I think it's a pretty fair decision. His last jumpout was an improvement. I don't mind them having a bit of time to get him 100%. Sounds like if there is one more missed start he's out for good though, which is fair enough.

Chautauqua gearing up for Flemington return

Jackson Oldham in News 30 minutes ago
  • Chautauqua cleared to jumpout at Flemington on Friday
  • Despite NSW stewards ruling that Chautauqua was banned from trialling until after Saturday, September 22, the Grey Flash has been cleared to trial at Flemington on Friday morning.

Racing Victoria’s newly-appointed chairman of stewards, Robert Cram confirmed that, in partnership with NSW chairman of stewards Marc Van Gestel, Chautauqua would be able to have an official trial at the Flemington jumpouts one day before his ban expires.

"We've had dialogue with Sydney and both parties are happy for that (trial) to take place a day early," Cram told Racing.com.
"If he nominates and goes around, we'll be there to watch him."

Co-trainer of Chautauqua Wayne Hawkes told Shane Anderson on After The Last that Chautauqua was still in Sydney.

If Chautauqua does make an appearance at the Flemington jumpouts, it is very likely to be his last attempt at jumping, following numerous failed attempts in recent months.

The path has been opened for Chautauqua to trial in Melbourne this Friday in what shapes as a final attempt to resurrect his racing career.

Racing Victoria's newly-appointed chairman of stewards, Robert Cram, confirmed on Tuesday that RV and Racing NSW had agreed that the currently-banned grey could trial at the Flemington jumpouts on Friday - one day before Racing NSW stewards had initially ruled he could be eligible to do so.

"We've had dialogue with Sydney and both parties are happy for that (trial) to take place a day early," Cram said.

"If he nominates and goes around, we'll be there to watch him."

Chautauqua's co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said on Racing.com's After The Last on Monday that connections were certain to consider sending Chautauqua from Sydney to Melbourne for the trial.

Chautauqua is on a final chance to impress stewards that he can jump suitably from the barriers after numerous failed attempts in trials and jumpouts over the past few months.

But if the former world's best sprinter comes to Melbourne and jumps from the gates to the satisfaction of stewards on Friday, he still must find a second official trial, and jump successfully, before stewards will consider passing him as a racing prospect.

Cram said the stable could apply to RV for Chautauqua to trial in between races.

"He has to pass two (trials) but there are no official trials scheduled on the calendar so there would have to be an official trial put on somewhere," Cram confirmed.

Likely to trial at Moonee Valley at a night meeting.
Will be Fri 28/9 or Fri 5/10

Similar to the ‘special race day trial’ they organised in Sydney last month

May as well bring Fleetwood Mac out too, both have gone grey and been around awhile,
not my lovely Stevie Nicks of course.

I don't blame him not liking cockroach ville , life would be so more pleasing for him away from Sydney, I'm sure that's what he said to the horse whisperer, and Wayne probably gives him his leftover hamburgers, not that that would happen a lot.

It’s a wonder he hasn’t been transferred to someone else.
I’m sure he’d love going to the beach with a smaller hands on stable.

I hope there's a few slow beginners in this "field", won't make it look so conspicuous, if he jumps I'll cop the flack gracefully lol, but if an old bushman had him would he be allowed so much leeway, I doubt it ,

i'd probably argue if a bushman had a horse with $9m in prizemoney and multiple G1's (and somehow wasn't taken off them yet) they would give just as much if not more leeway, not much more racing loves than a battler story, but that's neither here nor there :)

Takeover Target comes to mind.

The owners dont have anything to lose by having C trained in a rural setting.

But it seems, that like the horse, they are pretty stubborn.LOL

Yes I have worded it wrongly, maybe if I said " forget the name and prize money won, would a country trainer with his bush champion be given as much latitude", seeing that this has gone on longer than Blue Hills .
