I read $700/ambulance from a participant either here or on FB but duration wasn't mentioned. I assumed for coverage of the jumpout session but 700 seems cheap for say....2hrs?
Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!

Can't even hire ski gear for $700.

As pragmatic & emotionless as it sounds, the decision process would likely ask; Are privatised medics capable of treating someone that has been crushed or trampled by 700kg+ of force, or are you paying them to hold hands & pray whilst the real treatment arrives? If so, can we train the people on course to perform that role?

How many ambulances capable of treating that level of trauma do we think there are in the state, let alone regional centres? If the state funded emergency provider was giving preferential treatment to sporting clubs, I would hope that they'd do it for more than $700.

I have no idea what it costs but I know Race meetings have 2 ambulance attendants, a doctor, and an intensive care paramedic on board. I guess the point is, why are they deemed necessary for official trials but not unofficial?

And there's a strong argument for all trials needing Ambulances in attendance even more than Race meetings do as you don't know what youvé got a lot of the time when testing a horse.

Whereas there are some assurances in place once a horse gets to a racetrack.

Anyway l'm just  a racing fan making some observations just hope the right people make some moves to get this right along with the safety gear.

Similar argument for any time you ask one to go faster than a canter?

That's an awful lot of paramedics.

No paramedics on "fast work" mornings ? The cost would be high, to cover all tracks, and then there are private training tracks.

In Vic they don't have paramedics on race day, it's Wilson Medic One Patient Transport who will call for an ambulance if required

They actually have a MICA paramedic on board. They call for an ambulance if transport is required, as they need to stay on course.

The difference with trials is there's a group of horses, so more risk of falling and being trampled, such as in this case.

Donnas internal injuries were so severe that no immediate ambulance attention would have saved her, sadly. I agree that for jump outs ambulances should be present. They are organised planned "trials", with other runners around you. Different to simple trackwork. We must learn from this. But to repeat, Donna died within 15 minutes of the fall with internal injuries so severe that nothing could have been done. Those present did everything they could do.

Unfortunately this accident showed two areas of deficiency, the Ambulance attendance now the timeline is becoming apparent and the safety gear which has come a long way but still needs more work, and not only for the protection of those in the racing industry.

What a sentimental result this would be for the Bendigo racing community. Jessie Philpot will ride her late mum Donna's horse She's Beneficial in a race named in her honour at Bendigo Jockey Club on Friday.

Thumbs Up  Would be a great result indeed. Hope Jessie copes okay. You'd expect the horse will be primed, as will Bendigo racegoers. Divine intervention would see her storm down the outside to win running away.

She finished 4th.
Spoke really well in her pre race interview.
Has recently transferred to Mick Sell who is about to relocate from Kyneton to Bendigo. Will takeover Gus Philpotts stable as he is no longer training

Change from outside barrier to inside she would have won. Jess rode her well after she drew the car park. Her best run yet in times. Donnas whole family was there to share in the day.
