Blutigeroo and Blacker (Trot-Shots image)

Blacker's best pal Blutigeroo

Nine years after he captured victory in the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill, Blutigeroo is still putting a smile on the face of Rukshi Blacker.

Blacker worked with the son of Encounter in Colin Little’s stable throughout the gelding’s 46-start career and was offered the opportunity to take him on as her personal riding horse following his racetrack retirement in late-2009.

Since then, the pair have gradually climbed through the Victorian eventing ranks, continuing to build on a partnership that has been forged over more than a decade.

“He came into the stable about a month after I started working for Colin Little and I was lucky enough to take him when he retired,” Blacker said.

“I’ve done everything with him since he came off the track so our partnership goes back about 10 years.

“He’s 14 now but he’s sound and he’s still happy with what he’s doing.”

The pair will tackle the Pre-Novice (EvA105) class at next weekend’s Yerringburg Horse Trials, an event that combines dressage, cross country and show jumping on consecutive days.

While it’s no surprise that the former top stayer’s strength lies in navigating demanding cross country courses, Blacker also said Blutigeroo exhibited impressive movement in the opening dressage phase.

“He’s got pretty incredible lungs so he copes with the fitness side of eventing, particularly the cross country phase, really well,” she said.

“He’s also pretty talented in the dressage and it’s just the show jumping that he can sometimes let himself down.”

Blutigeroo is one of the thousands of retired thoroughbred racehorses excelling in various equestrian disciplines around Victoria.

Through it’s Off the Track program, Racing Victoria provides support to these horses with sponsorship and incentives offered at both elite and amateur competitions.

More information about Racing Victoria’s Off the Track program is available here.

Unfortunately too few are as lucky as he i.e. 20+ TBs presently at Shepp Meats to be 'processed' on Tuesday, all from yesterdays' sale Cry. The dry conditions, onset of winter & dearer feed has them pouring in to both Wed & Friday fortnightly sales. 200+ at each apparently.

Good news story, thanks Gay! ... can't all be that way ... there are plenty of people sleeping on park benches and outside shopfronts with all of their worldly possessions, all over Australia tonight too ...
In reference to every post in the Trump thread ... "There may have been a tiny bit of license taken there" ... Ok, Thanks for the "heads up" PT!

Good old Blutigeroo, so that's what's happened to him  Smile

He always was a looker and had a bit of size about him but you never know how much they can learn and do.

He looks just beautiful doesn't he - they're both lucky  Smile
