No Stewards Report for this meeting available yet.

Very keen to see the report on R8 where TRYNCATCHME was disqualified for not leaving the sprint lane. What a joke decision. It happens all the time & I imagine there will be plenty more protests coming in future after this precedent.

It won't affect me though because I have officially retired from harness punting.

Stewards Report for Melton on 24th is available. Odd.

Actually worded that wrongly.

Horse ducked down to the sprint lane after coming in to the straight 3 wide. Didn't interfere with any other. Lost the race.

Terrible decision.

Finally here it is:

"The all clear for this race was delayed when driver of the 2nd place runner Josh Duggan (Tenno Dance) requested to view the replays of the concluding stages in relation to the winner Tryncatchme shifting into the sprint lane over the concluding stages. After viewing the replays Mr Duggan declined lodging a protest. Stewards then gave consideration to the application of Rule167 which states:

 (1)  From the time the sprint lane becomes available for racing purposes, the leading horse closest to the inside running line and any horse in advance of and outside that horse or having passed that horse on its outside shall not enter any part of the sprint lane.

(2)  In the event of the leading horse or its sulky entering any part of the sprint lane after the sprint lane becomes available for racing purposes the driver shall immediately take all necessary action to remove the horse and sulky from the sprint lane.

(3)  The driver of a horse in contravention of sub-rule (1) and (2) is guilty of an offence and the horse may be disqualified or given a lower placing.

Upon considering the evidence, the panel were satisfied that driver David Murphy (Tryncatchme) had failed to take all necessary action to remove the horse and sulky from the sprint lane. Stewards were further satisfied that by not taking the appropriate course of action, Tryncatchme had gained an advantage greater than the nose margin between the two runners at the finish of the race. Acting in accordance with the provisions of rule 167(3) Tryncatchme was placed 2nd behind Tenno Dance.  All clear was then given on the amended placings of Tenno Dance (1st), Tryncatchme (2nd), Just Call Me Earl NZ (3rd) and Jeter (4th). Mr Murphy was subsequently fined $100 for breaching rule167(2). In adopting this course of action stewards were mindful of the racing manners of Tryncatchme. Considering that Tryncatchme had been placed on its last chance to race truly at its most recent start for hanging in under pressure, the gelding was also stood down from racing until the completion of a satisfactory trial."

By shifting in TRYNCATCHME cost itself ground. At least a head to a neck. Yet you claim it gained an advantage greater than a nose by shifting in. Shifting in/shifting out, costs margins. What are you on? If it stays on course it wins easily. No brainer.

Fine the driver. Don't kick the punter. Another no brainer. Too late now for me. I'm out. Yet another punter lost to the harness industry. Oh well, plenty of other things to bet on.
