time high? ... that WOULD be a stupid conclusion!

That certainly nails it IMHO. Dont know much about the writer, but this is pretty close to the mark. Poor education and manners cant all be blamed on the school and teachers. Parents have to take some responsibility for the way their kids grow up, and stop passing the buck and making excuses when their kids are ignorant little a/holes. |

The vital ingredient she does not mention is genetics.

I went to every parent teacher night to discuss our boys with their teachers. It was a mixed bag with some teachers enthusiastic about their study and some not even knowing who the boys were. Teachers need to be assessed regularly to ensure they are up to scratch.
and give them less holidays!

Is it lower teaching standards or the kids not coping at school? Is the heterosexual male influence problem in the classroom or in the home, or absense of them in the home with escalating divorce rates? 33% of marriages end in divorce and the average duration of a shortened marriage is a little over 12 years, so as many kids are going through the transition from primary to secondary school, their parents traditional marriage is going through mostly traumatic breakdowns. Cant help

My only personal experience with teachers this century is living in the same household with one about 5 years ago. She used to leave for work- 30 minute drive- around 7.30 every morning- and get home from work around 7.30 every night, Monday though Thursday- Friday a bit earlier. She said that working those long hours left term breaks pretty much free. That's a sample size of one so doesn't prove anything one way or another but that's the only direct evidence I have. Last century I often used to see teachers in pubs and RSLs by 4pm. |

Term breaks "pretty much free?" ![]() Pity that the Union makes it impossible to sack check-in check-out teachers! They should be sacked in a heartbeat. And yes the original article is true - parents who read to their kids and maybe even discuss a little maths with them each night are as rare as hen's teeth. Parents who do it well are even rarer. Add that to the short attention spans of over-stimulated kids, quack industry illnesses, dislocated families, staff/parent politics, relativism/ me-ism as a common value system, and a curriculum crowded with lefty indoctrination that changes every 3 years... and you might touch the tip of the iceberg. "Choosing a school"? All I'd say is choose one that seems to fit you and your kid. And leave it ASAP if it's not working. So many parents waste time fighting the school or the system instead of just having the balls to change schools. 99% of them are terrible. That's why the most "successful" kids come from an out-of-school tutoring/ homeschooling background (which schools of those students are quick to claim as their success stories. ![]() |

If they are not responsible for teaching "binding and tucking", racial profiling, and all other manner of virtue signalling, but only have to teach the three R's + some science, economics, etc, and prepare for exams, AND they can discipline those who disrupt and waste class time, they can be at the RSL downing a schooner by 4:00 pm every day. Of course, the majority of the non-public Servants in the work force, work a 10-12 hour day, 5 days a week 48 weeks of the year, and don't get incremental pay rises for nothing ... SOME school teachers (not all!) can do better in the private sector, but they WILL be required to work harder than they do!

Depending how you judge the best, of course. Can't recall the name of the elite Sydney school that had rape allegations against it's best students. Teachers under scrutiny and the drug of choice was a dear white powder |

I wouldn't be a teacher for all the money you could offer...my sister is one, so is a niece...both work long hours during term and the same in "holidays"...wouldn't have time to go to the pub...the niece copped a "notorious" school and classes filled with disruptive mal-adjusted kids...neither she nor my sister are "lefties"...just your average hard-working masochists...
you have to be either very dedicated or mad to take on other people's problems... as for school itself...a waste of good learning time... ![]() |

starts with "C"...my nephew was sent there by his ambitious father who was hoping for some social contacts...the nephew was an innocent but learned the hard way about life when his best mate walked off a cliff under the influence of the "white powder"...he left soon after, thoroughly disgusted at how the "other half" lived and behaved...went to work cleaning the barnacles off pylons in the harbour...a good kid...
