Off the radar πŸ€” So where exactly is he today? If he could be bought, what amount of money would be needed to buy him, being aware he has been treated like rubbish and been thrown out to nowhere land by a "commercial" operation?

Wonder what Liz thinks about all this?

I very much doubt he'd be thrown on the scrap heap.  If he hasn't been sold, then he'd most likely be available to cover mares if you enquire.  30 live foals (1st crop, and assuming they are all paying noms) @ a few thousand a pop would barely cover marketing expenses let alone their keep and insurance etc.

I am more than confident if he's not covering commercially he'd be receiving the very best of care.

I've always wondered why is it soo bad an idea to, when you get in a little crunch early on with a stallion, just drop his price really low to draw in some volume?

When i see stallions who has 25/30 horses in their first or second season, but standing for like $6,600 i honestly don't get it.

Is it an ego thing with the studs?  Either people pay that they want or close to it, or too bad?

Is it stubbornness not wanting to negotiate and be very flexible, in order to generate numbers?

I mean look at SSB, he had bad numbers [his reason was not popularity] but when a couple of his started well, people were falling over themselves to buy his stock, given they weren't in great numbers.

If any stallion with low numbers has a reasonable start, the foals people have [and the standing stud will surely have the most] they can start printing money with.

Yes lower service fee means lower quality mare, but it only takes one or two decent horse in a stallions 1st season for people to lose their gelati, and if his going to be a really good stallion, he will be upgrading poorer mares, and if his a bust, well he was always going to be a bust whether he served 40 or 65 mares.

Went to stud very late in his first year.

Doesn't excuse him in the second year.

I did hear this week (from someone who used him last year) that it was a fertility issue.  If that's the case, I'd have loved them to give him to Rosemont and see how they went with him.

Last start in April 2014, to stud later that year.

For better or worse just didn't attract interest, and on cover numbers alone Darley could be excused for letting him go.  Hopefully another stud will pick up and run with him.

Aquis Stud has Holy Roman Emperor... not a stayer himself but can sire them... ie Mongolian Khan... Hvastaan could stay, Real Saga's can get over ground..

Not a huge amount by any means but there are a couple up that way..

Does anyone know what happened to Carlton House. Not listed as exported in studbook and not dead so did they just retire him?

I'd like to know this too. Last I heard of him was when he was dropped by Darley and then just nothing.

The Queen is still listed as his owner--so hopefully he's in a good place.

In October 2016 I was told by Darley NSW that CH is owned by the Queen, and at Her request he stays in Aus, then Darley keep CH; CH is retired, and doing well.

I think the Queen has given him to Darley, and he is just on the farm as a paddock mate for all the young ones.

Pity.  None of his first crop have been named yet so obviously they don't think they will make 2yo's.  The one out of Virago interests me.  Hope she can run.

Do you mean it took him twice as long to achieve his goal or that he had to serve mares a 2nd time?

How long does it usually take stallions to 'achieve their goal'?

The average is usually 1.5 cycles per conception for a stallion with normal fertility.
