Pretty sure the practice of performance detraction is more wide spread than enhancement and much harder to detect by the authorities therefore "Hooking" will still be an avenue to create money for a variety of participants.

It’s a pot and kettle sort of industry, he’s just complaining because he’s run out of gear/his father’s reputation protecting him. So many backed in form reversals in that yard a few years back

I found it hard to keep a straight face after watching the 7.30 report. How that fat lying piece of gelati could keep a straight face talking about drug cheats!
Seriously, he had 45 of his horses implanted with a slow release steroid callled trembolone!

Keeping it in the family...

Trainer John Smerdon.

Tony Bourke
November 1, 2007
GEELONG trainer John Smerdon was yesterday disqualified for five months for giving false or misleading evidence to stewards over the late withdrawal of Incinerator at Sandown on June 30.

Stablehand Len Moore was fined $1000 for making a false statement but charges against fellow trainer Kelvin Bourke were not proven.

The Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board also adjourned charges against owner Christine Davis for failing to attend an inquiry when requested to a date to be fixed.

The original inquiry, led by deputy chief steward Terry Sharp, related to the circumstances surrounding the transportation of Incinerator to Sandown on June 30.

The original inquiry was told Racing Victoria Ltd investigator Jim Monahan and a surveillance team tracked Incinerator's trip from Geelong to Sandown.

The stewards withdrew Incinerator, who is trained by Smerdon from Bourke's Drysdale stables, because they believed the horse had received illegal race-day treatment.

Smerdon, who is currently serving a three-month suspension on a separate charge related to Incinerator returning an elevated TCO2 (bicarb) level when he won at Ballarat four days later, pleaded guilty to five counts relating to the incident at Sandown.

His disqualification is effective from today.
