I wasn't being dismissive but up to you if you want to interpret it that way. |

Interesting that Brew won the champion stayer award for the 2000/01 season. A G1, G2 and Listed successes

Must have been a terrible season for stayers. He was not even the best stayer on Melbourne Cup day.

First question...what do you mean he wasn't the best stayer on Melbourne Cup day?? He won the Cup and was the best horse on the day in that race.
In terms of other stayers during the 2000-01 season...Diatribe won the Caulfield Cup and Curata Storm won The BMW (Tancred Stakes). Please refrain from quoting posts directly above. This applies to all who constantly feel the need ![]() Edited by Gay3 - 26 Jun 2019 at 11:13am |

Jamal, why do you always feel the need to quote the last post when you are replying to it? Just creates unnecessary clutter, people will understand thats the post your responding to when your post is the next in line.

Worst post-Vintage Crop Cup field? Probably. Certainly the worst placegetters.

Does that devalue or deride Brew as a Melbourne Cup winner in your opinion? |

![]() ![]() Wonder what science or math was used to come to this conclusion ? Benchmark weight for NH 3yos in Melbourne Cup moves to 56.5kg (from 55.5kg) and in Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate moves to 56.5kg (from 56kg)

Ridiculous to change it.. they’re lightly raced... like any horse they were carrying light weights due to this.. Australian protectionism strikes again. Instead of incentivising local trainers they Handicap visitors

Didn't the same happen to Choiser when he went over there as a 3yo, not so sure about Merchant Navy but maybe it did also. |

Thanks Morston, but everyone knows that and still don't understand what what was meant above.
The place-getters in the 3yo Merchant Navy's win were 4yo's. Needless to say both were close to 6 months older than the winner, however all three carried 58.5kgs which doesn't make much sense to me.

Merchant Navy as a southern hemisphere 3yo in June is the same as a northern hemisphere 3yo in November. In Octobers Ascot British Champions Sprint the 3yo colts get just 1 lb from their elders. If it was run in November they would be carrying level weights. 4yos in the North do not get a Weight allowance like they do down here. |

Everyone keeps saying the fairly obvious, but haven't thus far explained just why there's no allowance for the 6 months younger horse in the Golden Jubilee which is run in June. I certainly wouldn't be in a hurry to run a southern hemisphere 3yo in GB under that current weight condition.

Or to put it rather better, you've explained what the current situation is but haven't addressed the rationale behind a weighting situation which to me at least appears clearly inequitable.

You know a 3yo born to SH time and goes to NH to race they are 4yo there , so why can't you understand that he's getting the same as the other 4yos weightwise? same as when Adelaide came here for the Cox Plate as a NH 3yo but had to carry 56kg as against a 3yo weight of 49-5kg, yet the same horse carried 58kg in a Group 2 in France as a 3yo. |

As a three and a half year old Adelaide still received 1 kg from southern hemisphere 4yo's. |

Have a look at the WFA scale for 3yo as the distance increases through the months and you will find your answer, they have made a change again but it's very close to NH 4yo time , it makes sense to me but maybe not to some , protectionism= rubbish , we cop it, they cop it, 1 all.
