Yeah he does look a tad on the small side. Like Red Rancher I'm all over Albert - watching the video above makes me even more bullish...I got him going to win around 10K at present but might put a few more $$ on today. Red Cardinal and the Hayes horse Ventura Storm are the other 2 I have backed at about 20/1

Even after his 0.5kg penalty for winning the Naturalism Stks, he's still only 59th in the order of entry for the Melb Cup at the moment. There wail be plenty drop out at 1st acceptances next month but I think he's going to need to win something on the way through to make the field. I'm sure David Hayes is hoping that win will be the Caulfield Cup, but if he doesn't win that, they may need to backup in the MV Cup, Bendigo Cup or Hotham Hcp to force his way into the Melb Cup field.

Pretty sure winning The Naturalism ensures you a spot in the race ?

Just saw confirmation Albert is not coming. Will now have to back something else at decent odds Nakeeta?

More internationals descend on Melbourne for Spring Racing Carnival

RV_Author Racing Victoria Staff@RacingInsider     30 September, 2017
, (
Eighteen international horses, including four from Godolphin UK’s powerful stable and two trained by Irish master Aidan O’Brien, have touched down on Australian soil this morning ahead of their assault on the Spring Racing Carnival.

Returning heroes Francis of Assisi and Qewy arrived with their Godolphin stablemates Folkswood and Kidmenever in the early hours of the morning, whilst a further 14 landed at Melbourne Airport just before 11am.

That number included Red Cardinal, trained by Emirates Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Andreas Wohler; Kaspersky, the horse ridden by Michelle Payne at Royal Ascot; Marmelo, winner of the Group 2 Prix Kergorlay in France; the Willie Mullins-trained Max Dynamite, who finished runner-up behind Payne’s mount Prince of Penzance in the 2015 Melbourne Cup; the Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock-owned Tiberian, a winner of four of his last five starts; and the O’Brien duo of Taj Mahal and Johannes Vermeer.

Four of the horses joined Admire Deus in the Vintage Crop Stables at the Werribee International Horse Centre, and the remaining 14 were sent to the adjacent Newminster Stables to complete their mandatory quarantine period, which ends on Saturday, 14 October.

Five more thoroughbreds - O’Brien’s US Army Ranger; the Mullins pair of Max Dynamite and Thomas Hobson; Rekindling, owned by Lloyd Williams and trained by O’Brien’s son Joseph; and Ebor Handicap winner Nakeeta, trained by Scotsman Iain Jardine – entered quarantine in the UK and Ireland the early hours of Friday morning, and are scheduled to arrive in Melbourne on 14 October.

After completing their two-week quarantine, that quintet will be aimed at the Melbourne Cup (3200m) on Tuesday, 7 November.

The full list of international horses which arrived in Melbourne on Saturday morning is as follows:

This is a very interesting group of horses and trainers, so with the kiwi's and what we can rustle up this can be a top shelf carnival, one thing missing though, a good o/s sprinter.

I have said it before on this topic the Cup that by backing Horses (Stallions) you would have won the last 5 of the 7 cups so odds are with the boys with there nads, narrows the field significantly.

Not enthused by almandin in Bart Cummings. Going to throw my $ at Red Cardinal. Looks the goods and hipe it gets a good lift in the Herbert Power. In the footsteps of Protectionist this fella.

Too small a sample to be of significance. If you look at all the cups since 2000, it shows mares did best by S/R and POT, but again, too small a sample. Makybe Diva responsible for most of that.

I have specked 2 Stallions each way INFERENCE (17) & HARPERS CHOICE (28)which one is already in the field basically and the other should make it. Will probably just have one more bet on one more higher up but Technically you wouldn't use the number as 30 as those listed down in the lower order of entry wont even make the field but if you look above in those noted at least roughly 1/3 will be Stallions (8 of 24), happy to have any side bets with punters as cashed up due to my horse THREEPENNYOPERA saluting at Newcastle last night another Stallion will win the 2017 running of the cup.
Couldn't be any more confident!!!!

Okay so there is 29 stallion prospects left from the acceptors.

You can get rid of Anaheim, Prince Cheri, Raw Impulse and Singing as they are useless at this level (maybe Anaheim could get to a Lavazza, maybe). That gives us 25.

Inference is a top four hope at best so his not a winning chance. 24.

Harpers Choice has disappointed, but he has not been at his best distances, however he needs to show something quick, but a non winning hope for mine. 23.

Grey Lion, Gallic Chieftain, Stampede, Amrallah, Boom Time and Sarrasin are all at least two classes below this level (maybe they could win a Queen Elizabeth, if they were lucky), so they get shifted. 17.

If Comin Through ever runs 3200m good enough to run top four in a Melbourne Cup, I will switch allegiances to Islam and join ISIS. 16.

Of those who are left I do not know much about the overseas runners, and Lord Fandango, the German with Archie Alexander, so I will leave that up to others, but I think Ventura Storm and Jon Snow are the two who look likely at this point in time.

Kellstorm raced well in the Bart Cummings, and Harlem will be better suited to Caulfield.

See link below, Ryan Moore booked to ride Red Cardinal in the Melbourne Cup, also it seems Red Cardinal wont be running in the Herbert Power and will run First-up In the Cup:

I see Francis Of Assisi has arrived .     Rattled of a couple of smart wins when here last year. Sensational sectionals .    I can add him to my other 40 chances.
Warmed to Amelie's Star & Ventura Storm ( 3 wins 1 second ) from 4 2200 and beyond . Chased Winx , On Saturday .
The weights will sort them out.

Only 30 more sleeps before we collect.

I have 3 live chances still - Big Duke, Ventura Storm & Red Cardinal. got them all at good odds, but have already done my money on Order of St George & Albert - thats the risk backing them early I guess...!! Still happy with those 3 horses - in particular Ventura Storm looked good on the weekend

Ive had a little something on Red Cardinal....backed him in May.

Only concern is - the plan was to run Red Cardinal in the Herbert Power Stakes, but I jsve read he may not run in that race and will run in the Cup first up. Is this going to be a problem? The only horse to win the Cuo first up was Vintage Crop in 1993, so it seems to be a hard task.....but I remember Heartbreak City beaten by 0.2 lengths in last year's Cup.

It is a bit of a task winning the Melbourne Cup no matter which way you go.
