Heinous acts like this :

On becoming Pope, Francis set a new tone by setting up his headquarters in a humble guesthouse for priests rather than the grand apostolic palace — a gesture of humility that carried with it an implied criticism of past excesses. He also did away with the system of automatically giving a cardinal’s hat to bishops in certain posts. Conservatives have been irked by some of his more liberal stances. In 2015, Francis ordered every parish to host two refugee families. And last week, in his most explicit acceptance of homosexuality yet, he told a gay Catholic that God had made him that way and that his sexuality “does not matter.”

Maybe these two guys could end up sharing the same cell, subject of course to due process and the possibility of subsequent findings:  Shocked  Disapprove

Of course you can and of course it's bad. But try reading the full response - it's pretty characteristically loopy. And contrast it to his refusal to comment on certain other scandals that he has been personally involved in. He's very odd, at best.

Way back when there was no scandal attached to HIS name, but other priests were being accused of fiddling with little boys and causing lifelong trauma.........who was a room mate? Who testified he had had no inkling of their activities? Father Pell, of course, long before his promotion! 😳 I was raised a Catholic but it has become obvious to me that it is a den of iniquity and has been the cause of so much suffering over the ages.......
Heartbreaking when u think of all those poor kids, esp the orphanages, Jesus !
All done, like most atrocities, in the name of religion

And Pope Francis would respond to your pain and disgust, "It's a process... we must create space for dialogue,,, nobody is perfect, even me..." blah blah.

Found guilty in December but in order not to influence the second trial verdict was suppressed. However the DPP withdrew the 2nd trial so decision can now be deported.

The Bolter did a spectacular back flip in 2016 on his commentary on Pell. Judges gave it 10s all round.

Bolt never changes his views no matter the avalanche of oppsing evidence. Bit like some posters here but he has a wider audience

On The Bolt Report on Sky News at 7pm: why I think Cardinal George Pell should not have been convicted of sexually abusing two 13-year-old boys in a busy Cathedral in a room with an open door.

And to those who say we should always believe victims: check how many other claims against Pell have been disproved or found flimsy.

I will also have an editorial shortly in the Herald Sun. Frank Brennan is on the same track.

It's amazing the people you find out who think they have a special invisible friend. Van Badham last night on Q&A said she was full on Catholic.

Frank Brennan surprised and devastated by the verdict

Chief executive of Catholic Social Services Australia Frank Brennan says he was was suprised and devastated by the Pell verdict. In a piece for Jesuit publication Eureka Street he writes:

"I was very surprised by the verdict. In fact, I was devastated. My only conclusion is that the jury must have disregarded many of the criticisms so tellingly made by Richter of the complainant's evidence and that, despite the complainant being confused about all manner of things, the jury must nevertheless have thought — as the recent royal commission discussed — that children who are sexually violated do not always remember details of time, place, dress and posture.

"Although the complainant got all sorts of facts wrong, the jury must have believed that Pell did something dreadful to him. The jurors must have judged the complainant to be honest and reliable even though many of the details he gave were improbable if not impossible."

Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne: 'it is important that we now await the outcome of this appeal'

Archbishop of Melbourne Peter Comensoli has issued the following statement on the guilty verdict handed down to Cardinal George Pell:

As is now publicly known, Cardinal George Pell has been found guilty of historical sexual crimes relating to two young people at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne. This follows two trials, the first of which could not reach a verdict.

While acknowledging the judgement of the jury, I join many people who have been surprised and shaken by the outcome of the second trial.

I fully respect the ongoing judicial process, noting that Cardinal Pell continues to protest his innocence. An appeal against the verdict has been lodged. It is important that we now await the outcome of this appeal, respectful of the ongoing legal proceedings.

I guess now that this verdict has finally been announced,  and the March trial abandoned, the suppressed parts of the Royal Commission involving Pell can be released

There is speculation that Pell instructed his defense to allow this guilty finding finally made public today thus lifting that seal. It would depend on whether that also applies to the RC findings. The whole appeal process could take up to 8 months if it plays right out.

what puzzles me is if he is truly guilty and has pled innocent then god would know that and according to his sins he goes to hell. Opens all sorts of questions - does he really believe in God or can he just absolve his sins in church and face the consequences of the earthy trial in heaven
