Talented Japanese stayer Admire Deus remains on a path to the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups but will now fly the Australian flag.
The multiple Group Two winner is second favourite ($15) for the Melbourne Cup, where he may go head-to-head with former stablemate Albert – the horse central to his sale. Australian Bloodstock pulled off the purchase this week in Japan after convincing Riichi Kondo, owner of 2014 Caulfield Cup winner Admire Ratki, to part with one of his premium stayers. Their first offer was turned down before Kondo’s organisation elected not to take two stayers to Australia and picked Albert over Admire Deus as their sole competitor. “At that point, they came back to us and said if you’re still interested, they would sell this horse and it evolved from there,” Australian Bloodstock director Jamie Lovett told Sky Sports Radio. It sets the scene for a clash between the former stablemates, with Australian Bloodstock and new trainer Darren Weir buoyant about a run towards the spring’s two big staying handicaps on October 21 and November 7. The Australian-bound seven-year-old had the better of his stablemate in the lightning-quick Group One Tenno Sho in April, finishing fourth. William Hill Japan’s stand-out stayer, Kitasan Black, won the two-mile race in 3 min 12.5 secs – almost four seconds faster than the Melbourne Cup record set in 1990. “They do run on quite fast tracks and the tempo is set up to run those fast times but they’ve still got to do it,” Lovett said. “Clearly, Admire Deus runs the two miles and he does profile as the right horse (for the Melbourne Cup) but as we all know there is a lot to do to get a horse here and to race travelling horses.” If something were to go wrong, Lovett says Admire Deus will be saved for next year. “But certainly, at this stage, all roads will lead to Melbourne,” he said. Australian Bloodstock also owns Melbourne Cup favourite Red Cardinal who is with Andreas Wohler who trained Protectionist for them to win the 2014 Cup. Weir has sent staff to Japan to begin preparations for the spring carnival campaign. Admire Deus is expected to arrive in Melbourne in late September or early October. |

They have a very good process with buying overseas stock. Something seems to go awry with applying that process to purchasing yearlings though.

^ Yearings are a lottery. Tried horses have been exposed and they find the ones that can improve over time. Plenty of work involved including stride analysis, handicap ratings, age, distances they've won/raced over etc etc, then they can ustilise the processes used with yearlings and eliminate the ones that fail vet tests.

Current Melb Cup favourite, RED CARDINAL, goes around at 1.10 am AEST in the Kergolay over 3000m.
Apparently if he wins, he'll be down here for the Herbert Power Hcp and then the Melb Cup. |

I saw Red Cardinal's run, looked a bit dour and raced like a 3200m horse.
The other thing to keep in mind is had he won thst race then his rating may have gone up which could of meant more weight for the Melbourne Cup. I suspect he will be running without winning in whatever he races in leading in to the Cup. |

