It appears Barack Obama was not all he was cracked up to be if David Cameron, the former PM of Britain, is to be believed over a telephone call he made to Obama in 2013 when the Syrian regime attacked residential areas near Barack
Obama took four days to respond to David Cameron’s request for a co-ordinated
plan after a 2013 chemical weapons attack by the Syrian regime on residential
areas near The former Mr Cameron,
who is promoting his new book after three years out of the limelight, said he
and Mr Obama had agreed that the use of chemical weapons by Syrian President
Bashar Al Assad would be a “red line”. The option
of a military response to the attacks on Ghouta, which possibly killed more
than 1,000 people, was put to the British Parliament by Mr Cameron but rejected
by MPs. Mr Obama’s
Secretary of State at the time, John Kerry, has since blamed the “A more
automatic response would have been better," Mr Cameron told ITV. "We
then agreed a plan.” He
said he was spurred to act after seeing images of dead children, which reminded
him of his son Ivan who passed away at the age of six in 2009. “I watched
it on the television and the sight of the children laid out in rows, it made me
think of Ivan and everything that had happened to me," Mr Cameron said. "And I
thought it was just so appalling. I felt we’ve got to act. “President
Obama and I had discussed the red line, I think at the G8 in But Mr
Cameron said he overestimated how supportive Parliament would be after calling
the vote for military action. He said he
thought MPs would share his “abhorrence” at what had happened. “I lost
that vote, the first time a prime minister had lost a vote in the House of
Commons on a major issue of foreign policy," Mr Cameron said. "I
blame the people who voted against me, obviously, but I also blame myself. I
misread the situation but I think we should have acted. "I’m
not saying it would have solved the Syrian crisis but it was a red line
crossed. It was an appalling thing to happen. "I
made a passionate argument in Parliament but I lost that. I lost that vote.” |

PT, can you make sense of Cameron's whinge? He seems to be blaming Obama in some way for his own failure to get the support of his party.

Leaving aside the hypocrisy of the Trumpers here who applaud Trump wanting to get out of stupid wars, but pot Obama for not wanting to get involved in one, David Cameron(Syria Brexit) may well be the worst British PM in modern history. Like Tony Blair(Iraq) he is trying to rewrite history I think. Here is John Kerry's take on it. As it turned out I think Obama recruiting and arming the Syrian Kurds(called Offshore Balancing) was the correct action, something even Republicans now accept. What has happened this week under the Deranged Orange traitor is another story. John Kerry blames David Cameron for Syria failureOutgoing secretary of state says UK derailed plans to bomb Assad regime. The U.K. is to blame for U.S. President Barack Obama’s failure to follow through on a promise to bomb the Syrian regime if it used chemical weapons, outgoing Secretary of State John Kerry said at a press conference late Thursday, according to a Guardian report. Obama had said chemical weapons were a "red line" for America, but failed to act when Syria's President Bashar al-Assad used sarin gas on civilians in August 2013. According to Kerry, Obama was ready to respond to the "blatant violation of international law," but the then British prime minister, David Cameron, derailed his plans by putting a motion for U.S.-led air strikes to a vote in parliament, applying pressure on Obama to get congressional permission to act. “Now, we were marching towards that time when, lo and behold … Prime Minister David Cameron went to the parliament … and he sought a vote for approval for him to join in the action that we were going to engage in. And guess what, the parliament voted no, they shot him down," Kerry said. "So as we were briefing Congress — and I was on one of those briefing calls with maybe a hundred members of Congress on the call — many of them were saying, ‘Well, you’ve got to come to us. You’ve got to go through the constitutional process, get permission from us to do something." The administration, Kerry said, thought Congress would be quick to approve the air strikes, given the "blatant violation." However, as the vote was being organized, Kerry said, Russia and the U.S. were able to broker a deal for the Assad regime to get rid of its chemical weapons. “All of a sudden [Russia's Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei] Lavrov and I were thrown together by our presidents,” Kerry said, “in an effort to try and achieve that and guess what, we did achieve it, before Congress voted." That was misinterpreted as a sign of weakness, Kerry said, stressing: "The president never said, 'I won't drop a bomb.'" Kerry's statements come a week after British Prime Minister Theresa May's spokesperson criticized his position on Israel. In late December, the U.S. chose to abstain instead of vetoing a U.N. Security Council motion condemning Israel's settlements on territory claimed by Palestinians. Using language rarely heard from a U.S. secretary of state, Kerry warned that the settlers’ growing political power would eventually force Israel to make a fateful choice: “Israel can either be Jewish or democratic — it cannot be both — and it won’t ever really be at peace.” May's spokesperson said: “We do not believe that it is appropriate to attack the composition of the democratically elected government of an ally." http://www.politico.eu/article/john-kerry-blames-david-cameron-for-syria-failure/ |

PT with your "extensive knowledge" of US politics you might bother to listen to this woman's lecture in Florida early in 2018. She certainly lays into the Obama administration. It is a long speech , I gave up half way through. but I got the gist of it...Obama, in her opinion, was a ordinary president.
