Well progold conatus's 3yo crop is outperforming hc's and I only paid 3k for him and I don't expect the colt to be commercial.

He goes alright for a budget stallion he's had verballed gag order military secret hot rocks lotus flower I walk the line

I think you'd be hard pressed to find many that have gone as well at 3k

guys as youre talking about cheaper stallions - any thoughts on Bon Hoffa. as ive said before i have a nice filly by him and would like to hear thoughts on his prospects. havent heard much about any other foals but i believe he has had the most mares in oz for second year stallions. this could be due to Bowness putting him to lots of mares or it could come down to his first year crop. any thoughts?

Lucky he's totally different to his shovhog brother a lot shorter in the back and not as heavy set when I look at him next to the lion heart colt I think he is on the smaller side but it's deceptive he's about the same height.

He's a nice enough type though good shoulder and rear end just not what I was expecting going on what the dam has previously produced as she's quite a scopey mare.

Conatus by Danehill:

Analysis by Crop

 07/084429132200
 08/093070000
 Totals203127651350 0

So his 3yo crop has 44 foals, 29 runners and 13 winners.

High Chaparral by Sadlers Wells

Analysis by Crop

 CropFoalsRunnersWinnersWinsSWnrs (GWnrs)SWins (GWins)
 20059479551285 (3)6 (3)

 200816373202100
 20096500000
 Totals69141321243025 (18)48 (35)

His 3yo crop has 64 foals for 36 runners and 16 winners plus ONE stakes winner.  Add in his 5 Gr1 winners from his earlier crops and he's easily going better!  Of course, it's the 5 Gr1 winners that makes him expensive - Gr1 form translates directly to commercial success...

When Conatus gets a Gr2 winner from that 3yo crop, then they'll be on par (at least for one crop)....
The problem with Opportunity is that it wears overalls and looks like work.

Oh and of course I'm not saying he is as good a stallion but when you compare 3k to 99k you wouldn't expect himto be would you.

It looks worse if you just look at Australian figures hc 3yo's

18 runners 7 winners 156k prizemoney rank #125

Did they cut the legs off that crop ?

But Brad, if Conatus' current 3yo crop is his best, how was he going when you decided to send your mare to him?

He has never produced a sw, so one would imagine the chance of making a mare commercial through this stallion is negligible.

He had gag order showing promise put of a Don't say halo mare

Don't forget I'm not expecting anything commercial from this mare, I rescued her from the doggers bid for 400 even though she was only 6 was an efarm winner and hadn't been to stud had been sitting in a paddock for a few years.

I'm basically using her to test breeding theories and therefore not going to splurge on big fees for her.

Interestingly she is the same tail female family as hc, kind of ironic :)

@brad - all of that makes sense to me!  your expectations given the relative prices seems reasonable, plus your aim with the mare is good.  it's fun to have one to 'practice' on :)  all the best!

No comparisonm youre paying $3k service fee if you get half a horse from that its no big deal, but if that happens off the back of a $99k fee then that hurts!

The ironic thing is your Conatus will probably run around against a whole lot of HC's and beat them , thats got to be fairly satisfying.

Breed a racehorse.

Good Luck.

Well my librettist just had his first trial at Toowoomba, don't think there was much in it but there were 9 others and he blew big time after it he was also the youngest in the trial by a fair way.

Oh he won it