Crownbet sign up offer CUP PROGRAM STILL ON FOR RED CARDINAL August 21, 2017 5:21 pm.AAP Red Cardinal racehorse 2017 Melbourne Cup favourite Red Cardinal (in front). Red Cardinal has been displaced as the Melbourne Cup favourite following his fifth in the Prix Kergorlay at Deauville but his owners remain upbeat. Trained in Germany by Andreas Wohler for Australian Bloodstock, the combination successful with Protectionist in the 2014 Cup, Red Cardinal will still head to Australia. He is now on the second line of TAB betting at $21 with Godolphin’s Hartnell and Japanese horse Admire Deus, a recent acquisition for Australian Bloodstock, at $15. Australian Bloodstock’s Jamie Lovett said the shifty track at Deauville on Sunday (Monday AEST) was a factor in Red Cardinal’s performance and the plan was to contest the Group Two Herbert Power Stakes won by Protectionist on his way to the Cup. “On face value, it probably looked a bit disappointing,” Lovett told Melbourne’s RSN 927. “But Andreas wasn’t overly concerned. They were a bit concerned before the race. The track was very shifty and chopped out a little bit. “He was always going to get back and there was no speed, typical of those races in France. They jog to the corner and sprint home. William Hill “But I would have liked to have seen him pick up a bit better, but as I say, Andreas wasn’t overly concerned, so I’ll take reassurance from that.” Lovett said he and others involved in the horse would head to Japan this week to see Admire Deus who is at $15 for the Caulfield Cup with Hartnell the TAB’s $9 favourite. “We think a bit of him, given he’s got that profile through those staying races in Japan,” Lovett said. Lovett’s company also races the Darren Weir-trained Group-winning stayer Big Duke, a $21 chance in the Melbourne Cup. He resumed with a midfield finish over 1600 metres at Caulfield on Saturday, beaten less than two lengths. “We were thrilled with him. Darren’s been really happy with him leading into his first-up run,” Lovett said. “In a pretty decent race, to finish just on their heels, he’s in for a very good prep.” Previous in category Next post in category Upcoming Races Vaal Race 312m Deauville Race 427m Vaal Race 447m Deauville Race 557m Brighton Race 11h 07m Kempton Park Race 11h 22m Race Schedule Horses United Kingdom France South Africa Australian bookmakers Crownbet Deposit $40, Get $140 bonus Bet Sportsbet 100% up to $501 Bet William Hill 100% up to $502 Bet Bet365 100% up to $200 Bet Luxbet Deposit $50, get $150 Bet Latest racing news & tips Lee Freedman confirmed for Singapore yard Chautauqua, She Will Reign in same trial Natural progression for Addictive Nature Winning Chau connection continues for Willy White Socks Valley gallop for Hey Doc ahead of Memsie Punting guides Australian thoroughbred racing tracks Bookmaker bonus bets Famous names in Australian horse racing Five of the best country racing events in Australia Freebets for Australians Bet types with an on-course bookmaker Exotic bets on horse racing New Zealand thoroughbred racing tracks Online bookmaker deposit options Online bookmaker withdrawals The top five horses that couldn’t live up to expectations Top 10 Australian jockeys What are the most popular types of racing bets? Nominations are really quite disappointing.
I was hoping there'd be one or two that knock Order Of St George from the honour of top weight. |

Good for you, hopefully exciting times ahead. The bookies have it well up in their early markets, so hopefully that assessment is proved justified. We will follow with interest. |

Only the best for top Melbourne Cup hope before Melbourne raidBrad Waters - 30 Aug 2017 If training conditions mean anything, Melbourne Cup fancy Admire Deus has a distinct advantage over his local rivals before he makes the trip to Australia. Syndicator Australian Bloodstock completed a deal to buy Admire Deus for the 2017 Melbourne Cup from Japanese owner Riichi Kondo, the owner of Caulfield Cup winner Admire Rakti, after his fourth in the Group I Tenno Sho Spring (3200m) in April. Admire Deus's effort against the best stayers in Japan has him at $21 in Sportsbet's latest Melbourne Cup market while Albert, who finished fifth in the same race is a $26 chance. Australian Bloodstock co-founder Luke Murrell said the operation was able to send Admire Deus to one of the world's great thoroughbred properties, Katsumi Yoshida's Northern Farm to prepare for his Melbourne raid. Admire Reus has been able to train in perfect conditions irrespective of the weather with Northern Farm hosting both indoor and outdoor uphill gallops to get the seven-year-old fit to travel. "They have been great to deal with. They have let him stay at Mr Yoshida's farm and have the advice of Mr Yoshida's foremen, which has been terrific," Murrell said. "Mr Yoshida is in Tosen Stardom with us and he bought a couple of German Oaks winners off us and we have a good relationship with him." Murrell said Admire Deus's new trainer Darren Weir has started the process of working out the entire after sending a senior member of his staff to Japan to work with the stayer before he goes into quarantine. "Weiry sent one of his foreman over and we are just trying to learn as much as we can, just about the horse's idiosyncrasies and little habits that might give us an edge," Murrell said. "We're trying to learn everything and not leave anything to chance." Murrell said Admire Deus's Melbourne Cup lead-in was not set with Weir to consider the seven-year-old's competitive nature before deciding on his Australian debut outing. "He'll go into quarantine and be here on the first shipment (in late September)," Murrell said. "There are two possible paths. One would be a Caulfield and a Melbourne Cup. "The mail on the horse is that he just absolutely gives his all every time he runs so if Darren didn't want to have a complete gut buster with him first-up, Darren could go to a Caulfield Stakes or something shorter and use that as a pipe opener for the Melbourne Cup." |
