I wouldn't usually start a thread for a horse who just won a 4 horse 2yo race on a heavy 11 track in June where three of them were on debut....

But this gelding looked useful at the trials on a better track and did it easily today in a walk and sprint.

Were he trained by a random trainer you'd simply think "nice horse, worth following in NZ" but he's in the Baker/Forsman stable and they mentioned the Aussie spring as a goal in interviews before the race.

He's also by Jakkalberry out of Lioness, making him a three quarter brother to Lion Tamer and half to the smart Let Me Roar.  Given the breeding, the Derby in November would seem an obvious target.

He has already been gelded. Must have mental issues.

We'll see him in a seven furlong group 2 race, then off to the paddock for a spell.

VRC Derby bound later in the year.

$2.70 fav in the Wanganui Guineas over 1340m tomorrow.  I think he could be vulnerable against some others better suited to that trip whereas his goals are over longer in Aussie.

Apparently entered the country for the Darby.

That is about as much stamina as you want in a pedigree.

Very nice breeding and in the right stable. Dam has had four to race.

Miss Lioness: 1 start 1 win
Lion Tamer: Multiple G1 winner including VRC Derby
Robyn: 1 start 1 win
Let Me Roar: 7 starts 6 wins

By Jakkalberry out of a Generous mare so bred to run 3200m. Jakkalberry is by Storming Home, the sire of Lion Tamer, so Botti is a 3/4 brother to Lion Tamer.

3rd dam is MY BLUE DENIM, who ran 2nd in the 1980 Melb Cup behind BELDALE BALL.

So you’re right Bonfield, definitely 2 mile breeding.

Good spot. I hadn't noticed that. His sire ran 3rd Melbourne Cup.

No luck?

Had a perfect run in the end being lucky enough to have the opening came at the top of the straight which was the difference between winning and losing.

You can see the head on in the stewards vision here(registration required) Lane doesn't appear to stop riding at any stage, just got a slight check about 300m out.

Any chance of still getting to The Derby?

I might be a mug but have been topping up as the odds blow out.

Looks a strong staying 3yo in a weak year imho. Just have to get him there & needs more prizemoney.

Apparently he nearly went down on his nose at the 600 metres at Moe? Did well to stay on his feet.

The whole stable failed to fire this trip. One Sunday provincial win from Botti, and a G1 placing from John Snow from 20 starters.

First start for CJW today at Kensington over 1400m.

Will be interesting to see what path he takes heading towards the autumn staying races - which on pedigree could be the AJC Derby & the Sydney Cup.

But it wouldn’t suprise if he won today.

Notice that he’s back in NZ and running today in the G2 Avondale Guineas over 2100m at Ellerslie. Currently 12/1 fixed odds.

I though his runs this campaign in Sydney were ok. But haven’t followed the NZ 3yo form this summer, so can’t line him up against opposition today.

None of Murray Bakers horses fired in the Spring, and otti wasn't left here with Murray's son...make of that what you will. This bloke has only had 8 starts in one extended prep in two countries with 2 stables. I wont be giving up on him yet.
