The Autumn Sun oozes quality and has drawn perfectly but Sydney horses having their first start at Caulfield and anti-clockwise ... maybe its just one of those lingering racing adages. More important than adages is likely to be the pace of the race.

Oohood has been here before and run a great race in the Diamond. She finally got the Group 1 see richly deserved against the fillies at Randwick and has been put up against the colts again in a race that hasn't seen a filly win since Surround 42 years ago.  That didn't stop punters sending Catchy out favorite last year (3rd).  Oohood has drawn alongside The Autumn Sun, both will get back.

Darren Weir's pair Native Soldier and Leonardo Da Hinchi have been models of consistency in Melbourne and the best of the locally prepared colts.  Native Soldier (4) will come forward, Leonardo (10) will look for cover midfield.

They say locally trained Tavisan will look for cover but from gate 9 and in this field it seems more logical to go forward with Native Soldier although I reckon Muswellbrook (gate 1 Blinkers on) could be the pace in the race.

Blinkers also go on Good 'n'Fast and the locally trained Vassiilator for the first time.

$1.90 THE AUTUMN SUN
$7.00 NATIVE SOLDIER
$8.50 LEONARDO DA HINCHI
$10.00 OOHOOD
$13.00 TAVISAN
$21.00 GEM SONG
$21.00 GOOD N FAST
$26.00 THE AUGUST
$34.00 MUSWELLBROOK
$34.00 OUTRAGEOUS
OTHERS $41.00+

I don't like odds on about Sydney horses having their first start at Caulfield.  I am old enough to remember Kingston Town.

I hate him at Caulfield, but I know there is a good race in Vassillator somewhere, most likely Flemington.

Last start Native Soldier showed the ability to jump quickly, find the rail, switch off and stack them up. If he does the same here the fave could find himself in a spot of bother coming to the turn, but someone usually loses their head in a race like this and the pressure starts early.

Hard to see TAS beaten, though I think LDH is a nice horse in the making, and should be up in the firing line, which will help. As for the rest...I think this race has gone downhill a bit in recent years. Shame, used to be one of my faves.
