Acacia, based on the leaks we heard in the few weeks leading up to this, and the wording of the charge against he and Vasil i.e. "a party to...", I suspect their charge is based on being part of the doping syndicate - that being they had prior knowledge (hi Robbie), and profited from that knowledge (had a bet). I'd suggest they were on the texts.

Who the beneficiaries are would make great reading.
Smerdy is pretty thick with a few media types.

Think of the timeline ppl- Pennuto is the one who sang first, hence his generous Raceday treatment penalty, closed RADB hearing and the reason the stewards targeted Lovani that day

The  thing of Smerdys that won the Ballarat Cup looked like it just joined in it won so easily.
Might just be coincidence.

interesting snapshot of Smerdys runners mostly drifting, some alarmingly in the betting accept for the ones that win they shorten. Love to look back at betting trends from the last 50 winners.

How do you get away with what appears to be systematic cheating for seven years? Especially a well know "punting" stable like Smerdon.

A bad look, obviously the prevention mechanisms are not good enough. At the very least penalties need to be more serve as a disincentive so that those who cheat know that whilst they may not be caught if they do the consequences will be extreme.

Good one Spinner. I can recall when I was a lad hanging around down at Epsom and Caulfield the feed merchant saying Robert Smerdon was broke and hadn't paid his bills for months. Apparently he'd had a bad run on the punt. That was almost thirty years ago. He certainly turned that situation around. You never ever want to be on a Smerdon drifter.

The Zerafa Precedent says that they are in the clear, as long as they tip it to the public - no matter how cruel the substance is to the animal. Bi-carb has got nothing on the blue wonder, so there might even be a promotion for some.

This has forever been an issue in racing and one that's very hard to prevent.  There are plenty of trainers who habitually tube horses on race day.  The only time they get caught is when they make a mistake.  Either get the dose/timing wrong and the horse shows an elevated TCO2 or they somehow get caught in the act.

The stewards have more than likely ‘known about this’ for a very long time.

Everyone has know about the Aquacheaters for a long time.

Word was the strapper/float driver was set to take the wrap and his Mrs put a stop to that. They also had drug cheat Pennuto singing like a canary.

There is a lot stewards 'know' but don't have the necessary proof to take action.  No different to police work in general society.  Talk candidly with any cop and they tell you they know who crooks are but the challenge is always getting the necessary evidence to charge and convict.

When you become habitual you also may be oblivious to the thoughts of those around you, there are also race fixing charges to throw into this mix and others dancing around legal loopholes in the cobalt fiasco, all this when you take your foot off the throat of racing.

Out of interest does anyone have a list of Moody's transgressions? He has copped it heavily from a few in here but apart from the mysterious Lidari cobalt conviction the few cases I can recall all have a reasonable explanations - particularly the ibuprofen one in Sydney which (again) has subsequently seen Dr Suann's knowledge brought into question, although unlike some of his cobalt claims in this case ibuprofen's potentially long clearance time wasn't generally understood.
