I was always brought up to not talk ill of the dead, and I will not talk ill of Bob, but this bitch has got me going.

That first line, many would say the greatest post-war Australian, is one of the most disgusting, self-deluded, and bulls#@t statements, I have ever read in my life.

The guy was born with a lightning bolt up the clacker, he had that much good luck. Best treasurer Australia has had, probably one of the best political operators within a government in Richo, and two opposition leaders (Peacock and Howard), who were so unpopular, I reckon Ivan Milat could have become Prime Minister during this time.

I knew when he died they would bring up the 'fact', that he defeated apartheid. Again a sign of his golden balls luck, as he just happened to be the union leader at the time. Apartheid had been happening for most of the century and yet because he got pressure from his labor mates and the general population, he made a decision he should have made as soon as he became leader of the unions, he is a saint.

I am not blaming Bob, for this statement, but the classless, self promoting writer, who he was with the last few decades of his life.

He was at the helm for some historic decisions, but to say he was the best Australian since the second world war, is like saying the US won the second world war, when they were not even involved before 1941, and the allies and Russia had taken huge losses, before they even saw any action in Europe!

At least we have not had to see Bob traipse around the election like a certain former Prime Minister, old bushy eyebrows himself! You know your policies and message are not getting through when you throw a 79 year old former leader out there to try and muster up votes.

Exactly why do you find it a disgusting statement ? Many do think he is the greatest PM ever and there is a good case to be made as there probably is for a few other PM's.

Just a dumb, vicious comment IMO

Good point Red hare, and quite a number have scored the points. A popular choice it seems.

Sorry Red, maybe I should create a new thread to talk about this, but to come out and say that someone you love and who you are close to is the best Australian or best Indian, or best Englishman, or best German since the second world war (like how I slipped the Germans in there), is so not the way to do things.

I will leave it there and if a thread pops up I will write in that, leave this one for what it was meant for, you are right VSP, seems to have been a popular selection.

Since I lived in OZ during those years he was at the helm memories are quite vivid.

He did the comedian writers plenty of rope to swing on.

Then again he gave the unionists a splendid platform to do their so called work to rule the country.

eheheheh mheheheh hehe Where's Paul when you need him?

Also must add that even though his political affiliation was half-past left during his rise to lead the country, the way he ended up was very much a quite rich capitalist with aristocratic support.

Thanks for coming Mate!

I think many were disappointed the way poor old Hazel got treated. The fact that their kids seemed to support her more so than him said a fair bit to me. Even so, I think he put in a pretty fair effort in helping to shape this country & deserves a pat on the back for his contribution.

What he did to Hazel was just beyond bad.
